[Bug 153188] Re: X starts with black screen / blue screen (i965G)

2008-08-20 Thread John at Canterbury
I am running standard Hardy 8.04 on a Intel GM965 chipset (X3100
intergrated graphics). On first boot, after usplash, with TV (SVideo)
and VGA connected, both displays are black. Doing a CTRL+F1 then
CTRL+F7 brings the X display onto the VGA, but nothing on TV. If I
suspend the system to S3 then wake it up I get a display on the TV and
nothing on VGA until I do a CTRL+F1 then CTRL+F7 which makes both the TV
and VGA work perfectly.

If I disable usplash on boot, as suggested by Amit above, then I still
get a black screen after first boot. However, doing a CTRL+F1 then
CTRL+F7 brings an X display on both the TV and VGA (no need to suspend
then wake up to get the TV working).

My usual configuration is just a TV connected via SVideo. The TV
results with just a TV connected and no VGA are the same as above.

[Bug 6270] Re: no support for TV-Out

I meant version 2.3.x for the driver version, not 2.2.0... I think. How
do I tell what version I am running?!

[Bug 6270] Re: no support for TV-Out

2008-06-08 Thread John at Canterbury
I also tried to install the latest version of the intel driver (2.2.0)
from http://intellinuxgraphics.org/install.html

I got all the packages installed and ran the commands without error but
I didn't know what flags to add for ubuntu 8.04 (like --prefix=, --exec-
prefix=, --libdir=, --sysconfdir= etc). Anyway, without any flags
added, I rebooted and got the same black screen.

How do I know what version of the intel graphics driver is loaded? Is
there a command I can run which will return it?

Also, what flags should I have added when compiling and installing the
intel 2.2.0 driver?

Thanks,
John

[Bug 6270] Re: no support for TV-Out

2008-06-08 Thread John at Canterbury
Hi Bryce,

I tried your guide but I get the following errors. Note I am logged into
the system under test using VNC as the only monitor connected is the TV
via S-Video which is a constant black screen. Also, I have replaced
S-Video with TV in the commands you listed as the intel driver uses this
identifier.

In the setting up S-Video section I did the following:
Command: xrandr --output TV --set load_detection 1
Result:
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 156 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 11 ()
Serial number of failed request: 17

I also tried option B putting the command into the xorg.conf file and
restarting but first boot gave a black screen again.

Option C does nothing:
xrandr --addmode TV 800x600
The command appears to run successfully (there are no errors to the terminal)
but the TV screen remains black.

[Bug 6270] Re: no support for TV-Out

2008-04-15 Thread John at Canterbury
If I suspend the system to S3 then wake it up both the TV and VGA ouputs
work flawlessly. On a reboot, I get the same problems (either one or
other of the displays no longer outputs despite xrandr saying both are
connected and outputting).

All these behaviours are repeatable on 32bit and 64bit Ubuntus.

My system is also displaying this fault. 50% of the time I can clear it
by doing ctrl+alt+F1 followed by ctrl+alt+F7.

[Bug 6270] Re: no support for TV-Out

2008-04-12 Thread John at Canterbury
I've been able to spend a good couple of hours using XRANDR with the
Intel GM965 chipset system I have got. Their are multiple fail types. I
have tried to compile the complete list here:

xrandr -v: version is 1.2

I will post xorg.conf and the outputs from xrandr -q

John

[Bug 6270] Re: no support for TV-Out

2008-04-04 Thread John at Canterbury
I have only been able to try Alpha 6. I cannot get a display on the
attached TV via S-Video. Chipset is Intel GM965 (X3100 gfx). The
commands I run are the same as listed in the duplicate bug report (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/179797 ) and I get the same results. I live in the UK so the
TV signal requirement is PAL. Trying to set the output mode to PAL
causes an error so maybe its this?

Just to clarify, my system is a GM965 (mobile chipset) not 965 as I
stated previously. The graphics core is X3100. I am in the UK and so
would need a PAL output.

My Intel 965 chipset system shows the same errors except I have been
unable to get a display on the TV at all, even on a reboot. I am
running 64bit Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 6. Outputs from all the commands you
have listed are the same for me.
