[Bug 1217436] Re: Brightness keys are not recognized on Toshiba Satellite U840W

2013-08-28 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Thanks for your reply.

With v3.11-rc7-saucy, the keys still don't work but the brightness down
key makes the power statistics dialog come up and the brightness up
key makes the computer to go to sleep (both keys don't do anything with
the raring kernel).

[Bug 1217436] Re: Brightness keys are not recognized on Toshiba Satellite U840W

2013-08-28 Thread Jonathan Ernst
As more keys are registered with the latest upstream kernel, here is a
reference of wrongly mapped fn keys :

What I see on the keyboard - What the system sees

Brightness down - Battery
Brightness up - Sleep
External/Internal screen - Suspend
Trackpad on/off - External/Internal screen
Volume - - Volume +
Volume + - Volume -
Mute - 0xF8 ?
Wifi toggle - 0XF8 ?

The rest is ok.

Also note that the Fn behaviour is inverted (i.e. on this keyboard your
are supposed to use the Fn key to access f1...f12 and not use the fn key
to use special functions)

[Bug 1070150] Re: Intermittent black screen or low graphics mode message

2013-02-24 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Same problem on two systems (one with Intel and one with radeon) both
with SSD.

The problem seems to be a race condition where the system boots so fast
that the graphical stack is not ready for lightdm to work.

[Bug 1054136] Re: Quantal Beta 1 fresh install : No lightdm graphical login

2012-11-04 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Same here on a thinkpad T400S.

I've tried upgrading the kernel to 3.6.3 and the graphical drivers with
xorg-edgers version to no avail.

Until this bug is fixed I added 'respawn' to the lightdm upstart script
so that it respawns until it works (sometime it works the first time,
sometimes the second time and sometimes more restarts are needed).

[Bug 1061063] [NEW] Reimplement automatic appearing of remote CUPS queues brodcasted by DNS-SD/Bonjour

2012-10-03 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Since cups 1.6+, cups browsing protocol and automatic appearing of
remote CUPS queues doesn't work anymore (LP: #1052897).

This is a serious regression because each user has to :

- manually add each queue of interest at every site (as printers don't appear
automagically anymore)
- keep a big list of non existing printers when moving (as printers don't
disappear automagically anymore)

The local cups server (or another daemon) should have a mean to
automatically add discovered printers (like it does for USB printers for
example).

@Kevin

It will actually be worse than on Windows where shared printer are
automatically added...

I wish we could downgrade cups for quantal until those features are back
in one form or another...

[Bug 1052897] Re: Printer sharing via CUPS broadcasting dropped in CUPS 1.6.x

2012-10-02 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Do I understand correctly that this means that there is no longer a way
to automatically show all queues available in the user's current
location and that we have to manually add each printer on each location
(and that those printers won't disappear when the user moves somewhere
else)?

If that's the case, this is a serious regression...

[Bug 1060092] [NEW] Cups 1.6.1 doesn't show printers shared by other cups servers

2012-10-02 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Client : quantal beta2
Server : precise

I know cups dropped cups sharing but both the server and the client I
have have avahi running and sharing is not working anyway since I
upgraded to quantal (and thus cups 1.6.1).

This is a serious regression as we can't possibly ask all our users to
manually add several printing queues at each of the location they can
be.

There are many other regressions with cups 1.6.1 (see for example the
list here : https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=735404), maybe
it'll be safer to downgrade cups until the features Apple dropped are
properly ported elsewhere.

Thanks

2012-09-19 Thread Jonathan Ernst
I still cannot boot with jsalisbury on my ux32v (previous kernel version
works but also give me a black screen if I patch in Asus wmi) .
Sometimes caps locks keep on blinding with no screen, other times I just
don't have a screen at all. I'm also using my ssd to boot.

Thanks for your help

[Bug 1049603] [NEW] Ubiquity tries/asks user to unmount the install media when installing from USB key

2012-09-12 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Present in at least 12.04 and 12.10 when installing using a USB key.

Installer asks if it can unmount /dev/sdb1 before the partitioning step

Installer should know it's running from there and not ask user this
question.

[Bug 1049609] [NEW] Swiss French keyboark layout is under German (Swiss) - Français (Suisse)

2012-09-12 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

This regression first appeared in 12.04 and is still present in 12.10.

Swiss French keyboard layout is found under German (Swiss) - Français
(Suisse) which makes no sense.

It should be under Swiss - or French -.

This makes it hard for people in the french speaking part of switzerland
to choose the correct layout during installation (note that the keyboard
layout applet after installation doesn't have this issue).

[Bug 873470] Re: File-roller is associated with .docx files instead of LibreOffice

2011-10-13 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Funnily enough on older Ubuntu releases : this file is correctly
associated with libreoffice/openoffice AND it can be successfully opened
with file-roller (as docx files are zip files). But on Oneiric the file
is wrongly associated with file-roller and file-roller cannot even
handle the same file...

I think we have two different bugs here.

[Bug 869820] Re: Keybord layout is wrong in lightdm

Hello Sebastien,

Thanks for looking into this. I don't have a xorg.conf but my
/etc/default/keyboard was indeed wrong (it is attached below). I've
fixed it by copying a pre-upgrade /etc/default/keyboard and have no idea
how those layout changes have been put there...

[Bug 505645] Re: Sansa Clip+ (CLIPP, Clip Plus) digital audio player not recognised properly

2011-01-18 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Hi Jonathan :-)

0781:74d0 : mtp mode, handled by libmtp
0781:74d1 : msc mode, handled by media-player-info

Your lsusb from Comment #5 shows that you are now using msc mode (you
were using mtp in Comment #1). So is the original reporter.

But in Comment #6 you have shown that you have an outdated mpi file
(which is normal as it is the one currently in Maverick).

Please update to the version currently in proposed and let me know if it
works :

1) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed
2) sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get install media-player-info
3) remove proposed repo

[Bug 128417] Re: sansa mp3 player detected as camera

2010-11-07 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Your lshal.txt shows the usb id of the MTP mode for your player ; in
this case the bug should be reported agains libmtp imho.

Your player will be correctly detected as a media player in MSC/UMS mode
in next Ubuntu version (thanks to http://cgit.freedesktop.org/media-
player-info/tree/media-players/sandisk-sansa_m200-series.mpi).

Looking at /lib/udev/rules.d/45-libmtp8.rules in maverick your player
should be detected as an audio player now, could you please retest in
Maverick and let us know if it works any better?

Thanks a lot for your patience ;-)

[Bug 505645] Re: Sansa Clip+ (CLIPP, Clip Plus) digital audio player not recognised properly

2010-11-07 Thread Jonathan Ernst
@Phil Housley
This should work in Maverick as it is now correctly handled by
media-player-info.

@Jonathan Blackhall
0x74d0 is the ID of your player in MTP mode (not msc). Your player should work
fine in msc mode in Maverick. If you still encounter problems in mtp, please
fill a new bug agains libmtp (run ubuntu-bug libmtp).

[Bug 529526] Re: nokia 5800 smartphone not recognized as storage device (Karmic)

2010-11-07 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the
live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Natty
Narwhal. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can
work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu.

You can find out more about the development release at
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Bug 657609] [NEW] Motorola Milestone is no longer recognized as a media player because the udev rules specify its icon

2010-10-10 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: media-player-info

This is the Motorola Milestone/Droid rule generated from the motorola-
droid.mpi file :

# Droid
ATTRS{idVendor}==22b8 , ATTRS{idProduct}==41d9|41db ,
ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}=motorola-droid ,
ENV{UDISKS_PRESENTATION_ICON_NAME}=phone-motorola-droid

With this rule when I plug in my Milestone it is only recognized as a
photo device.

Removing ', ENV{UDISKS_PRESENTATION_ICON_NAME}=phone-motorola-droid'
from the rule makes it recognized again as a media player and photo
device.

I guess this affects every player that specify it's icon name.

[Bug 655766] [NEW] Programs menu item appear twice in French

2010-10-06 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

Although the Programs menu is now correctly translated in French
(Programmes) with the default builtin wine applications living there,
when installing a new application, they create a second menu folder
named Programmes too so you end up having two Programmes menu
folders.

This is with wine1.3 under Maverick, but I noticed this bug with wine1.2
too.

The attached screenshot shows the problem.

[Bug 650883] [NEW] Ubiquity tries to install on the install media by default

2010-09-29 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Installing maverick from an USB Key (sdb), the installer first asked me
if it can unmount some partition on sdb and then when choosing to
install Ubuntu on my disk it selected this usb key instead of my brand
new hard disk (sda).

The installer should be smart enough to figure out that i shouldn't
unmount the media where it is actually stored and not to choose the
default installation disk as it's own media.

[Bug 545151] Re: Android Phones require .is_audio_player on SD card

2010-09-18 Thread Jonathan Ernst
This seems fixed on Maverick (the mdi file with the correct usb id is
there).

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the
live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick
Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can
make sure it is really fixed in the next release of Ubuntu.

You can find out more about the development release at
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .

Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

[Bug 573219] Re: Samsung YP-M1 media player missing

2010-09-18 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Can you please try the following and let me know if it makes your player
recognized without an .is_audio_player file ?

1) put the attached file (samsung-yepp_yp-m1.mpi) in
/usr/share/media-player-info/
2) ALT+F2 and run : gksudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb-media-players.rules
3) paste the following two lines just before the last line (last line should be
LABEL=media_player_end) :

# Yepp YP-M1
ATTRS{idVendor}==04e8 , ATTRS{idProduct}==5123 ,
ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}=samsung-yepp_yp-m1

If it works, I'll send the required file upstream so your player is
automaticaly recognized in the future.

(step 1) must be done as root, if you are not comfortable with command
line, do ALT+F2 and run : gksudo nautilus then navigate to the
/usr/share/media-player-info/ directory and put the file there)

[Bug 573219] Re: Samsung YP-M1 media player missing

2010-09-18 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Thanks for your test.

For the max_secors issue you could add something like this to the udev
rule I guess :

RUN+=/bin/sh -c '/bin/echo 64 /sys/block/%k/device/max_sectors'

However I don't know/think it can be set from the mpi file.

I will send my .mpi file to freedesktop.org and I suggest you open a new
bug for the max_sector problem. If my suggestion above works, maybe add
this information to the new bug and comment here to let us know the new
bug number.
