2014-05-01 Thread Jordon Bedwell
Indeed it looks to be related to the repeat feature as that fixed it,
but I don't know if that is expected behavior as software should behave
and this doesn't seem like behaving, could this behavior not be adjusted
so that if it detects a single file with a missing over and over again
it does not consume the all the CPU and instead just stops?

[Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-11-19 Thread Jordon Bedwell
Crap, I had a strong suspicion this was the case because I too didn't
experience this bug in 12.10 but 12.10 did not really appeal to my
tastes (because of some personal reasons that aren't necessary to this
bug.) I don't remember if I ever mentioned that in another bug or not.

Just as a side request if you could, can you please report the default
settings for 12.10 for the settings you changed. I actually prefer to
keep my desktop tearfree and knowing what those settings are by default
in 12.10 will help me a long with plenty of others who want to keep
tearfree. (I remember keeping tearfree enabled and not having the
problem in 12.10 but the case might have changed since I tested it
before Quantal was released and in beta1)

Thanks for taking the time to look into this deeper, and I'm sorry if I
sounded angry earlier, I just really wanted updates on the matter and
you surely did provide updates that show me peeps care!

[Bug 1080722] Re: Immediate restart nearly forced by Update-Manager 12.10

2012-11-19 Thread Jordon Bedwell
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1033226 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033226

Nearly is subjective IMO. While I think the behavior can/should change
I don't think it's forced at all. Much like Windows it allows you to
minimize it but it makes sure to (try and) keep itself inside your view
so that you are reminded. One thing you have to admin is that unlike
Windows at least it doesn't pop up every 4 hours (at maxmum) with a
timer that restarts for you even if you are unaware causing you to lose
work.

Maybe take a mid-Windows style approach where a user can set a timer to
remind them (as they are working) but unlike Windows don't have that
timer have a timer that auto-restarts without your knowledge or telling
it, I feel it's time to restart. I personally like that approach
because more often than not I will want to be reminded (and the red gear
icon hints at me too) but I don't want to be reminded while I'm working,
but if it pops up anytime while I'm not working I would be more than
happy to oblidge.

[Bug 754508] Re: Modal dialogs don't appear on the workspace of their parent window

2012-07-15 Thread Jordon Bedwell
As a work around for some people you can install compizconfig-settings-
manager and go into the General Options then hit up display settings and
disable smart-mode. Although I assume this fix only works for people
with different monitors with different resolutions (such as the people
like me who had 1366 and then a 1080p tv connected to the HDMI.) I set
mine to put everything new into the smaller window (my laptop screen)
and it started placing all the dialogs and new windows into the right
place.

[Bug 1016724] Re: Laptop brightness always reverts to maximum on 12.04

2012-07-03 Thread Jordon Bedwell
This bug affects all my G series and Envy series HP laptops, as well as
my Dell. They all either have an AMD APU (all my HP laptops) or an i5
(the Dell). We had the same problem back in 11.10. There is one thing
in common between all my laptops and that's that they all have 7 series
graphics, even my favorite (the A4 has discrete 7 series with 6 series
on the die.)

[Bug 925895] Re: Ambiance sub-menus light like Radiance after latest light-themes update.

2012-03-22 Thread Jordon Bedwell
Nobody cares what you believe. A persons attitude and opinion (read
opinion, you know what that means yes?) does not dictate whether a bug
is legit or not. Go see a shrink if you have personal problems with a
way a person acts and don't close a legit bug because you have issues
with the way people are talking. This is NOT your bug, and you are NOT
the developer. You are just being an asshole now, just like we were,
actually at this point, you are no better than us, and maybe even worse,
but I don't just people like you and get butt hurt and start closing
bugs for no reason just because I 'had a problem with the way people are
talking'. Get the fuck over yourself.

2012-03-21 Thread Jordon Bedwell
Ubuntu looks like trash with a white menu on a dark theme regardless of
where it is placed or where it is sourced from or whatever the
justification is. It's an ignorant design decision and any designer who
would stand for such an ugly mark should not be designing. I know I'm
being harsh here but this is clearly the work of somebody who knows
nothing about /real/ design, or who likes to cause people eyestrain, or
who likes to troll.

Don't mark a bug as invalid just because you think you can. This bug is
still affecting people and there are still issues going on regardless of
the bad design decision there are still obvious bugs. I find it ironic
you call somebody rude and then go and do something like that.

Who in their right mind decided that light right click menus was good
taste? Is the goal to punish users who spend most of their lives in a
dark terminal? To punish programmers? To punish anybody who doesn't
like such contrasting design decisions? I just don't understand who
could have approved such a decision and where this false sense of good
design came from. Seriously what is going on over there?

@andrea so just one question. Will the final goal be that dark
sources create dark context menus and light sources create light
context menus? If that's the case I'm down for that but the only thing
that is catching me as possibly eye fracturing is the possible white
context menu on dark places (even websites count here.)

[Bug 926144] Re: Unity Launcher Icons are black

2012-02-04 Thread Jordon Bedwell
This is more than likely a Unity compiz-plugin issue and I'll have to
look at your and my logs more but this is certainly confirmed and it's
confirmed that the fix is to set the colour to anything but RGB 0,0,0
(example: I used 1, 1, 1 and could set the opacity to anything above 50
and it would work right -- anything below would result in white.)

[Bug 925895] Re: Ambiance menus light like Radiance after latest light-themes update.

2012-02-03 Thread Jordon Bedwell
@fitoschido There is a difference between bright and white (and when it
comes to good monitors -- like the one I have -- you can see every step
of black they use -- really well.) I would not personally see a white
menu or even a 'bright' menu on a black theme any valid design decision,
it's bad enough that the gradients changed in 11.04 and look bad now
(IMNSHO, but not bad enough to make me complain) and that the orange is
not dark enough on the blacks they use but now you want to justify a
white or bright menu? You can't justify such a change like you can a
badly selected orange or a badly made gradient.

Though, I wouldn't fight them making a high-contrast Ambiance and a low-
contrast ambiance, one that well make menus brighter and uses a bad
orange and one that lowers the tones of the menus and makes the orange
darker and more subtle on the blacks and even uses a subtle gray for the
nautilus background (making it less eye straining.) I wish I knew enough
about GTK theming to do it and contribute to this area, but alas no time
:(

[Bug 815540] Re: Server becomes unresponsive after spawning 16 ksoftirqd processes

2011-07-27 Thread Jordon Bedwell
Can we get a filtered dmesg for the failing server and a bootdmesg for
both to compare? Your UFW is taking up valuable real estate in dmesg so
it might be fitting to attach log outputs without all the UFW cruft if
you can please.

[Bug 815540] Re: Server becomes unresponsive after spawning 16 ksoftirqd processes

2011-07-27 Thread Jordon Bedwell
I would much more prefer the output of dmesg |grep -v UFW and there
should be indicators in dmesg unless there is a random race condition,
but so far this seems like it might be the drive but we'll have to see
some logs to make an informed guess on that.

[Bug 722019] Re: Failed to install the bootloader

2011-06-30 Thread Jordon Bedwell
I haven't had a chance to look at the script yet, but after testing, it
seems that using the switch --allow-system-internal you will be able to
install the bootloader on a USB stick, I tested this with 11.04 making
an 11.04 startup disk to a PNY stick. Would one of you who reported
this also try to use that switch and confirm if it works for you?

[Bug 267715] Re: ndiswrapper -r should check its argument

2011-06-28 Thread Jordon Bedwell
This bug is far wider than the original submitter had originally
assumed. After testing this bug for security (by recommendation) and
validating it to see if it should be closed, I soon discovered I was
able to delete /dev/null and /etc/ndiswrapper and any other directory I
chose to delete using ndiswrapper -r. I have submitted this bug
upstream as well as this is a security bug.

[Bug 789688] Re: UbuntuHashes doesn't contains SHA256

2011-05-31 Thread Jordon Bedwell
Belabela,

Publicly editable does not mean it's insecure. The Wiki does keep track
of all edits so that an audit can happen. By your theory the
information you linked to on Wikipedia is insecure as well, because I
can go and edit it freely and forge all kinds of information. HTTPS
does not make an editable wiki more secure.

Aside from that, you can also compare each version (edit.) You would
need to compromise the back-end to the wiki to forge the edit, and even
then an admin can go back and revert the edit and disclose the false
edit warning the community at large that a compromise happened and that
they should validate their ISO's if downloaded during that given time
frame.

To also note, everything on those mirrors is directly from Ubuntu, they
do not create the sums themselves and Ubuntu provides sums, as you can
clearly see here at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/11.04/release/SHA256SUMS and
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/11.04/release/SHA1SUMS.

As far as the HTTPS, my suggestion is that you create a separate bug for
that and request that they add HTTPS to the CDIMAGE site.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description and possibly an
apport-collect, strace or backtrace of the potential problem. I am able

information and is pretty general. Could you please try the following
to see if we can get more information on the error:

sudo service postgresql start
Does it return any specific errors?

And please check: /var/log/postgresql/postgresql*.log
Do you see any errors?

The package installation is failing at starting postgresql The
PostgreSQL server failed to start. Please check the log output. so if
we could get you to manually try and start it we can see if there is an
error thrown out that can be fixed.

I'm pretty sure I implied it was included? And it's not too complicated

it's a wishlist issue.

[Bug 648272] Re: non executable bit on cd rom media

2010-09-26 Thread Jordon Bedwell
David,

This is not a bug, it's a feature. According to upstream you can disable
NX Bit using the kernel flag noexec=off and noexec32=off, if you still
have problems, disable it in your CPU too using your BIOS. Please also
refrain from making false statements about other operating systems on
Launchpad. While I am no Windows fanboy, it is not true that Microsoft
needs to BUY some CODE in this case, since Microsoft has implemented
DEP (NX Bit) since Windows XP SP2 and NX Bit was mostly designed to
prevent buffer overflows, not all Malware, if it was designed to prevent
all types of Malware you certainly wouldn't ever see rootkits and
backdoors on corporate Linux and Windows environments.

[Bug 641469] Re: cannot report a bug of a root process

2010-09-25 Thread Jordon Bedwell
I was unable to replicate this and was able to run a report on a root
process using sudo. Are you sure that the process was still alive when
you were trying to run the report? Try doing: sudo ubuntu-bug 1 and
see if you still get that message so you can work out whether or not it
was simply an issue with the process dying.
