[Bug 2068865] [NEW] TP Link UE200 not working in newer version unless we unplug and replug it

2024-06-09 Thread Eldho K K
Public bug reported:

I had ordered a USB to Lan adapter from TP link
https://tinyurl.com/kptfvtrp which used to work perfectly fine around
6-8 months ago in Ubuntu Server 20.04 running Raspberry PI 4B (4GB RAM)
and I recently tried to connect it to same hardware and OS and it fails
to show the interface. It doesn't show up in lsusb but if unplug and
plug it it works fine what could be the problem?

I had the same problem when using another HDMI cable

I couldn't change the external monitor to a lower resolution because it
kept flickering and going to the menu for the external monitor, it would
just reset and send me to the settings for the built-in monitor

I attached a video

2024-04-19 Thread J K
I just removed the oibaf packages with

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers -r

I also tried

sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

but it said no such drivers existed

I rebooted but I'm getting the same flickering problem

My only option now is to reinstall the OS?

[Bug 2062504] [NEW] Flickering problems on external monitor with HDMI after installing Ubuntu 23.10

2024-04-19 Thread J K
Public bug reported:

I just installed ubuntu 23.10 on my thinkpad L13. It works fine on my
laptop monitor. But when I connect an HDMI cable to my other monitor,
then the screen flickers on the laptop and nothing shows on the other
monitor

I know it can't be the problem with the other monitor as I bought it
brand new last week, and the cable works fine on this same laptop when I
run in windows, and it works fine on other laptops with windows/mac

I already installed the driver with `sudo apt install nvidia-driver-535
nvidia-dkms-535` and rebooted, but that didn't help. I then installed
driver 550 and I still have the flickering

This laptop uses an intel Alder Lake-UP3 GT2

I also tried editing `etc/default/grub` by adding 'nomodeset' or
'radeon.modeset=0' within the quotation marks in the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT but that didn't help either

can anyone help?

[Bug 2060717] [NEW] colcon-core argument parsing is broken by recent changes to Python 3.11+

2024-04-09 Thread Scott K Logan
Public bug reported:

Recent changes to Python which have been backported to Python 3.11 and
3.12 break colcon argument parsing due to a dependency on private API in
argparse.

A fix has been released in colcon-core 0.16.1 which should be backported
to any platforms which will receive the updated Python releases.

The python3-colcon-core package currently in Ubuntu Noble is suffering
from this issue now.

[Bug 2030784] Re: Backport Intel's AVX512 patches on openssl 3.0

2024-03-10 Thread Bun K Tan
Hello @adrien-n,

I had Dan Zimmerman take a look at this issue and found a solution.
This is what he shared:

Steps to reproduce:
---
Get Source and apply patch:
git clone https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl ubuntu_openssl
cd ubuntu_openssl
git checkout applied/ubuntu/devel
git apply 001-vaes_gcm_avx512.patch (See comment #11 for attachment)
This patch is essentially what is referred to as "[PATCH 2/2] AES-GCM enabled
with AVX512 vAES and vPCLMULQDQ."
Build OpenSSL
./config --prefix=/tmp/ubuntu_openssl_install
--openssldir=/tmp/ubuntu_openssl_install
make -j
make test
Note AES-GCM Test Failures

Steps to resolution:

Apply patch:
make clean
git apply 002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch
make -j
make test
Note AES-GCM Tests Pass

Solution:
-
The solution to the failed test cases comes from this merged OpenSSL Pull
Request: Avoid having another copy of key schedule in PROV_GCM_CTX by t8m ·
Pull Request #22384 · openssl/openssl (github.com)
Direct application of this PR will fail due to the fact that the OpenSSL
doesn't support SM4_GCM in v3.0.13. So I made the edits by hand and created
the patch file 002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch

** Patch added: "002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/2030784/+attachment/5754725/+files/002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch

[Bug 2055424] Re: [Ubuntu 24.04-server]- installation failed for all Intel server platforms

Hi @dbungert - is this an intermittent issue? I was able to install
successfully on Feb 22. But today, I haven't been successful after 3-4
attempts. Is it in the installer image itself or stuff being downloaded
during the installation that's causing the problem?

[Bug 1838636] Re: SecTmpDir operation has undocumented restrictions

2024-02-28 Thread Y K
I recently encountered this error and while I haven't managed to resolve
it, I can shed a little more light on it and offer a simple workaround.
Switching off ModSecurity is the work around. This obviously removes a
layer of security so isn't an ideal solution. What I've ascertained is
that the temp files are actually created and written to. All files are
individually created and additionally a file named -request_body-
which contains the entire post including the cumulative size of all
uploaded files is also created. The error described above pertains to
this larger file, which suggests to me that ModSecurity has a parameter
which limits the size of file which can be read or transferred to
another location on the drive.

If anyone knows what this parameter may be, post it here so that others
who come across this rare but very real error, may have a potential
solution.

[Bug 1976567] [NEW] Desktop scaling was set incorrectly until I booted up the PC AFTER turning on the monitor

2022-06-01 Thread Seija K.
Public bug reported:

Whenever I boot up my PC, I turn on the monitor as well. When this
happens, the Intel Mesa graphics loads, and my screen ends up being
small with large pixelated icons. The resolution was capped at 1024x768.
Only after I reboot my PC multiple times without changing the display
settings did the resolution increase to 1680x1050, the correct
resolution.

[Bug 1976531] [NEW] Mouse is no longer recognized after I suspend my PC and wake it back up

2022-06-01 Thread Seija K.
Public bug reported:

When I went to Suspend my PC, I woke it back up again. I returned to the
Lock Screen as expected.

However, even though my keyboard responded to button pushes, the mouse
connected did not light up at all; it was no longer receiving power
until I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back in.

The mouse, like the keyboard, should have had power sent to it when the
PC woke up.

Hi,

upower 0.99.18 version contains the fix for this. Are there plans to
integrate this version to Ubuntu 20.04?

[Bug 1162216] Re: touchscreen does not tap - sometimes

2022-05-25 Thread pieter k
I am using Kubuntu 22.04 and I have the same experience. It is always the same:
when I start the machine it's fine. But after one- or a few minutes
tap-to-click crashes.
I recently discovered that I can bring tap-to-click back to life again by
touching the touchscreen with my finger (try to start an app etc). Within a few
seconds tap-to-click starts working again. And it often stays running very long.
It feels as if two processes are hindering each other or so. And when that is
over there are not so much problems anymore.
I use the backports ppa and the plasma 5.25 beta ppa in the hope that the
touchscreen would behave better that way, but it isn't.

[Bug 276804] Re: flurry screensaver takes 100% of CPU

2022-05-03 Thread T K
Hey, I got this problem on a freshly installed and upgraded LUbuntu, I
only installed xrdp and ssh

when I disconnect with rdp, the system has usually the screensaver
enabled (flurry). today I noticed that the fan was pretty high for idle
and flurry used a bit more than a full CPU core. I looked on it with rdp
and the screensaver was very choppy but still reacted and closed it self
upon interaction, but had still a background task that took up 35% of a
core.

it's been 14 years and no one even looked into this, thus this bug
sticks still around. I deactivated the screensaver altogether because I
don't need it, but having such bugs is not acceptable.

I assume this bug will be fixed once video decoding has been moved to a utility
process (bug 1722051).
Until then, MOZ_DISABLE_RDD_SANDBOX=1 environment variable is required to try
out experimental VAAPI.

[Bug 1965241] Re: Include DPC Fixes in Ubuntu 22.04 and 20.04

2022-04-26 Thread Narendra K
Michael,

We tried the test kernel from comment #5. From the sanity tests, basic
functionality works as expected -

On a system where NVMe end point is connected to root port,

1. When an EDR event occurs, the link is contained and system does not crash.
2. The config space of NVMe end point device is restored.

The DPC functionality does not work as expected if CONFIG_PCIE_EDR is
not enabled.

Test Case:

1. Disable the memory space of NVMe end point device
2. Issue IO to the device
3. Observe dmesg. dmesg shows that EDR event is generated, link is contained
and NVMe device is recovered.

2. Observe the dmesg

[Bug 1967565] [NEW] upower takes long time to detect laptop AC charger plugged in

2022-04-01 Thread Balanarayan K
Public bug reported:

upower takes a really long time (around 1-2 minutes) to detect when an AC
charger is plugged-in.
'upower -d' shows battery state as discharging after AC charger is plugged-in.
'systemctl restart upower.service' would update the status immediately as
charging. Otherwise, it takes 1-2 minutes before upower updates the status.

Laptop Model: Acer Aspire E15 E5-573G-56JN

Laptop battery and AC charger is not faulty as the charging/discharging
status gets correctly detected when using Windows 10.

[Bug 1965804] [NEW] Dropbox keeps downloading the same upgrade over and over again on Ubuntu 20.04.04: dropbox-upgrade-144.4.4491.tar.gz

2022-03-21 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS and following version of nautilus-dropbox:
2019.02.14-1ubuntu1

Problem: The dropbox syncing daemon keeps downloading the same upgrade
over and over again: In this case dropbox-upgrade-144.4.4491.tar.gz.
There are already several copies in folder
$HOME/Dropbox/.dropbox.cache/tmp_dirs/ .

I have a slow internet connection and it's very annoying that dropbox is
blocking it more than needed. I also don't understand why dropbox won't
continue to download a partially-downloaded upgrade file (e.g. caused by
a timeout or a suspend of the computer) but instead starting over again.

I've seen several download attempts in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS already but now
it loaded it 10x without success.

I expect that the upgrade file is downloaded only once and that an
already partially-downloaded file is continued instead starting to
download from byte 1 again.

** Affects: nautilus-dropbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1875114] Re: freeipa-server package missing on Ubuntu 20.04

2022-03-13 Thread Nils K
Since december last year the freeipa-server package is in the debian
experimental distribution
(https://packages.debian.org/experimental/freeipa-server). Sadly it
seems like it will not be included in 22.04 LTS - maybe as a backport if
one might hope once it lands in debian.

[Bug 1012858]

2022-02-18 Thread K-it-m
Somewhat nice that after nearly 10 years something has been done about
this.

Yet I strongly suspect that this "cures" just one of the symptoms of a deeper
issue,
namely some busy waiting whenever a network connection is a attempted but the
network or the addressed server is (temporarily) unavailable.

See also bug 1107251, bug 683651, bug 562977, and likely several more.

I have the same issue.
I have a Legion 7 16ACHg6 which I'm testing under Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS and 21.10
LiveUSB, and in both of them there is no sound out of the built-in speakers.
Headphones are working fine though.
05:00.6 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 17h (Models

hwinfo shows that there is a "Realtek ALC701" chip in this laptop.

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-11 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Hi Daniel,
In my understanding, the crash is not reproducible after my workaround
(switching to the nvidia driver), because the nvidia-resume.service is not
masked (my theory).

Therefore, I switched back to the Nouveau driver, and I reproduced the
problem and collected the system logs as you asked. Now prevboot.txt
contains the logs from a clean boot, through the session crash and ends
with a (user requested) reboot.

Just for the record, these are the steps to reproduce the bug:

 1. Install Ubuntu 21.10 on a laptop(?) with an nvidia GPU
 2. Open "Software & Updates" -> "Additional Drivers"
 3. Select the latest driver (470)
 4. Reboot
 5. Login normally on GDM
 6. Open "Software & Updates" -> "Additional Drivers"
 7. Select "Nouveau display driver" and apply the changes
 8. Reboot
 9. Login normally on GDM
10. Try to suspend the system
11. You should observe a session crash here

[Bug 1941752]

2021-11-11 Thread K-d-hudson
Created attachment 143424
New crash information added by DrKonqi

gwenview (20.12.3) using Qt 5.15.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

This is a little bizarre. I encountered this while rapidly scrolling
through thumbnails in a directory. One particular image reliably crashes
QwenView, but it isn't the image itself because QwenView opens the image
just fine if I copy it to another directory. If I copy just a few of the
images to another directory, QwenView also works just fine. The
directory contents are available online to replicate this issue. I
downloaded and replicated again just to be sure.

The directory contents are available online inside this archive:
https://downloads.open-
tx.org/2.3/release/sdcard/opentx-t16/sdcard-480x272-2.3V0025.zip. The
directory is IMAGES. The image QwenView crashes on is IMAGES/P51.jpg.

To replicate, extract the archive, and start clicking through the
images. I double clicked on in Dolphin to start.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-10 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Interesting update

Given the "Unit nvidia-resume.service is masked" complain by systemd-
logind in my previous comment, I thought it could be related with the
switching on and off the proprietary nvidia driver: after turning it on,
I turned it off (switching to Nouveau) because of this other bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1947614

So, I opened the "Software & Updates" tool and in "Additional Drivers" I turned
nvidia-driver-470 on again and... voila', the session-crash-on-suspend bug
disappeared.

It looks like to me that the tool messed up some systemd units like
nvidia-resume.service and it didn't return them to the previous state
after I switched back to Nouveau.

Note: the only thing I used to turn on and off the nvidia driver is that
"Software & Updates" tool, no custom configurations/hacks at all.

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-10 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Hi Daniel,
unfortunately, there are no crash files in /var/crash/. I've checked also:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ but there are no crashes reported
in the last month.

It looks like the "crash" is not caused by a fatal signal like SIGSEGV
and no core dump is generated.

But, still from the same log file (attached), I noticed that systemd-
logind exited with a failure:

--

[Bug 1950393] [NEW] GDM Xorg session crashes on suspend

2021-11-09 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Public bug reported:

Since I started using kernel 5.13.0-20 (and 5.13.0-21) on Ubuntu 21.10,
my GDM session crashes when I try to put my laptop to standby.

I've attached a relevant slice of the system journal that starts from
the moment I pressed the power button, configured to trigger suspend, in
my case.

[Bug 1947614] Re: Laptop fans spin at ~50% w/o CPU load with kernel 5.13

2021-11-08 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Major update
--

I've discovered that by switching to the open source Nouveau display
driver the problem disappears, even with the newest Ubuntu 5.13.0-20
kernel.

The problem was related to the "nvidia-driver-470" for my video card: GM107M
[GeForce GTX 950M].
The older 5.11.0-37 Ubuntu did not had this problem, because simply there were
no Nvidia drivers built by DKMS for it. Probably, I switched to the Nvidia
proprietary driver after upgrading to Ubuntu 21.10, so the older kernel
remained without the Nvidia modules.

I'm not sure at the moment if this still a bug for this place. I'll
leave this decision to you guys. At least, it will be useful for other
people with the same issue.

** Summary changed:

- Laptop fans spin at ~50% w/o CPU load with kernel 5.13
+ nvidia-driver-470 makes fans spin at ~50% w/o any load

[Bug 1947614] Re: Laptop fans spin at ~50% w/o CPU load with kernel 5.13

2021-11-08 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Interesting update. I've followed the build instructions for the Ubuntu
kernel: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel

By cloning the repo: git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-impish
And building the kernel tagged as: Ubuntu-5.11.0-20.21+21.10.1

Which is *older* than the last _good_ Ubuntu kernel I have (5.11.0-37)
left installed from the previous version of Ubuntu (21.04, Hirsute) but
the problem is *reproducible*.

This means that the issue is a combination between the configuration in
Ubuntu 21.10 and some Ubuntu kernels built from the ubuntu-impish repo.
I have to try building another Ubuntu kernel from the Hirsute repo and
see what happens. Apparently all mainstream kernels >= 5.11 and all
Ubuntu Impish kernels have this issue, when running Ubuntu 21.10
(desktop).

[Bug 1947614] Re: Laptop fans spin at ~50% w/o CPU load with kernel 5.13

2021-11-06 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
To check the theory about the Ubuntu-specific patches, I tried to boot
another Linux distro (Fedora Live 35) in order to see if the problem
would exist: it did not.

The kernel used was: 5.14.10-300.fc35.x86_64.

Which is more recent that the kernel 5.13.0-20, currently used by Ubuntu
21.10. Therefore, it looks that both the older Ubuntu-specific kernel
and the newest Fedora kernel do _not_ have the problem, thanks to some
custom patches that (apparently) do _not_ exist in 5.13.0-19 nor in the
mainstream Linux kernel.

It's getting even more tricky.

An alternative long-shot theory is that thermal management policies
changed in the newest Ubuntu, but does not activate with kernel 5.11
because of the lack of some kernel feature. That would explain why the
problem exists with the mainstream kernel as well, but not on another
distro.

[Bug 1947614] Re: Laptop fans spin at ~50% w/o CPU load with kernel 5.13

2021-11-06 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Given that the problem exist with kernel 5.13.0-19 and newer but not
with kernel 5.11.0-37, I tried to find which the change triggered this
weird behavior using git bisect. I used bisect in the range [v5.11,
v5.13] (official tags) and I've built the standard non-ubuntu kernel(s)
using:

make -j4 bindeb-pkg LOCALVERSION=-custom

As config, I used the Ubuntu one from: /boot/config-5.11.0-37-generic
and accepted all the new config options as default.

But, before finishing to test all the bisect steps, I found that even
with the first kernel, v5.11, commit:
f40ddce88593482919761f74910f42f4b84c004b, the problem already exists.

Therefore, it looks like there were some Ubuntu-specific patches in
5.11.0-37 that prevented the problem to happen. In the original v5.11
kernel, the fans spin at ~50% apparently no matter the CPU load.

Apparently, those Ubuntu patches that prevented the problem from
happening, got changed in 5.13.0-19. Does anybody have a clue what could
that be?

Thanks,
Vlad
