[Bug 1316816] [NEW] No wifi (BCM4321) after upgrade because linux-firmware-nonfree isn't installed (removed ?)

2014-05-06 Thread KLEIN Stéphane
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded my Ubuntu from 13.04 = 14.04.

Wifi worked very well on 13.04

No wifi after upgrade to 14.04.

After many evening to try to fix wifi, I found that I need to install
linux-firmware-nonfree

Question : why this package was installed on 13.04 and missing (removed)
after upgrade ?

How can I help you to fix it for every BCM4321 user ?

How can we say : if laptap have BCM4321 and linux-firmware-nonfree
package missing, ask to user to install it ?

Best regards,
Stephane

[Bug 858116] [NEW] On Ubuntu 11.04 with r8169 ethernet card, I need to use ethtool to fix issue to detect eth0 link up

2011-09-24 Thread KLEIN Stéphane
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I install Ubuntu 11.04 from USB key, on clean hard disk.

I've this Ethernet controller :

Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet [10ec:8169] (rev 10)
Kernel driver in use : r8169
Kernel modules: r8169

After installation, eth0 link isn't detected.

In dmesg, I've this message :

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready

To fix this issue, I need to append this data in
/etc/modprobe.d/r8169.conf :

install r8169 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install r8169 /sbin/ethtool -s
eth0 autoneg off

One difficulty : ethtool isn't installed by default, isn't present in
Ubuntu USB key :(

[Bug 500995] [NEW] I can't disable keyboard beep, configuration option missing in System Preferences Sound

2009-12-28 Thread KLEIN Stéphane
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Hi,

In previous Ubuntu version (I don't remenber the version number, maybe
7.04) there was an option in System Preferences Sound to
enable/disable bell sound.

Now if I would like to disable this bell sound, I need to change
bell_duration value to 0 in gconf
(/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/bell_duration).

I think this isn't user friendly, I've another newbies friend with this
issue and he could not change this option.
