[Bug 825219] Re: Window opened on secondary monitor gets opened beneath unity panel
I suspect that's also the reason why the panel drop shadow isn't visible in certain multimonitor configurations, the shadow is probably drawn beneath the panel where it isn't visible: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/815794 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825219 Title: Window opened on secondary monitor gets opened beneath unity panel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/825219/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 815794] [NEW] Panel drop shadow missing in --below multi monitor setup
Public bug reported: If one uses a multi monitor setup where one monitor is configured to be below the other (in this case: xrandr --output HDMI1 --primary --auto --output LVDS1 --auto --below HDMI1), the panel on the lower (LVDS1 in this case) monitor doesn't get a drop shadow. If the monitor is placed on the right (xrandr --output HDMI1 --primary --auto --output LVDS1 --auto --right-of HDMI1), the panel gets a drop shadow. This is reproducible any time. Attached screenshots in both configurations, the smaller screen is LVDS1 and is missing a panel drop shadow in one case. [Bug 628725] Re: twidge 0.99.4 does not work with the updated twitter API
From https://github.com/jgoerzen/twidge/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions Fixing 401 Errors starting October 25, 2010 – twidge 1.0.5 and earlier Twitter pulled a fast one on us: they revoked Twidge’s API key for some fake security reason. See http://blog.nelhage.com/2010/09/dear-twitter/ for why this is wrong-headed. You have three options: 1. Upgrade to twidge 1.0.6 2. You can obtain the OAuth.hs file from http://github.com/jgoerzen/twidge/raw/9421da8999efb3322e86c30f8f026af3529576e3/OAuth.hs, put it in place of your existing OAuth.hs in the top level of the twidge distribution, and recompile. 3. You can go to http://dev.twitter.com, register your own app, and set oauthconsumerkey and oauthconsumersecret in your config file to the values given to you by Twitter. Maverick contains version 1.0.2 (which doesn't work), Natty 1.0.6, so it should work in Natty. ** Changed in: twidge (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/628725 Title: twidge 0.99.4 does not work with the updated twitter API -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529510] Re: kcryptd using 100% IO load
I'm experiencing the same problem on a (arguably fairly underpowered, but dual-core) Intel Atom D510MO running Ubuntu 10.10 server (amd64). RAID1 on 2 x 2TB SATA drives, a single dm-crypt on top of that which contains a single LVM VG with two LVs for / and /home. 2 Clients (one with a 100MBit/s, the other with a 1GBit/s connection to the server, the server itself is connected with 1GBit/s) making backups on a SMB share on /home. If only the 100MBit/s-client is pumping out data, kcryptd uses ~30% CPU, iptraf showing ~90MBit/s traffic incoming, system responds quite nicely. If the 1Gbit/s-client starts to pump out data in parallel, kcryptd jumps to 100%, making the server virtually unusable as far as IO is concerned (takes ages to login or even start top, but it's fine if it doesn't need IO). Surprisingly, iptraf only jumps up to max. 120MBit/s incoming while this is happening, so there's not *that* much more traffic to handle, but now probably coming from 2 separate SMB threads. I found this recent commit to Linus' tree which could solve this problem. The dm-crypt scalability patch from Andi Kleen apparently was in development for quite a while and according to the commit message seems to address this problem. http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=c029772125594e31eb1a5ad9e0913724ed9891f2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529510 Title: kcryptd using 100% IO load -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 604252] Re: system freeze before entering suspend
I tried to remember what I did the past few days that I normally don't and it seems that burning a DVD triggers those freezes on my laptop. I booted my laptop and tried suspending/resuming a few times which worked without problems. After burning and ejecting a DVD I couldn't suspend anymore, this persisted over reboots and even shutting down the laptop didn't change that. After unplugging every power source for half a minute or so, I was able to suspend/resume again without problems. The DVD I burned was corrupted by the way, it failed the checksum test brasero performs after burning. Oh well, it was working a while for me but eventually unplugging my laptop didn't fix it anymore.. Seems it was just a coincidence :/ I'm currently running the daily mainline kernel (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/daily/2010-10-15-maverick/) and have been successfully suspending and resuming my laptop 20 times now. [Bug 604252] Re: system freeze before entering suspend
Okay, the kernel is triggering the vt switch as part of its suspend logic. Older Ubuntu kernels had that switch disabled, the patch that disabled it was however pulled out with 2.6.35-5.6 since it caused suspend/resume problems (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/594885) Your original report states that you were running 2.6.35-7.12, so actually it should also have switched vts back when you were having problems. The problem thus probably isn't solved by the vt switch, but by something else. Let's hope it stays that way. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- system freeze before entering suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604252 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 604252] Re: system freeze before entering suspend
Nicolò, is this still an issue for you? I tried suspending and resuming multiple times on my E6400 (Intel GM45) and it worked every time. Note that I see a console cursor every time before it suspends and after it resumes, so I think it does a vt-switch away from X before suspending and to X after resuming. AFAIK it doesn't do that on Lucid. Does this also happen on your system? (I mention it since you wrote that you could successfully suspend/resume from another VT) Tested with a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 Beta: linux 2.6.35.19.20 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.12.0-1ubuntu3 libdrm-intel1 2.4.21-1ubuntu2 Tested on a Dell Latitude E6400, Intel GM45 with and without an external monitor connected. @Andrew: You should open a separate bug since you're seeing a different problem, this bug only concerns Intel graphics. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- system freeze before entering suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604252 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 613474] [NEW] Umlauts in fs-label cause actual label to be longer than indicated
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility Umlauts apparently have to be encoded to be used in a file system label (e.g. ä becomes M-CM-$). This causes confusion when a long fs-label with at least one umlaut in it is chosen, because the resulting label is longer than allowed, although it doesn't look like it. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open palimpsest 2. Create a new partition, choose ext4 3. Enter a long fs-label with at least one umlaut in it (the current german default is Neuer Datenträger, which palimpsest shortens to Neuer Datenträge because of the 16 characters label limit) 4. Create the partition Expected result: File system is created with the given label Actual result: Error message: Error creating file system: helper exited with exit code 1: given file system label exceeds 16 characters For comparison, this is what it looks like if done manually: $ sudo tune2fs -L Neuer Datenträger /dev/sdb1 tune2fs 1.41.12 (17-May-2010) Warning: label too long, truncating. $ sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sdb1 | grep volume Filesystem volume name: Neuer Datenträg $ sudo blkid /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb1: LABEL=Neuer DatentrM-CM-$g UUID=785fab65-ddb0-49b5-9722-2eca589994c7 TYPE=ext4 Note that the resulting label is 20 characters long, whereas palimpsest limits it to 16 characters. [Bug 541624] [NEW] Corner tap is activated on touchpad with physical buttons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Although the touchpad on the Dell Latitude E6400 has physical buttons, a tap on the top right corner of the touchpad simulates a middle click and a tap on the bottom right corner simulates a right click. As the scroll area is also on the right, one occasionally right- or middle-taps by mistake. This should not be enabled by default. [Bug 539477] Re: Fn+F8 key combination doesn't work on Dell E5500
Oh boy. I don't think this is a linux bug, this is intentional (Dell's intention). I just did a BIOS update on my Dell Latitude E6400 from version A14 to A20. Version A20 doesn't generate keycode 227 anymore (as it did with A14), it generates super-p (windows key + p). Super-p (p as in projector, I guess) on Windows 7 (and probably Vista) pops up a dialog in which you can choose whether you want to clone the display, only activate the internal/external one or extend the desktop over both displays. AFAICT this method has the benefit of the user being able to specifically select the desired configuration without having to cycle through them one at a time, as it was the case with the original display toggle key. The output of xev supports that. It reports: KeyPress event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x501, root 0xb5, subw 0x0, time 582754, (489,-484), root:(492,187), state 0x0, keycode 133 (keysym 0xffeb, Super_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x501, root 0xb5, subw 0x0, time 582754, (489,-484), root:(492,187), state 0x40, keycode 33 (keysym 0x70, p), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (70) p XmbLookupString gives 1 bytes: (70) p XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x501, root 0xb5, subw 0x0, time 582794, (489,-484), root:(492,187), state 0x40, keycode 33 (keysym 0x70, p), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (70) p XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x501, root 0xb5, subw 0x0, time 583392, (489,-484), root:(492,187), state 0x40, keycode 133 (keysym 0xffeb, Super_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False Before this BIOS update there never was a way to tell whether the user was still holding down the fn key when he released f8, this was an instantaneous DisplayToggle Press+Release, no matter how long you actually pressed it. [Bug 539477] Re: Fn+F8 key combination doesn't work on Dell E5500
I think I found the reason for the different behaviour of 2.6.31 and 2.6.32. According to: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=decs=debsdt1l=des=bsdreleaseid=R231574SystemID=LAT_E6400servicetag=os=WLHosl=gedeviceid=15569devlib=0typecnt=0vercnt=11catid=-1impid=-1formatcnt=0libid=1typeid=-1dateid=-1formatid=-1fileid=333175 Dell added support for Windows 7 with BIOS version A15 for the Latitude E6400. A14 + kernel 2.6.32 caused fn-f8 to be reported as keycode 227. Kernel 2.6.31 claims to support the ACPI interface for Vista, 2.6.32 claims to support the ACPI interface for Win7. linux-2.6.31/drivers/acpi/acpica/uteval.c: static struct acpi_interface_info acpi_interfaces_supported[] = { /* Operating System Vendor Strings */ {Windows 2000, ACPI_OSI_WIN_2000},/* Windows 2000 */ {Windows 2001, ACPI_OSI_WIN_XP}, /* Windows XP */ {Windows 2001 SP1, ACPI_OSI_WIN_XP_SP1}, /* Windows XP SP1 */ {Windows 2001.1, ACPI_OSI_WINSRV_2003}, /* Windows Server 2003 */ {Windows 2001 SP2, ACPI_OSI_WIN_XP_SP2}, /* Windows XP SP2 */ {Windows 2001.1 SP1, ACPI_OSI_WINSRV_2003_SP1}, /* Windows Server 2003 SP1 - Added 03/2006 */ {Windows 2006, ACPI_OSI_WIN_VISTA}, /* Windows Vista - Added 03/2006 */ linux-2.6.32/drivers/acpi/acpica/uteval.c: static struct acpi_interface_info acpi_interfaces_supported[] = { /* Operating System Vendor Strings */ {Windows 2000, ACPI_OSI_WIN_2000},/* Windows 2000 */ {Windows 2001, ACPI_OSI_WIN_XP}, /* Windows XP */ {Windows 2001 SP1, ACPI_OSI_WIN_XP_SP1}, /* Windows XP SP1 */ {Windows 2001.1, ACPI_OSI_WINSRV_2003}, /* Windows Server 2003 */ {Windows 2001 SP2, ACPI_OSI_WIN_XP_SP2}, /* Windows XP SP2 */ {Windows 2001.1 SP1, ACPI_OSI_WINSRV_2003_SP1}, /* Windows Server 2003 SP1 - Added 03/2006 */ {Windows 2006, ACPI_OSI_WIN_VISTA}, /* Windows Vista - Added 03/2006 */ {Windows 2006.1, ACPI_OSI_WINSRV_2008}, /* Windows Server 2008 - Added 09/2009 */ {Windows 2006 SP1, ACPI_OSI_WIN_VISTA_SP1}, /* Windows Vista SP1 - Added 09/2009 */ {Windows 2009, ACPI_OSI_WIN_7}, /* Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 - Added 09/2009 */ If the OS claims to support the Vista interface, the BIOS reports fn-f8 as keycode 227. If the OS claims to support the Win7 interface, the BIOS reports fn-f8 as Super_L + p. Conclusion: No bug in Linux, the BIOS just (intentionally) reports fn-f8 differently for Vista and Win7. Which would indicate that Super + p is a feature that was introduced with Win7 :) As I suspect that more and more newer laptops are going to default to this behaviour, you would have to either quirk those to convert Super_L + p to DISPLAYTOGGLE (which is not feasible), or have everything that previously only reacted on DISPLAYTOGGLE to also react on Super_L + p. But that's out of scope for this bug report. -- Fn+F8 key combination doesn't work on Dell E5500 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539477 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I suspect that the following is happening: - lid close causes a (fake) fn-f8 keypress (display toggle on the Dell Latitude E6400, gsd calls it fn-f7), gsd reconfigures outputs (all outputs off) - lid open causes another (fake) fn-f8 keypress, gsd reconfigures outputs (LVDS on) So, for one lid close and open, gsd should receive two (fake) fn-f8 keypresses and reconfigure the outputs each time. Unfortunately any keypress after a fn-f8 keypress will cause a duplicate fn-f8 keypress to appear (bug #535348), causing this: - lid close - fake fn-f8 keypress, gsd reconfigures outputs - lid open - fake fn-f8 keypress, which is causing a duplicate fn-f8 keypress to appear. gsd reconfigures outputs twice - if you hit any key at any time after you've opened the lid, this causes another duplicate fn-f8 keypress to appear. gsd reacts and again reconfigures outputs, causing the visual lag and flashing of icons. This is visible in the log I attached before, gsd claims to handle fn-f7-events four times. -- problems triggered when I open the laptop lid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524830 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 524830] Re: problems triggered when I open the laptop lid
Fixing bug #535348 should provide correct behaviour. gsd should reconfigure the outputs after the lid was closed (all outputs are disconnected on lid-close) and again after it was opened (LVDS1 reconnected). -- problems triggered when I open the laptop lid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524830 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
