cjwatson (if you're still watching) or other openssh uploaders - would
you accept a patch to adjust ssh service files default behaviour to
network-online instead of network ready? If yes I'll prepare a debdiff
for review.

Completely understood, thanks for spelling it out so clearly. Knowing
that option is closed to us we can weight the relative merits of a full
upgrade vs using the cloud archive to get a stack which supports our
requirements.

Is a chance the fix can be backported to bionic-updates or will using
Cloud Archive be the only supported mechanism to get access to the fix?

I see similar package versions in 20.04 but I'm not sure if I can sell
an upgrade for this one fix :)

2020-09-14 Thread KarlGoetz
Hi paelzer,

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1845506 seems a
very good description of my problem, wonder why I missed it (also great
work on tracking it down!).

We're on Ubuntu 18.04, not sure if we'll be moving to 20.04 in the near
term or not (it depends on Other Things).

Not sure about your final request (sorry) - are you asking me to do a
local backport to test the packages or build a new server to test the
instance/s on ?

[Bug 1892306] [NEW] virsh snapshot-create-as fails when --disk-only is specified

2020-08-19 Thread KarlGoetz
Public bug reported:

Reporting per chat in #apparmor . Since that suggestion I've done enough
to establish its highly likely a dupe of one of the tickets I reference
further down but I'm reporting so someone more experienced can determine
where it should be linked to.

I'm seeing denials like this (on ubuntu 18.04) when trying to run virsh
snapshot-create-as server-here --name "Auto snapshot $(date
--rfc-3339=seconds)" --atomic --disk-only ; the profile does include the
libvirt abstraction file which specifies rmix for that binary. is the problem
that its being invoked without a full path?

type=AVC msg=audit(1597890133.739:39299): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
profile="libvirt-a93f9c40-05ef-fa3d-d1fd-c8a36fa533a6"
name=2F7661722F6C69622F6C6962766972742F696D616765732F736572766572323031392D30322E4175746F20736E617073686F7420323032302D30382D32302031323A32323A31322B31303A3030
 pid=43589 comm="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r"
fsuid=64055 ouid=64055

For the record, trying without spaces we have the same error. but the
name of the snapshot simply isn't encoded.

type=AVC msg=audit(1597891120.185:39322): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="libvirt-a93f9c40-05ef-fa3d-d1fd-c8a36fa533a6"

pid=43589 comm="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r"
fsuid=64055 ouid=64055

Further research showed that this succeeds:
virsh snapshot-create-as server-02 --name "Auto snapshot $(date
--rfc-3339=seconds)" --atomic

So its when --disk-only becomes involved the failure occurs. that means
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1320221 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1004606 are
likely to already indicate (if not capture) my problem.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1417288 relates
to the functionality but doesn't cover my usecase

As a final point; I needed to add rwk and re run aa-enforce on the
instance's profile (not libvirt-qemu).

vi /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu
aa-enforce /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-a93f9c40-05ef-fa3d-d1fd-c8a36fa533a6
virsh snapshot-create-as server-here --name
"xxx661722F6C69622F6C6962661722F6C69622F6C696F6C69622F6C6962766ss972742xxx"

created

It appears to me that whatever generates the .files listing should consider
derived names ; it would be better than the `/var/lib/libvirt/images/** rwk,` I
used in terms of confinement.

 Debian opinion != FSF opinion

Indeed. And != Ubuntu opinion too.

 Furthermore, vrms works by looking at the section of the package to
 base its decisions on. If it reports something incorrectly, then there
 are two possibilities (which not exclude one from another):

 1. there is a bug in vrms
 2. there is a bug in the packaging, where an incorrect section of the
 package is declared.

Given this was filed against ubuntu when Gobuntu was being developed,
I'm tempted to suggest this bug should be marked 'invalid'.

FWIW, we have 2.3.1 packaged in git. If you'd be interested in shipping

[Bug 249698] Re: debmirror counts to 100% when downloading Contents-$ARCH.gz files

2011-11-24 Thread KarlGoetz
Adding an upstream watch. its not directly related to this ticket, but
the problem is mentioned in that report.

The current output with -v gives a percent done kind of progress
report after each file. There is no indication if that is based on
number of files or amount of data or something else. I don't know if
it still happens, but it also used to go over 100%. Because of all
this uncertainty, and because there is no way to see how long it
has been running already, the user has no way to estimate how long
things are still going to go on.

thanks,
kk

sub http_get and sub ftp_get are the relevant fucntions, you can see the
print \t # if $progress; about 10 lines in. Why its not being triggered I
don't know though.
Perhaps you should forward this bug to debian and link it back to this report

The current documentation says this:

Don't fail if the FRelease.gpg file is missing. If the file does exist, it
is mirrored and verified, but any errors are ignored.

Does that make it clear enough?

[Bug 34376] Re: missing main/debian-installer in repo causes debmirror to fail

2011-11-24 Thread KarlGoetz
This bug is marked 'fix released' (I'm not sure thats really the case
yet...), but I thought I'd include some more links. These are all debian
bugs *related* to this issue, directly or indirectly. If there is some
agreement, I'll add them as watchers to this bug.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=267721

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=619361

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=581013

Finally, A link to a git branch with a couple of (perhaps dodgy) patches I made
to fix 581013: https://gitorious.org/branches-of-others/debmirror

Joeyh didn't seem all that interested in them (He didn't agree they were
solving a real problem), but they've made my mirror scripts much nicer
:) I don't mirror the cd images, so the code around that might (will
probably) result in the files being cleaned up if the md5sums fail - not
sure what to do about that, perhaps someone has an idea.

I've just tried using libreoffice on debian (version at end) and it
opened the document read only. Once 'save as' is used, it still defaults
to the temporary directory. I'd suggest this means the bug is still open
on the build I have, so I'm inclined to think this bug still exists. Can
anyone still produce it on Ubuntu?

[Bug 823792] [NEW] Sync freeciv 2.2.7-2 (universe) from Debian sid (main)

2011-08-10 Thread KarlGoetz
Public bug reported:

Please sync freeciv 2.2.7-2 (universe) from Debian sid (main)

Explanation of sync request:
The -2 upload resolves issues with the fonts and some multiarch issues.
These already caused an FTBFS in Debian, so its possible they have
introduced some issues into ubuntus packages too.

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 2.2.7-1:

freeciv (2.2.7-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Team upload.
  * repair debian/patches/use_system_lua5.1.diff for multiarch support
  * rebuild to fix missing patch of
data/themes/gui-sdl/human/theme.themespec in 2.2.7-1

If it won't break anything (which seems to be the case) we're happy to
include it.

 It shouldn't break freeciv on other systems, because Jacob's patch
 (http://gna.org/bugs/download.php?file_id=13612) checks whether
 'ubuntu- local' is a supported property before using it. If you're
 willing to add that to the freeciv packaging next time you update it
 in Debian, I can sync us back to your version. And hopefully it will
 land upstream too.

I had a problem with this applying in our 2.2.7, but i'll have another
go at it later and see if i can work out what (i) broke.

 expected. It otherwise seemed to work as far as I tested it (which
 wasn't very far).

Thats good to hear.

 However, it looks like the .desktop Unity workaround will be
 superseded by Michael's work.

Seems so, would have been good to know someone else was working on it;
could have spent the afternoon doing something else.

[...]

 However, it seems quite likely that we won't release another 2.2.x in
 the Oneiric timeframe, and any patch almost certainly won't go in
 2.3.0 either (unless something else goes wrong with the RC). So it'll
 probably be necessary for you to apply the patch in your packaging.

We haven't released 2.2.7 in debian yet, if the patch that Michael
wrote applies cleanly to that we could include it.

 I'll make sure that clean patches against both 2.2.7 and 2.3.0 are
 available, so that you have the choice of which version to put in
 Oneiric. The patch can be removed for Predictable Penguin :)

hopefully 2.2.7 can still make it into oneiric by sync request, so let
me know if you'd like us to get it uploaded.

[Bug 743265] Re: when using unity, the cities menu is not shown

2011-07-16 Thread KarlGoetz
Hi jacob,
Are you after a fix for the released ubuntus?

I can't see a way through launchpad to link this, so i'll do it here:

Freeciv versions affected:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/freeciv-client-gtk - 2.2.1
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/freeciv-client-gtk - 2.2.4
http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/freeciv-client-gtk - 2.2.4 (presumably
affected, i've not tested)
We have 2.2.5 packaged in git, but I was holding off on 2.3 for a new upload
(don't know if this is a sane idea or not tbh).

we can do up a patch and get it added to the ubuntu packages, but i dont
think it'll be a trivial fix. we would have to replace the freeciv
binary with a wrapper script, or force people to use a .desktop file (i
assume these can export environment pre launch).

Additionally, does anyone know if SDL and XAW3D clients are affected, or
if its just GTK?

thanks,
kk

 If it's possible to get it in as an SRU, that would be ideal. It is a
 severe regression from the previous release of Ubuntu (severe for
 Freeciv, not for the whole system). It affects an application rather
 than critical infrastructure packages, although it's less clear that
 the patch will be obviously safe.

I expect we could make it safe enough, but i'll have to find out from

 and the workaround (and get bad reviews in Software Centre because of
 it).

I can understand that.

 It's most critical for Natty, where Unity is the default on the
 desktop. On Maverick I think it only affects the netbook edition by
 default (but we know people play Freeciv on netbooks). Fortunately,
 the workaround should be version-agnostic.

ok. so we might need up to 3 versions patched specially for ubuntu in
that case.

 However, if an SRU isn't possible, at a minimum, I think we should
 plan to get the workaround in Oneiric, in case we haven't worked out
 a proper fix by then. (Assuming it's not already too late to get a
 new version in Oneiric!)

I expect we could get in a patch/wrapper still.

  We have 2.2.5 packaged in git, but I was holding off on 2.3 for a
  new
 upload (don't know if this is a sane idea or not tbh).

 Not sure. We're hoping 2.3.0 will go gold RSN (RC1 this weekend), but
 we've thought that before ;) It mainly depends when the window closes
 for Oneiric, I think.

Debian import freeze has passed, so i suspect it would be harder to go
up a full new version at this stage.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricReleaseSchedule

 If 2.3.0 slips, I recommend you go to 2.2.7 (not yet released, also
 due RSN, but with higher confidence). I wouldn't bother with 2.2.6;
 while it has valuable fixes, it also has an embarrassing regression.
 (As does 2.2.5, actually.)

guess we dodged a bullet by not releasing 2.2.5 then (I didn't know
2.2.6 was out yet, i rely on the /topic and people of #freeciv on
freenode for that sort of news).

  we would have to replace the freeciv binary with a wrapper script,
  or force people to use a .desktop file

 I think the .desktop fix would catch 90% of users, but a wrapper
 script would be better, obviously.

We could include a wrapper going forward, but how long would it be used
for? I hope these UI regressions are nailed down pretty quick. Either
way, i'll write one up later (it should be trivial) and attach it here.

  (i assume these can export environment pre launch).

 Should be able to change Exec=freeciv-gtk2 to Exec=env
 UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= freeciv-gtk, or something like that, I'd expect.
 (Warning: completely unchecked.)

Validates ok, don't have ubuntu installed anyware to test yet.
$ desktop-file-validate z.freeciv.desktop
$ grep Exec $_ Exec=env
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=freeciv-gtk2

  Additionally, does anyone know if SDL and XAW3D clients are
  affected,
 or if its just GTK?

 I wouldn't expect SDL to be affected, since it draws its own widgets
 with custom code, and appmenu won't be able to hook into it. Don't
 know about Xaw, and can't conveniently check right now (but I
 wouldn't hold up a Gtk patch for lack of an Xaw patch, personally).

Thats what I was thinking too, but if i remember i'll test it in a VM
later (assuming the vm installs ok ;))
