natively, and how would this workaround would affect those scanners? If
there is no effect - workaround can be enabled by default.

[Bug 1779185] Re: Brother MFC-9440CN will not scan with 18.04 LTS

2018-07-03 Thread Karolis
> I should not have to worry if a PC has USB2 or a combination of USB2
and USB3

Yeah, well I know that you shouldn't, me neither, but it is very likely
that this bug exists precisely because of that. Back in 2017 June, one
guy submitted this workaround to RedHat
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1458903

If you are affected by the same issue, then at least 3 bugs in this
'sane-backends' backlog could be merged into one - less clutter, more
clear reason, affects more users, more chance to get it fixed faster.

> It is easier to reboot the PC to windows, do the scanning from windows
and use Ext2 volume manager to send the files back to the drives used by
Ubuntu.

That really doesn't sound like an easy (and not frustrating) solution.
I'm currently doing roughly the same but instead of booting another OS,
I turn on my other PC with Debian, which seem to work (which also has a
little older version of the libsane package).

[Bug 1741977] Re: SCX-3200, scanning fails after migration to Kubuntu 17.10

2018-07-02 Thread Karolis
Can also confirm the same problem with SCX-3400 model. Printing and
scanning worked in all versions before 17.10, and scanning stopped
working since then. I also have Debian Testing at home - it doesn't have
this problem at all.

I believe this is related to libsane (v1.0.25-4) being renamed to
libsane1 (v1.0.27-1) and then maybe something more have changed between
these versions. Note that 1.0.27 is actually still tagged as
experimental.

Can also confirm that setting SANE_USB_WORKAROUND variable fixes the
problem, however it is not a nice workaround and things should just work
out of the box.

[Bug 1684123] Re: bus: MMIO read of 00000000 FAULT at 3e6684 [ IBUS ]

2017-07-27 Thread Karolis
Confirm. I get the same message with the same number (3e6684) using
latest Debian testing with GeForce GTX 750 Ti:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX
750 Ti] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

I'm not using any proprietary drivers. My current xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau version is 1:1.0.15-2.

I've been getting this message for some months now during boot, only now
took a picture and tried to search online - this is the only place. This
message shows only for a blink of a second during boot, after filesystem
check, and then continues to boot normally. Haven't noticed any
misbehavior of GPU after machine has booted.

[Bug 1203853] [NEW] rfkill button does nothing on Samsung NP53U3C with Ubuntu raring

2013-07-22 Thread Karolis Labrencis
Public bug reported:

I'm using Samsung NP53U3C AMD-based ultrabook and the wireless/bluetooth
kill button (Fn+F12) does nothing. After some research I came to a
conclusion that there is a problem in udev, which does not know about
such key press (as seen in dmesg). The dmesg error shown below.

Steps to reproduce:
Press Fn+F12

Expected result:
Wireless and bluetooth turns on or off

Actual result:
This line in dmesg:
[65983.993398] atkbd serio0: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xd5
on isa0060/serio0).

[Bug 1166125] Re: Ubuntu (Xubuntu) 13.04 beta, broken fonts for Gtk based applications

2013-05-02 Thread Karolis
I don't know about fonts - it seems fine to me, but I have rather more serious
bug than fonts:
gtk application are not running at all! I didn't change anything since upgrade
(and a while before), I use gthumb and evince quite frequently I never had any
problems, but since upgrade both programs are not running at all, they don't
show up any temporary/permanently-hanged windows - nothing. running in terminal
shows this:

(gthumb:25574): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the
system
Trace/breakpoint trap

(evince:25547): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the
system
Trace/breakpoint trap

identical errors with echo $? = 133

---

And while writting this post - I found the sollution:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libglib2.0-0
and both programs run (thank me, google, luck the force :])

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-04-20 Thread Karolis
For a while I thought this bug has been solved, but here I am looking at
my $HOME forlder again. And what I see:

-rw--- 1 root root 103 Apr 20 10:39 .Xauthority
-rw-rw-r-- 1 user user 52 Apr 10 00:57 .Xauthority.2259UW

Now what is that second one? Reminds me of good old '.goutputstream-
2259UW'. Even size is the same 52bytes, even `strings
.Xauthority.2259UW` shows the same:

localhost-pc
MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1

One eye on strangeness, though i can't recall my actions on that
timestamp

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-10-15 Thread Karolis
ok, i've wrote a lot before while i was using presice (though i find it
not so useful), but now i'm testing quantal and here the sum of what
i've found - i have to excuse, because i didn't have enough time to dig
in to it:

it seems that goutputstream* files are not generated on every single
shutdown operation. however, it is being generated. i haven't inspected
the time of creation or the process of creation, sorry about that, but
in precise i have always had constantly same 52 bytes size
goutputstream* files containing the same bytes in all of them. the
difference were in the file name and that's it. however, in quantal i
see 0 bytes long goutputstream fiels. yet again i repeat - there is no
syncronization of file creation time to shutdown time, but it happens.

i promise to check it back again during the next 30 days if the bug is
still around, good luck guys;]

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-05-24 Thread Karolis
what is your lightdm version? mine 1.2.1
if i do `ps -ef | grep lightdm` while writing this post i get:

root 1108 1 0 May23 ?00:00:00 lightdm
root 15862 1108 4 May23 tty7 00:04:14 /usr/bin/X :0 -auth
/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch
root 15916 1108 0 May23 ?00:00:00 lightdm --session-child 12 25

there's already `--sesion-child` running as root. i couldn't find
documentation anything else that running `lightdm --session-child`
myself:

Usage: lightdm --session-child INPUTFD OUTPUTFD

it exits with value 1 if (argc != 4)
looking at source code of lightdm 1.2.1 those two integers stands for
from_deamon_output to_deamon_output

running `lightdm --test-mode` on pts gives me the same Xephyr requirement, but
running it on tty says:
Failed to get D-Bus connection

if i build ps tree `ps -ejH`:

PID PGID SID TTY TIME CMD
 1108 1108 1108 ?00:00:00 lightdm
 1163 1163 1163 tty7 00:06:39 Xorg
 1931 1108 1108 ?00:00:00 lightdm
 1962 1962 1962 ?00:00:00 sh
 1991 1991 1991 ?00:00:00 ssh-agent
 2008 1962 1962 ?00:00:00 xscreensaver
 2010 1962 1962 ?00:00:00 xfce4-session

which bring me back to questioning xauth. Xorg to be more specific. Don't know
why my gut says it's not lightdm..
Also - why last four processes goes under lightdm tree? from logic by process
name ok, but from parent pgid logic..?

(i'm writing this post offline. second day)
so i thought let's try good old `kill -9` and what i discovered - killing
lightdm doesn't do anything besides hanging the pc, but killing Xorg (in pts
hangs, in tty restarts gui interface in pts) and both ways killing Xorg creates
the file!

i have to bow to your knowledge. don't really have anything to add appart this
- what if Xorg has some troubles terminating and this returns a value to
lightdm causing lightdm to create a file? Or Xorg wants to create a file
through it's parent process - lightdm? (is that even possible?)
i don't think i'm gonna be useful here on. too quick for me to go this far

It was a bit unclear for me so I made extreemely short compare of processes
that are same in both files. The bug we're in so strange that i'm starting to
doubt it's lightdm issue. But highly suspected. It was one of these.
First collumn is Dennis, second mine. Notice, how lightdm was not present on
Dennis machine when file created, then it comes up and dissapears.
How do you know it runs with userid 1000? How to check it on my computer? User
cannot run lightdm unless --test-mode flag is on, or is there another way? Why
should it testmode itself on shutdown?

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-05-21 Thread Karolis
very nice Dennis ;)
definitely not specific to unity-greeter. xfce4-session on xubuntu12.04
produces this from Dennis script:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/999606/
really don't have the time now to dig into this but i'll check back with it
later in more detail

[Bug 870297] Re: Lightdm logins not being logged in wtmp

2012-05-21 Thread Karolis
i have this issue on xubuntu 12.04. lightdm version 1.2.1-0ubuntu1
i'm only half year old in linux world but in very beginning i remember being
very confused when who and w didn't produse output. didn't consider this as a
bug back then but more like un-fully-thought-about function or my lack of
experience. now finding that this is an actual bug i can only express some
positive wishing thoughts, as i am not as confident yet about getting involved
deeper into fixing it

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-05-12 Thread Karolis
nautilus/thunar/terminal doesn't matter where you view it. it does
not affect nautilus as currently states. more like systemic ubuntu stuff
here

i don't have dropbox, file roller, ubuntu one, nautilus (thunar for me).

`ls -al | grep goutput` gives me this:
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 9 16:34 .goutputstream-2KCWDW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 10 20:39 .goutputstream-AVK3DW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 10 02:45 .goutputstream-CAJ7DW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 7 00:22 .goutputstream-EXDSDW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 6 19:44 .goutputstream-FV9TDW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 10 04:28 .goutputstream-GZZYDW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 11 14:52 .goutputstream-L6OUDW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 9 15:57 .goutputstream-ODM4DW
-rw--- 1 mdm mdm51 May 8 14:25 .goutputstream-RYD1DW
which seems a lot like my computers startup times.. (or was it shutdowns?, i'll
check it sometime..)

if i run `strings` on any file i get:
hostname
MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1
sg]|

all the three lines are the same for all files. I would notice the DW on the
end of each file name. does it have something to do with doubleword?
before finding this bug report i was blaming gstreamer for making these files,
now i'm in doubt. i've had it all the time 12.04, beta 12.04 and 11.10, running
xubuntu, can't remember about ubuntu

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-05-12 Thread Karolis
really sorry for tripleposting, but on the fly bug research lead me to
this:

the bug is related to X Window authorization or xauth
according to wikipedia a cookie based access:
These cookies are created by a separate program and stored in the file
.Xauthority in the user's home directory, by default.
if i run `strings .Xauthority` i get almost the same as in .goutputstream*DW:
3 identical lines (check two posts up)
2 lines that repeats the first two

question remains - how do these .Xauthority get's partially duplicated
into bunch of .goutputstream* on every shutdown?

[Bug 985949] Re: Purple line appears on the external monitor after it is turned off and back on

2012-04-20 Thread Karolis
I have tested this with 3.4.0-rc3 kernel and the problem is still
present.

It might be worth noting that purple line first appears during splash
sequence, then disappears at login screen and is not there after logging
in until the monitor is turned off and back on (I use 'xset dpms force
off' for testing).

[Bug 985949] [NEW] Purple line appears on the external monitor after it is turned off and back on

2012-04-19 Thread Karolis
Public bug reported:

I have an external LED monitor connected to my laptop via HDMI. When I
first log in everything seems to be fine, but when the monitor turns off
due to inactivity and then turns back on, I see 2 pixel wide purple line
on the left side (photo attached).

I got the same issue when I tried upgrading kernel to 3.2 in Ubuntu
11.10

The same happens in Unity 2D and 3D, so I don't think it's a Unity
problem. It's probably either kernel or intel driver.

Another workaround is to switch your primary display from laptop screen
to external monitor/TV by moving laptop to the right in display
settings, since left screen is always default in Unity. When you do
that, you can turn off the laptop screen http://i.imgur.com/ZD8YE.png

[Bug 776271] [NEW] empathy does not connect to Google Talk after waking laptop up from sleep

2011-05-03 Thread Karolis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

1) Release: 11.04
2) empathy 2.34.0-0ubuntu3
3) After my laptop wakes up, it automatically reconnects to the wireless
network, and empathy reconnects to Facebook Chat and Google Talk services.
4) All of the above happens, except empathy never connects to Google Talk, but
it keeps trying.

I tried restarting empathy by doing 'killall empathy', but that didn't
help. Empathy has always been very fluky, but I never had this
particular problem before.

[Bug 776271] Re: empathy does not connect to Google Talk after waking laptop up from sleep

2011-05-03 Thread Karolis
I could connect, by using instructions found here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/8696/cannot-connect-to-google-talk-using-
empathy-pidgin-after-upgrading

   1. Add Google Talk account
   2. Login ID: usern...@gmail.com
   3. Password: **
   4. [x] Encryption required (TLS/SSL)
   5. [x] Ignore SSL certificate errors
   6. Resource:
   7. Priority: 0
   8. Server: talk.google.com
   9. Port: 443
  10. [x] Use old SSL

Though, I want to EMPHASIZE, that I can connect to gtalk with the
default settings after fresh boot up, only after sleeping and waking up
it stops working.

However, with the new settings it seems I can also connect after waking
up.

[Bug 453381] Re: Gwibber shows up twice in indicator-applet

2010-12-21 Thread Karolis
I have the same issue on 2 separate instances of 10.10

Workaround provided by Matt Wolfgang seems to work. Though what it does
is removes Broadcast from indicator-applet completely, but when you
start gwibber, it appears fine.

[Bug 387625] Re: DeprecationWarning: socket.ssl() is deprecated. Use ssl.wrap_socket() instead

2010-01-24 Thread Karolis
I've tried every possible install/reinstall scenario and every single
fix that I could find - nothing helped.

Then I simply renamed ~/.miro to ~/.miro-backup and the program launched
just fine. So I have copied sqlitedb from backup to working dir and it
works just fine.
