[Bug 451880] Re: Poor splash image quality (high banding)
Unfortunately, they would not be able to fix the current background as is, they'd probably have to redo it with the original files and change it just enough so that the gradients are a bit more different, or this problem will still exist. If you put two colours which are too close together and spread them out, it'll create this effect (the higher the resolution and more pixels in-between, the worse this effect gets). I often have to be careful when designing website banners or backgrounds because of this. In the case where a person sees banding in one monitor vs another, is not necessarily because of the monitor quality itself, but the resolution that the each one is set to, or which background is grabbed and stretched (or resized down). -- Poor splash image quality (high banding) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 451880] Re: Poor splash image quality (high banding)
I suspect its the default backgrounds themselves actually. if you go to /usr/share/images/xsplash and open up the background for your resolution, you can then check the image in full screen (by hitting f11). I noticed that the full screen image for my resolution was not the best of quality even within Ubuntu. I suspect that they tried to lower the filesize somehow which may or may not have caused a bit of quality degradation. Either that or they stretched the original to match higher resolutions which caused the effect that most people are noticing. If you go to the Internet and find a background with your resolution (in my case, 1680x1050) and replace the one in the xsplash folder, restart, the image quality is perfect. -- Poor splash image quality (high banding) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 131227] Re: notification-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()
This has been occurring for me since its been introduced. I can easily confirm this.. ubuntu theme or default one. Though, when I do click it a second time (After the crash message) it works. -- notification-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131227 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 298455] Re: 8.10: Broadcom 4306 detection at first boot
Hmm... Wait, so these are not fwcutter. I take it though that they are not allowed anyway. An excerpt from the originating website. Extract the contents of the zip file into /lib/firmware/ - thats all there is to it, the rest should just work. Fwcutter is NOT required to use this - these files have already been extracted. Note: I provide these firmware files in good faith, however there is ABSOLUTELY NO SUPPORT from Broadcom, since while it's identical firmware to that provided on their download site, it's been seperated from the Windows driver and installer to make them easier to use on Linux -- 8.10: Broadcom 4306 detection at first boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 298455] Re: 8.10: Broadcom 4306 detection at first boot
Ahhh... http://www.omattos.com/broadcom/b43-all-fw.tar.gz Judging by the filename, it seems to be fwcutter. *sigh* Its a shame as all thats needed is to sudo move them into the folder. Thanks for the reply. -- 8.10: Broadcom 4306 detection at first boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 298455] [NEW] 8.10: Broadcom 4306 detection at first boot
Public bug reported: Though not sure if this is an actual bug or if its meant to be this way (or if something can be done about it)... I have 3 laptops with Broadcom 4306 for wireless and I cannot connect to the internet out of the box. There is nothing visible in the hardware driver section (on all laptops, different models), and I do not have an extra wired connection available. To get my wireless working, I have to copy certain files over to the lib/firmware/*-generic/. After this point, my wireless works and things are fine, and only after this point, do I see Broadcom B43 Wireless Driver (Not Activated) in my Hardware Drivers. Activating it does not change anything, as at that point my wireless works already. My questions, whether or not this is supposed to happen? On my laptops, would I need to do this every time? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 8.10: Broadcom 4306 detection at first boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
