[Bug 1267749] Re: curlftps became very slow after upgrade to 13.10.

2017-02-06 Thread kevinf
It is fixed in the latest packages in 16.04 Xenial, I hit an upgrade
wall myself, so I was forced to unhold the package.

This is what I currently have installed:

root@brix:~# dgrep libcurl
ii libcurl3:amd64 7.47.0-1ubuntu2.2
   amd64easy-to-use client-side URL transfer library
(OpenSSL flavour)
ii libcurl3-gnutls:amd647.47.0-1ubuntu2.2
   amd64easy-to-use client-side URL transfer library
(GnuTLS flavour)
ii python3-pycurl 7.43.0-1ubuntu1
amd64Python bindings to libcurl (Python 3)

[Bug 1301015] Re: Networking does not restart

2014-07-08 Thread kevinf
It seems this was actually changed as of Ubuntu Saucy 13.10, as restart
--system networking and /etc/init.d/networking both failed...

At this point, its faster/reliable to reboot my machine (10 seconds),
than it is to open a terminal, and ifdown --exclude=lo -a sudo ifup
--exclude=lo -a. init.d has always worked, including the many
custom embedded Linux machines I develop for.

At least a better error message must be shown in the init.d output.

Solved!
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=176334pid=1591001#pid1591001

Its libcurl3-gnutls to blame

Raring: 7.29.0-1ubuntu3.4
Saucy: 7.32.0-1ubuntu1.4

Downgrading solves the problem.

[Bug 1267749] Re: curlftps became very slow after upgrade to 13.10.

2014-05-23 Thread kevinf
/etc/fstab
curlftpfs#ftp://u:p@server /mnt/mount fuse defaults 0 0

Directory listing is extremely slow on Ubuntu 13.10, this is on a local
lan.

Using the same server on my Ubuntu 13.04 is WAY faster.

note: my raring AND saucy machines are running:
ii curlftpfs 0.9.2-5ubuntu1

It is not a bandwidth issue, as cd /mnt/mount dd if=/dev/zero
of=test.me

eg:
On raring, I dd, count to 3, then Ctrl+C, it terminates and transfered 3
seconds worth @ 10MB/s.
On Saucy, I Ctrl+C after 3 seconds, it hangs, and reports 0 bytes of transfer.
If I count to 10, it also reports 10MB/s, but only 5 seconds of transfer time.

perhaps its fuse to blame?

raring: ii fuse
2.9.0-1ubuntu3 amd64Filesystem in Userspace
saucy: ii fuse 2.9.2-4ubuntu3
 amd64Filesystem in Userspace

So I downgraded my saucy machine to libfuse2/fuse @ 2.9.0-1ubuntu3,
umounted my share, remount. Same problem.

What else to try?

[Bug 1214779] Re: Broken dependencies: could not find a Qt installation of ''

2014-02-15 Thread kevinf
Yes, the 'moc' package installs 'mocp' an audio player, which is
confusing, but unrelated to the error message.

'moc' is a QT development tool in qt4, which is normally found in the
binary 'moc'

in qt5, they introduced qtchooser and symlinked moc - qtchooser..

try running the following:
qtchooser -list-versions

The problem is, you dont have any QT actually installed... solution:
apt-get install qt4-default

Run this again:
qtchooser -list-versions

should now report a bunch of versions including qt4, 4, default

I too am trying to install makemkv, but this is a much broader problem
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=895149

(for others having problems, you could technically install 'qt5-default'
instead, but I doubt many packages actually build against qt5 yet)

[Bug 253422] Re: Realtek ALC883 speakers don't mute when headphones plugged in

2008-10-21 Thread Kevinf
I was using 6stack-dig as a workaround the way i mentioned above. Now i use:
options snd-hda-intel model=targa-2ch-dig
(or targa-dig)
And it works the way it should! (the speakers mute when i plug headphones, and
headphones work)
But i have to be sure that in the parameters of the HDA intel mixer
headphones is checked.
My laptop is MSI, so it might not be the same fix for everybody..

http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt
search for ALC883/888 and try different models.

[Bug 253422] Re: Realtek ACL883 speakers don't mute when headphones plugged in

2008-08-13 Thread Kevinf
I forgot to mention that the headphones volume was not changing
anything, however the main and PCM volumes were modifying the headphones
and speakers volumes at the same time.

A little workaround to have only headphones working, put:
options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig
at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
reboot
then in the tool to control the volume, go in parameters and uncheck
headphones (checking/unchecking will change what is working:
speakers/headphones), that did it for me.

same thing in hardy. no snes9x-opengl and full screen doesn't work as
well, would be nice to have a snes emulator with opengl...
