[Bug 1759354] Re: 18.04 After suspend fan goes to max speed on resume, have to reset in bios

2018-05-03 Thread Kristofer
This problem seems to have returned with 18.04 LTS. I left the laptop
plugged in and charging and closed the lid. When I opened it several
hours later the fan went to maximum speed and has been there since. It
doesn't matter if I boot into Windows 10, the fan is still on max. If
someone can tell me what logs would be useful I can get them.

2018-04-04 Thread Kristofer
I just re-tested on 4.15.0-13-generic suspending by closing the lid and
by Automatic Suspend in the Power settings and upon resume there is no
problem, so it seems to have been fixed.

[Bug 1759354] [NEW] 18.04 After suspend fan goes to max speed on resume, have to reset in bios

2018-03-27 Thread Kristofer
Public bug reported:

I installed 18.04 on my Thinkpad X260. When I closed the lid it
suspended. Opened the lid and the fan went to maximum. I shut down and
booted into Windows 10 (dual boot machine) and the fan was still at
maximum. I had to reset BIOS to defaults, so it looks like Ubuntu is
still messing up the BIOS settings, at least on the X260.

Ubuntu is up to date as of 2018/03/27.

[Bug 438318] Re: [karmic] no sound on toshiba nb205

2010-04-06 Thread Kristofer Henriksson
Pietro,

What I've taken to doing is using the official Lucid kernel, currently
found here http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/linux-
image-2.6.32-19-generic and downloadable from any of the mirrors here
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/i386/linux-
image-2.6.32-19-generic/download.

I don't know of any reason that this kernel should cause a problem on
upgrade, since it is in fact the proper Lucid kernel. My recommendation
is to just download the deb file, double click on it, and click through
any warnings to just install it via GDebi (I don't remember the exact
sequence off the top of my head, but it should be straightforward). If
you're worried about it you can always uninstall it via Synaptic and
then restart before upgrading to Lucid.

This unfortunately isn't something you can get by changing the
repositories because then all of the Lucid packages would come along
with it, but the package manager is still aware of the package and can
uninstall it cleanly the same as any other.

With luck, the necessary changes will be backported to the Karmic kernel
and show up sometime soon. (Please?)

The problem is in the kernel and has nothing to do with pulseaudio. The
instructions in #56 should be ignored because they will not fix the
problem. The comment is off-topic.

I decided to skip LIRC altogether by disabling it in make menuconfig
(Ubuntu Supplied Third-Party Device Drivers -- LIRC device support)

Here is my investigation regarding the matter:

Looking around the directory
~/linux/linux-2.6.31/drivers/media/video/bt8xx/
btcx-risc.h indeed doesn't exist.

However, btcx-risc.h resides a directory level higher, in
~/linux/linux-2.6.31/drivers/media/video/

Will copying btcx-risc.h to the bt8xx directory eliminate the compile
problems presented by LIRC?

[Bug 412607] [NEW] CD playback skipping

2009-08-12 Thread Kristofer Bergstrom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

When playing back a CD in the CDROM drive, every 12-13 seconds, Sound
Juicer seems to skip approximately 3 seconds of audio. For example,
audio will play fine from 0:00 to 0:12 with the elapsed time counter at
the bottom left counting smoothly. Then audio will drop out for a few
seconds, the counter will pause, and resume at 0:15.
