Thanks for the patch! Just two questions:

1. why does rpcbind not listen to UDP any more?
2. have you noticed that a similar problem exists in rpc.statd?

[Bug 1430181] [NEW] rpcbind/rpc.statd listen on all interfaces

2015-03-10 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

There is no way to prevent rpcbind from listening on all interfaces for
TCP connections. The setting -h only applies to UDP connections. There
is a bug and fix from 2007:

https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=84494

The link to the fix gives a 404 for me, but it probably is in their VCS.

How to reproduce:

1. install rpcbind
2. in /etc/default/rpcbind:

OPTIONS=$OPTIONS -h 192.168.255.1

3. restart rpcbind

root@node1 ~ # netstat -lnp | grep rpcbind
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:111 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
8982/rpcbind
tcp6   0  0 :::111  :::*LISTEN
8982/rpcbind
udp0 0 192.168.255.1:111 0.0.0.0:*
8982/rpcbind
udp0 0 127.0.0.1:111 0.0.0.0:*
8982/rpcbind
udp0 0 0.0.0.0:677 0.0.0.0:*
8982/rpcbind
udp6   0  0 ::1:111 :::*
8982/rpcbind
udp6   0  0 :::677  :::*
8982/rpcbind

The same applies to rpc.statd: even when supplying the

-n, --name ipaddr | hostname
Specifies the bind address used for RPC listener sockets.

option, it still listens on all interfaces, while '--outgoing-port' and
'--port' work as expected:

/etc/default/nfs-common:
STATDOPTS=--name 192.168.255.1 --port 32765 --outgoing-port 32766

root@node1 ~ # netstat -lnp | grep rpc.statd

8988/rpc.statd

[Bug 1393915] [NEW] uuidgen --random requires an argument

2014-11-18 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

The man page of 'uuidgen' reports the options -r and --random as
equivalent:

   -r, --random
Generate a random-based UUID. This method creates a UUID
consisting mostly of random
bits. It requires that the operating system have a high
quality random number genera‐
  tor, such as /dev/random.

But --random requires an argument:

kurt@rodin:~$ uuidgen -r
4aca676a-a3f1-4217-a35d-031c376c6274
kurt@rodin:~$ uuidgen --random
uuidgen: option '--random' requires an argument

I wander if this bug is related to (can I provide wikilink
 between..?):

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/musescore/+bug/1284273

I'm not saying they are duplicates or confirming this one. I'm a little
 new to this (sound problems).

Did you have no sound straight after upgrading from 13.10? Is that it or
maybe something in between as installing some program, musescore or
 otherwise?

[Bug 1133477] Re: cut-n-paste move files got stuck forever

2013-12-13 Thread Kurt Huwig
I have the same issue when copying several dozens of GB from an FTP
server via 100MBit: there is a dialog preparing to move with a
progress bar that moves slowly while the files are moved. I'd prefer a
dialog like the one when the files are copied which indicates how much
work has been done already.

[Bug 1252673] [NEW] file-roller registers for Java jar files, although Java is installed

2013-11-19 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

During an upgrade of file-roller, it tried to change
/etc/gnome/default.list to place itself for the handling of Java jar
files instead of Java:

-application/x-jar=openjdk-7-java.desktop
-application/x-java-archive=openjdk-7-java.desktop
+application/x-jar=file-roller.desktop
+application/x-java-archive=file-roller.desktop

This will break the execution of executable jar files.

In the mysql.conf-bug_1210380.patch, the explanation for the kill

 kill timeout 300

[Bug 1121874] Re: MySQL launch fails silently if 4MB of disk space is available

2013-04-18 Thread Kurt Huwig
I cannot see a difference with

ii mysql-server-5.5 5.5.29-0ubuntu0.12.04.2 MySQL database server
binaries and system database setup

As I have too much disk space on my test machine, I've changed the code
to check for much more space but left the rest untouched:

LC_ALL=C BLOCKSIZE= df --portability /var/lib/mysql/. | tail -n 1 |
awk '{ exit ($440960) }'

The result is that the start of mysql fails, but there are no new
logentries (I truncated all files before starting mysql):

root@mysql:~# service mysql start
start: Job failed to start
root@mysql:~# ls -l /var/log/mysql/error.log /var/log/mysql* /var/log/syslog

[Bug 1164336] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.2.0/fs/btrfs/transaction.c:1337!

2013-04-04 Thread Kurt Huwig
The problem is triggered because the size of the logical volume has been
decreased from 700G to 1G (instead of increased to 1T - my fault). Still
this should not cause a kernel BUG. After the BUG I was unable to umount
the volume or reboot the machine - I had to hard-reset it.

[Bug 1163905] [NEW] Backport-Request: Failure in Duply's pre-scripts are muted

2013-04-03 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

This happens in precise:

If you create a Duply pre-script which reads

exit 1

then a run of duply srv pre will give

--- Start running command PRE at 12:58:29.630 ---
Running '/root/.duply/srv/pre' - FAILED (code 1)
--- Finished state OK at 12:58:29.638 - Runtime 00:00:00.008 ---
root@nas:~# echo $?
0

So there is no easy way to detect a failure of the pre script and the
same applies to post. This has already been fixed upstream and I'll
attach a patch that fixes this issue. With the patch applied, the
outcome is

--- Start running command PRE at 13:02:03.643 ---
Running '/root/.duply/srv/pre' - FAILED (code 1)
13:02:03.652 Task 'PRE' failed with exit code '1'.
--- Finished state FAILED 'code 1' at 13:02:03.652 - Runtime 00:00:00.009 ---

[Bug 1126233] [NEW] libapache2-mod-rpaf has wrong name in conf file

2013-02-15 Thread Kurt Huwig

[Bug 1123950] [NEW] /etc/init.d/stud restart does not start the daemon

2013-02-13 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

I guess it is a race condition, as

/etc/init.d/stud stop; /etc/init.d/stud start

shows the same problem while adding a sleep 1 before the call to
do_start fixes the problem.

There is also a (unrelated) bug in the function do_stop(): there is a
variable

notfound=1

but it is not set to 0 in the for loop (as is the case in 'do_start').
This causes the return value to be 1:

[ $notfound -eq 1 ] return 1

But this has nothing to do with the restart problem as both return
values 0 and 1 are in the same case statement, so no difference to
program flow.

[Bug 1121874] [NEW] MySQL launch fails silently if 4MB of disk space is available

2013-02-11 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

MySQL will not launch if less than 4MB of disk space is available:

/etc/init/mysql.conf:

This behaviour is OK, but it should not stop silently but report an
error message so that the admin knows why it did not start.

[Bug 1036093] [NEW] nova volume-attach with high device name keeps volume in state attaching

2012-08-13 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

If I attach a volume to a high device name, e.g. /dev/vdm

nova volume-attach f91e2097-5e2f-47df-90ea-f6da292df41b 4072 /dev/vdm

then nothing happens within the instance and the volume is in the state
attaching. According to the logs the iscsi attach works and the lv is
in use by tgt. After that, I am unable to detach the volume or shutdown
the instance. The first device that causes the problem is /dev/vdk which
means the first 10 letters a-j are working fine.

Hi Adam,

yes, I had devstack installed. This is the output from your command:

$ python -c 'import webob.exc'
Traceback (most recent call last):
File string, line 1, in module
ImportError: No module named webob.exc

I purged python-webob (and everything else from nova), removed
/etc/nova/ and then reinstalled nova-common. Now it works fine. Thanks
for your help!

configuration is read later in line 1376.

I attached a patch that moves reading of the local configuration before
the call to rsh_command, which fixes the problem for me.

Depending on the local configuration, this might be a security problem,
as the wrong remote configuration is used.

[Bug 824630] [NEW] invalid gd2 images

2011-08-11 Thread Kurt Huwig
Public bug reported:

At least some gd2 images are invalid and cannot be used for the Nagios
statusmap. I found this image to be invalid:

/usr/share/nagios3/htdocs/images/logos/base/ubuntu.gd2

which can be fixed by recreating the gd2 from the png:

pngtogd2 ubuntu.png ubuntu.gd2 4096 2

I did not check the other gd2 files, but the fallback file

/usr/share/nagios3/htdocs/images/logos/unknown.gd2

is correct.

The impact is, that in the Nagios status map you will see a ? - which
is the content of unknown.gd2 - whenever an invalid gd2 file is used.

I had the same problem and I was able to fix it by removing this file:

which is a link to Acrobat Reader 9:
