[Bug 942873] [NEW] Totem causes logout when playing mp3/videos with dual monitor and fglrx Drivers

2012-02-28 Thread Kyle M Weller
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

When you have a dual monitor setup in Ubuntu Precise and attempt to
launch a video on either Monitor 1 or 2, upon playing a video it crashes
X and logs out out

Here is a pastebin of the relevent crash on dmesg:
http://pastebin.com/Au0EaTE3

Here is a pastebin of my xorg.conf: http://pastebin.com/AaD1jmA2

I do have ubuntu-restricted-extras installed, and this happens playing
any video or audio in totem, also ive seen it happen in banshee and vlc,
I had to turn of hardware accelerated rendering for it to play.

Is there an xorg.conf setting I can change to fix this? I used amdcccle
to generate my xorg.conf. With dual monitor disabled this bug doesnt
happen.

Feel free to reassign this to the appropriate area

[Bug 661450] Re: Support for multiple monitors broken

2011-04-19 Thread Kyle M Weller
This effects me with Ubuntu Natty latest updates as of 4/19/2011 @ 10:41PM
I have no unity/gnome panel and just a desktop with right click abilities, to
remedy this issue I must install unity 2d so I can view fullscreen videos on my
samsung tv. Enabling unity2d however does not enable the gnome panel or unity
gnome panel.

This is setup as a seperate X session on a EVGA Nvidia GeForce 9600GT

Unity only works on one monitor and fullscreen video does not work

this issue persists in the latest ubuntu 11.04 natty beta, with two

able to re-establish a connection. Can you all confirm this as well?

[Bug 284242] [NEW] Intrepid Ibex: Other User Login Password works with New User

2008-10-16 Thread Kyle M Weller
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Woah this is a big security issue, I dont know how this happened but
basically I deleted user defcon on my system and created a user ionstorm
and ionstorm can login with defcon's password as well as ionstorm's

I am able to login with both user passwords on 1 account, all I did was
go into edit users/groups and delete user defcon and ionstorm can login
with both passwords.

The only thing that may help solve this is that I have ecryptfs-setup-
private installed, this may have caused the issue, how do I submit
information with my passwords being secure?

This means that you're trying to unwrap the mount passphrase with the
wrong login password. You might try both your current, and your new
password, or any other that you might have used.

When you can unwrap your mount passphrase successfully, you should be
 able to perform the mount.

In the case that you are not able to unwrap your passphrase, you should
have recorded it somewhere. If you setup your Encrypted Private Directory
in the installer, there was an installation screen that said:

There is no way to recover this passphrase if you lose it. To avoid
losing data, you should normally write down the passphrase and keep it
in a safe place separate from this computer.
.
Your new encryption passphrase is as follows:
${PASSPHRASE}
Please write this down and store it separately from this computer.

Or, if you used 'ecryptfs-setup-private' to setup your ~/Private
 directory, it said:

YOU SHOULD RECORD THIS MOUNT PASSPHRASE AND STORE IN A SAFE LOCATION:
${PASSPHRASE}
THIS WILL BE REQUIRED IF YOU NEED TO RECOVER YOUR DATA AT A LATER TIME.

If ecryptfs cannot unwrap the passphrase, it cannot perform the mount

Looking at the system log, it says:

[Bug 283477] [NEW] ecryptfs-utils does not handle changing password

2008-10-14 Thread Kyle M Weller
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

I recently changed my login password via:
passwd defcon
changed password
rebooted
Logged in and I get no private directory
I then tried ecryptfs-rewrap-passphrase ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase oldpass
newpass and rebooted and still no go, what can I do to recover my data??
Thanks

I also get this error:

your kernel keyring and then mount with:
  $ ecryptfs_insert_wrapped_passphrase_into_keyring
 ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase LOGIN_PASSWORD
  $ mount.ecryptfs_private
  $ ls ~/Private

To fix this for your next boot, you may need to:
  $ ecryptfs_rewrap_passphrase ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase

The PAM password change module has been hooked by pam_ecryptfs, so all

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-10-12 Thread Kyle M Weller
The sensitivity on this driver needs to be optimized as well

** Description changed:

I have a ASUS P5K motherboard with integrated wireless based on rtl8187.
In Hardy (haven't tried other Ubuntu versions) the connection often
suddenly fails, with the software not noticing anything.

Nothing is logged in dmesg or syslog except for (sometimes): WEP decrypt
failed (ICV)
I have noticed this string also appears in the log at times when the
interface does _not_ fail.

The computer continues on oblivious to the fact that it has just lost
its network connection (networkmanager is not installed, but gnome's
network monitor applet indicates a good connection). In fact, a
wireshark dump indicates that the computer still thinks it is sending
802.11 frames, but monitoring from another computer (with a reliable
wireless driver) indicates that nothing is being sent from the affected
computer, even while the AP is chugging along trying to contact a host
which has mysteriously dropped offline. I have noticed this problem
across kernel images (2.6.24-3-generic and 2.6.24-4-generic to be
specific). In one instance, I found that modprobing the module out and
back in again fixed it, while another time this caused modprobe to use
100% CPU and become unresponsive, even to kill signals (Yeah, the kill
  -9 kind).

If any more information is necessary please ask and I'll do my best.
+
+ This also effects Intrepid Ibex/2.6.27-7-generic

[Bug 279185] [NEW] Allow Custom Pre-Up Commands in the New Network Manager 0.7

Ok what I propose is create an additional field in network manager, like

ability to change the mac as well. Im thinking this is a very useful

[Bug 203477] Re: [hardy] 2WIRE Wireless USB Dongle (prism based) does not work in Ubuntu

2008-03-27 Thread Kyle M Weller
Your wrong, it is actually a Z-Com prism2 device, I can go in winblows
and load any prism2 driver after changing just the usb device id in
the drivers and any of the prism devices load, imagine that. So id like
to experiment by finding the source of the driver for ubuntu hardy and
change the device id in the source, if it works I'll let you know, im
pretty sure it will, this device is prism2, and works with aircrack-ng
for winblows in monitor mode after I just change the id

[Bug 203477] Re: [hardy] 2WIRE Wireless USB Dongle (prism based) does not work in Ubuntu

2008-03-27 Thread Kyle M Weller
Its a re-branded unknown usb device that all they did was change the
device id, these drivers work for the card, all I do is change the
device id to match so it loads:

USB Adapters Tested and Working :

NETGEAR WG121 (1st. Generation Fullmac) USB ID: VID 0846 PID 4210
DLINK DWL-G120(1st. Generation Fullmac) USB ID: VID 2001 PID 3701
NETGEAR WG111 version 1 R1(1st. Generation Fullmac) USB ID: VID 0846 PID 4220

NETGEAR WG111 version 1 R2(1st. Generation Softmac) USB ID: VID 0846 PID
4240

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0cde:0006 Z-Com Medion 40900 802.11b Adapter
The above are prism based cards, all I do is change the device id in the
windows drivers and it loads as prism just fine ie:
I changed USB\Vid_0cdePid_0006 to USB\Vid_1630Pid_0005 which is my device id
and the prism driver loads and works fine

PRISMIOC.txt indicates that it is an Intersil branded chipset, formerly
www.globespanvirata.com it also says:
PRISM Wireless LAN
ProductVersion
1.00.06.0097
Which indicates it is a prism based card
Arent older prism based cards implemented in the kernel? If so please let
someone upstream know about this
I have provided a ndiswrapper howto for the public with issues with this card:
http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008/02/howto-setup-2wire-80211g-wireless-usb.html
But since prism is supported people shouldnt need to use ndiswrapper!

[Bug 203477] [NEW] 2WIRE Prism Based Chipset Does not work in Ubuntu

2008-03-18 Thread Kyle M Weller
Public bug reported:

Ok This card works perfectly with ndiswrapper, but this is a prism based
chipset, I have done some windows driver hacking and dug all around the
web to find a linux driver for this 2WIRE USB Adapter. Here is what I
have found that may help the developers implement this card so the
thousands of Linux users that have 2WIRE Products can use these cards.
I have provided a lsusb -vvv and the original windows drivers and
strings that are in the drivers that prove that the card is indeed Prism
based.

2008-03-13 Thread Kyle M Weller
ok, all u do is boot your live cd and open a terminal, wget
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/glibc/libc6_2.7-5ubuntu2_i386.deb
then mount your ubuntu drive whichever that is, it may be here:/media/disk-1 or
something or another, open a terminal and then dpkg -x
libc6_2.7-5ubuntu2_i386.deb /media/drivewhereubuntu is already installed then
reboot

[Bug 185523] Re: Bootchart - no chart

2008-03-11 Thread Kyle M Weller
6-03-0ubuntu2 did not fix the issue, what I did was remove 6-04-0ubuntu2 and I
also removed all kernels except 1 kernel and removed bootchart, then
reinstalled, and it does not log to /var/log/bootchart/*
Here is my apt-cache policy sun-java6-bin
sun-java6-bin:
  Installed: 6-03-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 6-04-2
  Version table:
 6-04-2 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages
 *** 6-03-0ubuntu2 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Any idea why I cannot get this started?
Thanks!
Kyle
