[Bug 2055474] [NEW] The frequencies are way off

2024-02-29 Thread László Monda
Public bug reported:

I'm using the gqrx-sdr-2.15.8-1build1 package, and the frequencies are
way off. See
https://groups.google.com/g/gqrx/c/KaRKOrARX6Y/m/ZfCFkjb2AwAJ for more
information.

I've just installed Gqrx-2.17.4-x86_64.AppImage from GitHub releases,
and the frequencies are completely accurate now.

[Bug 932882] Re: Update of a printer driver package does not update the PPD files of the existing queues for this driver

2012-11-26 Thread László Monda
Got it after upgrading to Linux Mint 14 Nadia (based on Ubuntu 12.10
Quantal Quetzal).

After executing sudo apt-get install --reinstall printer-driver-
gutenprint and reconfiguring my printer now I get stopped, Filter
failed upon every one of my print attempts. Currently I cannot print.

Please mark this bug at least of High importance as it completely breaks
printing upon system upgrades. This is exactly the kind of bug that
drives newcomer Linux users away for life (and rightly so).

[Bug 673021] Re: Graphviz version should be upgraded for Lucid

2012-11-26 Thread László Monda
At this time of writing (2012-11-27) Graphviz 2.26.3 is featured in
Quantal. This Graphviz version was released on 2010-01-26, almost 3
years ago!

Currently the most recent Graphviz release is 2.28.0, released on
2011-05-06. I had to upgrade because of a missing feature from the debs
offered on the Graphviz homepage which was doable but painful due to the
conflicts that I had to resolve.

Please update the Importance of this ticket - This is certainly a
pressing issue.

[Bug 1069903] Re: Different Binary Name in 12.04 and 12.10

2012-11-17 Thread László Monda
I think this is a huge mess with a long history - see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2012/07/msg2.html

The nodejs package should definitely contain the node binary because
node libraries depend on it. Does anyone argue that?

Why has this change happened?

Thomas,

I'm glad my script finally worked for you. Given that my script uses
ACPI through sysfs I'm not surprised to see that ACPI-related kernel
tweaking can mess it up.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2012-06-02 Thread László Monda
Hey guys,

I've just written an Upstart job that you can find at
https://github.com/mondalaci/screen-brightness-upstart-job

It makes Ubuntu remember the screen brightness level across reboots. I
think something like this would be great to be integrated into Ubuntu by
default.

Please give it a try and let me know what you think.

[Bug 352732] Re: Sound muted after boot

2012-05-27 Thread László Monda
Minor correction: In my previous comment I erroneously wrote
/etc/init/alsa-{re}store.conf instead of /etc/init/alsa-{re}store.

In the meantime I commented out the load-module module-device-restore
line in /etc/pulse/default.pa according to #77. Unlike for others it
didn't fix the issue for me.

It's also important to mention that sometimes the volume level gets
restored correctly and other times it doesn't so this issue seems too be
non-deterministic.

At this point I'm not sure what the culprit is. Given that alsactl gets
called by Upstart this seems like it's an ALSA issue but PulseAudio
related tweaks resolved this issue for some which suggests me that it
may be a PulseAudio issue.

I've just reported https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-
bug/view.php?id=5586 to the ALSA bugtracker.

[Bug 352732] Re: Sound muted after boot

2012-05-17 Thread László Monda
It's a 3 years old bug which really should have been fixed by now.
Instead of using workarounds I'd like to understand what's the root
cause of the issue and get it fixed.

I've done as written in #63 to track this down and got:

2012-05-15 01:51:58 Running alsactl store
2012-05-15 12:11:28 Running alsactl restore
2012-05-15 12:11:28 Running alsactl restore 1
2012-05-15 12:11:28 Running alsactl restore 0
[muted and manually corrected]
2012-05-16 04:21:32 Running alsactl store
2012-05-16 15:01:49 Running alsactl restore
2012-05-16 15:01:49 Running alsactl restore 1
2012-05-16 15:01:49 Running alsactl restore 0
[muted and manually corrected]
2012-05-17 03:27:04 Running alsactl store
2012-05-17 12:41:22 Running alsactl restore 1
2012-05-17 12:41:22 Running alsactl restore 0
2012-05-17 12:41:22 Running alsactl restore
[muted and manually corrected]

According to /etc/init/alsa-restore.conf and /etc/init/alsa-store.conf
instead of restore 1, restore 0 and restore only restore should
be executed, right?

If anyone has any idea about the above or about the root cause of this
issue please don't hesitate to share. This is a disturbing sucker that
should be eliminated.

[Bug 982803] [NEW] Alert volume is set to zero by default

2012-04-16 Thread László Monda
Public bug reported:

Upon installing Ubuntu 11.10 the default alert volume is set to zero.
Before realizing this I was trying to figure out why I cannot hear any
notification sound in Skype and that was the reason. The alert volume

(I'm not completely sure whether it's a problem of the pulseaudio
package but that's my best guess.)

[Bug 708286] Re: Resume after suspend not working - Toshiba Tecra R700

2011-05-14 Thread László Monda
Resume from suspend was being broken on my laptop for about half a year.
I've just found the http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=782782
thread and written the following script which works like a charm.

#!/bin/bash
gnome-screensaver-command -l
sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force

I'm currently running Natty and using the radeon driver. Hope this
helps someone.

[Bug 727660] Re: The panel encountered a problem while loading... on a live session

2011-05-12 Thread László Monda
Sorry for stating marking the duplicates before - I've just noticed
that it's automatically taken care by Launchpad.

I read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEApplets but I don't have a
clue how to debug this one because it clearly seems a race condition as
others have suggested.

By the way, in my situation this has happened with the User Switch
Applet, with the Multiload Applet, and with the Window List applet.
It's not deterministic and happens once in a while, about every fourth
time upon session startup. This clearly doesn't seem to be applet-
specific but rather more general purpose, related to the GNOME panel
applet framework / architecture.

[Bug 780982] [NEW] Problem with loading IndicatorAppletFactory::IndicatorApplet

2011-05-11 Thread László Monda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

On the regular start of my computer I got an error about the
IndicatorAppletFactory::IndicatorApplet.  See the attached screenshot
for details.

Please be aware that the exact same bug has been already reported by
someone else at http://www.mailrepository.com/ubuntu-
bugs.lists.ubuntu.com/msg/3689105/

The related bug however cannot be seen in Launchpad because its
visibility has been set to private for some reason.

[Bug 775434] [NEW] Make Unity keyboard shortcuts configurable

2011-05-02 Thread László Monda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Currently Unity provides about two dozen keyboard shortcuts which are
completely hardcoded.

It is essenetial from a productivity standpoint for the user to be able
to configure any of those. It was possible with Metacity / Compiz
through the Keyboard Shortcuts window. The same interface could be used
for Unity for updating its configuration and possibly featuring few
Unity-specific keybindings.

[Bug 581349] [NEW] I have to restart my laptop to eject some DVDs!

2010-05-16 Thread László Monda
Public bug reported:

I'm using 10.4, Lucid Lynx.

If I put in some rewriteable DVDs that my drive cannot really read and I
try to eject in Nautilus I got the following popup window:

Unable to eject My Pictures
A job is pending on /dev/sr0

Let's see some related processes hoping that they'll help debugging this
issue:

l...@nitehawk:~/backup/linode$ ps -ef | grep sr0
root 6264 6196 0 15:03 ?00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: no polling
because /dev/sr0 is locked via O_EXCL
root 9779 5235 0 16:59 ?00:00:00 /sbin/blkid -o udev -p -u
noraid /dev/sr0
laci 9781 5953 0 16:59 ?00:00:00 udisks-helper-fstab-mounter
mount /dev/sr0 1000
root 9782 9781 0 16:59 ?00:00:00 mount /dev/sr0

Pushing the eject button on the drive doesn't help.

sudo eject doesn't help.

sudo kill -9 6264 9779 9781 9782; sudo eject doesn't help.

Restarting my laptop does help, however.

This issue truly infuriates me and it's a paramount example of why Linux
is not ready for prime time.

[Bug 404097] [NEW] Tomcat 6 init script spawns 3 Tomcat instances

2009-07-24 Thread László Monda
Public bug reported:

I've recently used Tomcat on Intrepid and Jaunty. On both of them I've
experienced the same problem: There are 3 Tomcat instances spawned by
the tomcat6 init script.

I'm aware that there are efforts to make the Tomcat init scripts more
developer friendly outlined by
http://ubuntuserver.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/tomcat-6-lands-in-intrepid/
for example, but I didn't install the tomcat6-user package so there
should only be one tomcat instance by default.

There is 1 instance owned by the tomcat6 user that does some real work
and 2 other instances owned by root that do nothing.

Doing a little investigation in the tomcat6 init script it seems that
the

$DAEMON -user $TOMCAT6_USER -cp $JSVC_CLASSPATH -outfile SYSLOG
-errfile SYSLOG -pidfile $CATALINA_PID $JAVA_OPTS $BOOTSTRAP_CLASS

command spawns all the instances which is strange to me because I'd
expect a much more sophisticated solution like checking the user home
dirs for tomcat-related configuration information from the init script
and starting the instances accordingly.

I have two questions:

1) Why does the init script behave the way it does?
2) Is it possible to change the default behaviour (using only one instance) or
is it hardcoded?

Thanks!
