> Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade?

No it is a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04.3

> Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this
particular problem?

Every kernel version I tried did not boot with ACPI active.

> Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel?
Done. Will attach a few photos I shot while booting (and crashing).

** Description changed:

I am running a Ubuntu 16.04 on a Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 board. It runs fine
with a Nvidia Quadro GPU. When I switch the Quadro with a Radeon Pro WX2100 the
system stops booting (leads to kernel panics).
The failing functions are always acpi and irq related.
The only way to boot is then to add `acpi=off`.

[Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)

2017-12-24 Thread LCID Fire
I encountered a similar or same problem on Gigabyte AB350 with Ubuntu 16.04
running `4.13.0-21-generic #24~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 18 19:39:31 UTC
2017`. It even shows up on 18.04 Alpha.
Only thing that makes it halfway work is setting `acpi=off`.

Isn't this supposed to be fixed by now?

It actually ignores _-emit-llvm_ completely. Which makes llvm-gcc pretty

[Bug 610254] Re: Pulseaudio stops playing sound

2010-12-25 Thread LCID Fire
For me all pulseaudio problems are gone in natty. That said if I remember it
correctly it started working with kernel 2.6.37-6 or so. Also prior to that I
revoked any RT priority pulseaudio might have gotten.
Now pulseaudio sometimes skips and hangs for a second or two - but that's far
better than it blocking the whole machine or playing no sound at all.

[Bug 610254] Re: Pulseaudio stops playing sound

2010-11-21 Thread LCID Fire
For me the behavior changed (since Natty) so that the playing process (e.g.
totem) and the pulseaudio process take up 100% of my cpu so I mostly can't even
get into a console anymore.
I can not reliably reproduce the bug - it might occur after a few minutes or a
few hours.

I think it's originally a problem in ALSA which Pulseaudio does not handle at
all/graciously.

[Bug 445487] Re: Network-Manager fails WPA2 Enterprise configuration

For me using Tunneled TLS for Authentication and PAP for Inner

stable as it's for Windows or Mac clients but since there doesn't seem
to be any maintainer using an eduroam network it's probably the best
we'll get.

Still the same in Maverick. Which is quite interesting because my Android 2.1

So I have to tether the network connection from my phone to my laptop.

[Bug 648456] [NEW] Copying huge amounts of data very slow

2010-09-26 Thread LCID Fire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I copy e.g. 100GB to an external drive (2TB, connected via eSata) the
transfer rate starts at about 50MB/s and soon drops to 13MB/s. Both drives are
ext4.
One thing I found quite strange is that while copying it used 400MB of swap
space although free said there was still 1.4GB of RAM available. Maybe some
kind of swapping slows the reading down!?

[Bug 272153] Re: Don't run trackerd when indexing and watching is disabled

2010-08-02 Thread LCID Fire
The only way to stop Tracker from indexing is removing it entirely. I
like the software - but not being able to temporarily disable it makes
things like gaming, djing, etc. impossible. Thus I had to remove it.

[Bug 610254] [NEW] Pulseaudio stops playing sound

2010-07-26 Thread LCID Fire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Without any reason pulseaudio sometimes stops playing sound (after it worked in
e.g. miro and flashplugin). Alsamixer says all controls are fine and killall
pulseaudio doesn't help either.
Also there doesn't seem to be any log in messages or syslog. It worked
flawlessly in Lucid - the behaviour occured on recent versions of Maverick so
it might even be kernel related.

Although it happens that if it crashed - soffice.bin is not started anymore

~/.openoffice.org does at least allow soffice.bin to start.

[Bug 570788] [NEW] Screen twisted with multiple Monitors

2010-04-27 Thread LCID Fire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

I have multiple Monitors (2 external + 1 internal) at my Laptop and tried to
use nouveau (= running without xorg.conf). The login screen appears and the
whole screen is divided - the right half is left and the left half is right.
Logging in it stays this way and Ubuntu complains that setting size is not
allowed by the driver.
After all with it's current state I have the feeling that the driver is pretty
unusable - which is hilarious since it's the default for Lucid now.

[Bug 542653] [NEW] Addon installer needed

2010-03-20 Thread LCID Fire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Since the recent versions of Thunderbird break compatibility quite frequent
it's no longer possible for a normal user (or even an experienced one) to know
how to get a working add on.
For example the Lightning version in the lucid repo is ancient so the user has
to manually install the addon. The link to the web pages are then bogus since
there is no Lightning build for stable Thunderbird and 64 bit arch. Similar
problems are present when trying to get GData plugin to install.
Overall the addon system leaves the user totally lost which taken the version
incompatabilities into account is just bad. When the abi/interfaces are not
kept stable at least an addon tool should be present which then can workout the
dependencies for the user.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 159936] Re: [gutsy] Rapid system hangs

2010-03-13 Thread LCID Fire
Like I said - this problem is probably related to a faulty dvd-drive. The drive
and machine are long gone - so no chance to test anymore.
It should still be a problem unless someone would work on making drive faults
less performance consuming.

[Bug 527188] [NEW] Firefox shows garbage instead of jpg (only when embedded in iframe)

2010-02-24 Thread LCID Fire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Instead of showing the actual jpg firefox displays more or less random garbage
when attemting to get a close look at e.g. Wikipedia images (previously found
via Google image search).
This is only reproductible when the image is displayed withing an iframe. And
best of all - there are 3 users on this system and only 1 is facing this
problem - the other 2 cannot reproduce this behaviour (it works using the same
steps). I'm baffled since I cannot imagine which system component is user
centered and also changes the system deep enough to cause such a graphic glitch.
