[Bug 1508787] Re: Mumble fails to stay connected using 3.13.0-66-generic kernel
Awesome, that seems to work. Connected to Mumble and stayed connected. And I could speak/hear with someone else also connected. [Bug 1508787] [NEW] Mumble fails to stay connected using 3.13.0-66-generic kernel
Public bug reported: Mumble can't stay connected to the server when using the 3.13.0-66-generic kernel. It's almost constantly using >100% CPU too. It's fine when using the 3.13.0-65-generic kernel. To reproduce, boot with the 3.13.0-66-generic kernel and start Mumble. It initially connects to the server but then disconnects. All other participants in the Mumble are displayed as connected but their 'lips' icons always stay greyed out and they can't be heard (although they can hear me). [Bug 1357810] Re: Can't install updates because out of space
I think this is what I did today so that I could install the most recent updates. I used Synaptic to uninstall three kernels so I now just have the current kernel and the previous one. Is that the same result as using the commands that article suggests? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357810 Title: Can't install updates because out of space To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1357810/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1100700] [NEW] 12.04 Setting for multiple monitors not stored
Public bug reported: Thinkpad T430 (1600x900) and Lenovo 23 monitor (1920x1080) My problem is very similar to the one described in Ubuntu question: http://askubuntu.com/questions/194390/settings-for-multiple-monitors- are-not-stored I have side-by-side monitors (monitor (left); thinkpad (right)) with both at their full resolutions, extended desktop with the dock on the monitor (not the thinkpad). This is an awesome setup and I'm really pleased with how shiny Unity looks. :) I can also switch Fn+f7 from that to thinkpad-only and back again. Which is perfect. Unfortunately, when I reboot, the settings are lost and the monitors are put back to 'mirror' (with the rubbish resolutions that that causes), the dock is put on my laptop screen, and the screens are swapped round (right-to-left). So I have to redo the settings each morning. While there are suggested workarounds in the Ubuntu question (above), I think the Display Settings that have been selected should be retained across boots. Otherwise, the Display Settings dialog just seems flaky. Thanks. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Thinkpad T430 (1600x900) and Lenovo 23 monitor (1920x1080) My problem is very similar to the one described in Ubuntu question: http://askubuntu.com/questions/194390/settings-for-multiple-monitors- are-not-stored I have side-by-side monitors (monitor (left); thinkpad (right)) with both at their full resolutions, extended desktop with the dock on the monitor (not the thinkpad). [Bug 735122] Re: Samsung Q35 trackpad unreliable in Maverick
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I recently installed Maverick fresh on my Samsung Q35 laptop. Since then, the trackpad has been unreliable. When dragging and dropping (ie keeping the left mouse button down while moving a finger across the trackpad), if I run out of trackpad I lift and move my finger while continuing to hold the mouse button down and then continue moving my finger across the trackpad (like you do with the mouse when you run out of desk). - On Maverick, if I lift and restart dragging my finger too quickly (in - some applications anyway), the trackpad seems to interpret that as - having 'dropped' whatever it is I'm dragging and dropping. Leading to - fun trying to track down emails that have ended up in the wrong - folder... It seems to affect some applications better or worse than - others. Sometimes if I'm slow at lifting then replacing my finger, it's - fine (it realises I'm still in the same drag-drop process) but sometimes - it's really tricky to do that. [Bug 735122] [NEW] Samsung Q35 trackpad unreliable in Maverick
Public bug reported: I recently installed Maverick fresh on my Samsung Q35 laptop. On Maverick, if I lift and restart dragging my finger too quickly (in some applications anyway), the trackpad seems to interpret that as having 'dropped' whatever it is I'm dragging and dropping. Leading to fun trying to track down emails that have ended up in the wrong folder... It seems to affect some applications better or worse than others. Sometimes if I'm slow at lifting then replacing my finger, it's fine (it realises I'm still in the same drag-drop process) but sometimes it's really tricky to do that. It's also unnatural. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/735122 Title: Samsung Q35 trackpad unreliable in Maverick -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 349336] Re: Ambiguous wording in confirmation alert box
I agree with Åskar. I raised the dupe of this bug - my main problem with Janitor is that either it needs to take responsibility and just remove the packages with confidence, or it should provide all the info that the user needs (in a form the user understands) to make the decision. [Bug 371918] [NEW] Computer Janitor message doesn't help user decide whether to continue
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: computer-janitor-gtk The 'Really clean up?' message in Computer Janitor needs to be more helpful to the user in deciding whether to continue. I ran Computer Janitor for the first time (on Jaunty) and it displayed 18 .deb files that it could remove. When I asked it to Clean Up, it popped up a message. The message says: Really clean up? You are removing 18 .deb packages. This may break your system, if you need them. Do you want to continue? No/Yes This message didn't help me at all in making the decision of whether to continue. Yes, the removal of .deb packages from the system *might* cause problems, but you can't expect me to make an informed judgement about that (I had no idea whether the removal of those .deb packages would break my system; I could only trust that Computer Janitor was showing me packages that could be safely removed). CJ shouldn't list packages that *might* cause problems if removed; it needs to be absolutely sure that it won't break my computer. The message needs to help me decide what to do. All the message provides at the moment is: a) doubt and uncertainty in the user as to whether the Computer Janitor will in fact do what it says it will do (or whether it will just break their computer), and b) an impression in the user that the developer isn't confident that their code will in fact do what it's meant to do Neither of which, IMHO, is a good thing (for either the user or for Ubuntu). If Computer Janitor is not going to do what it's meant to do, it shouldn't be in the release. If it will work as designed (it's so far worked fine for me - but then I've not rebooted yet... ;-) ), why confuse the user? You could warn the user of the potential impact of running Computer Janitor up front (if you really think that's necessary). You could provide a brief intro in the app itself (ie after CJ starts but before the user has chance to do anything with it); for example, at the top of the window, or even on a message that has to be OK'd before the main CJ window opens (though that might put anyone off using it...). Even then, though, provide useful information that helps the user make an informed decision, like: Computer Janitor removes unused packages from your computer. It is possible, if the package has not been used in a while [or whatever reason CJ might be mistaken] that Computer Janitor will remove packages that are needed by your system. If that happens, you can reinstall the packages [or whatever action the user has to take to rectify the damage] by...[or link to instructions of how to rectify the damage]. On a separate note, is it not possible for this clean-up to be done invisibly as part of the upgrade process? I always assumed it would be and was surprised that I got an increasingly long list of kernels during startup. ** Affects: computer-janitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Computer Janitor message refuses to take responsibility + Computer Janitor message doesn't help user decide whether to continue -- Computer Janitor message doesn't help user decide whether to continue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 371633] [NEW] Tracker applet fails to reindex after Jaunty upgrade and message box won't close
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Jaunty on 2nd May, the Tracker applet wanted to reindex. It failed to reindex and popped up the message: Tracker There was an error while performing indexing: Index corrupted. It gives me the option to 'Reindex all contents'. If I click that, the same message pops up again but also I get an 'are you sure' type of message (saying something about the length of time it takes to reindex) and I say yes it can reindex and the reindexing starts (but the initial message (above) doesn't go away). The reindexing fails again in the same way as before. If I click OK or Cancel on the message box above (NB not sure what the difference between the two buttons is? I think that's a usability problem and there should probably only be an OK button?), the message box won't go away. Even if I click the x in the top-right corner, the message box won't go away. In the meantime, trackerd and tracker-indexer processes are still running continuously. Only when I manually 'kill' the trackerd and tracker-indexer processes can I close the message box (and the tracker- applet process ends as well). It's a Samsung Q35 laptop. I upgraded from Intrepid rather than doing a fresh installation. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Tracker applet fails to reindex after Jaunty upgrade and message box won't close https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 364280] [NEW] Thinkpad T61p NVIDIA drivers crash intermittently on Intrepid
Public bug reported: Every few days, X crashes without any warning - the screen just goes black. I think the system is then trying to restart X but fails. The furthest it gets is to a small dialog that gives options of troubleshooting the problem, or a couple of other options. I was able to find out where it put the log (see attached). This is using the NVIDIA drivers for my widescreen Thinkpad T61p. It's only happened on Intrepid, to which I upgraded a couple of months ago. [Bug 334265] [NEW] No GUI way to edit dns suffixes without manually setting *all* dns info
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager A network I regularly connect to doesn't, using DHCP, give me all the DNS suffixes I need. I therefore want to manually add the extra DNS suffixes so that they're added whenever I join the network. Under Hardy, I could create a profile with the additional suffixes in the network settings dialog which I could re-apply whenever I joined that particular network (annoying that I had to keep reapplying it but at least it worked). However, I'm now on Intrepid (Thinkpad T61p) and the GUI dialogs have changed. It seems as if the only way to add the suffixes in the GUI is to add all the DNS info (et addresses) manually as well - which I don't want. On the command line I can do the following: 1) edit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf 2) prepend domain-name southampton.example.com example.com ; Then every time dns is updated by whatever the network provides, it prepends with those values. Which is great but a bit obscure to set. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No GUI way to edit dns suffixes without manually setting *all* dns info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334265 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm still on Hardy but I checked with someone on Thinkpad T61 (not 'p' on the end - I don't know if that makes a difference to the relevant hardware here?) and he says the LEAP support is fine on Intrepid (it didn't on Hardy). [Bug 286889] [NEW] Hardy kernel update trashed Nvidia graphics on T61p widescreen Thinkpad
Public bug reported: Thinkpad T61p (lspci output attached) widescreen using Nvidia proprietary drivers installed by Envy NG. I installed the updates yesterday (which I think included a kernel update) and when I rebooted for the first time, this morning, X struggled to start (kept trying then dropping back to the text login) until (about 4 attempts), it got X to start in a really low resolution (maybe 800x600). I ran Envy NG and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers, which fixed the problem. I'm not certain what happened but it seems like the kernel update wasn't compatible with the Nvidia module (as I think Envy said that it was rebuilding a module when it was reapply the graphics drivers). Is there any way to prevent this happening in future - or at least to provide a pop-up message during the updates to warn the user to reinstall the graphics drivers? The same thing happened to a colleague the day before (I assume it was the same updates he installed). Kernel now at 2.6.24-21-generic ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Hardy kernel update trashed Nvidia graphics on T61p widescreen Thinkpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285853] [NEW] [Intrepid] Run It Now button on lightbulb msg after updates threw error
Public bug reported: Finished installing updates on Tues 14th Oct and there was a little lightbulb icon in the system tray so I clicked it to display the message about the new menu that's now available for logging out and instant messaging status, etc. I clicked the Run It Now button on that message box but instead of running anything, it just displayed an error message because it couldn't find the applet. Laptop is a Samsung Q35. [Bug 285856] [NEW] [Intrepid] Desktop freezes intermittently with 0% disk activity
Public bug reported: During normal usage, the current application freezes without warning for a few seconds, then resumes. Usually when using firefox but that's my most-used app; happens when using other apps too, such as Audacity. Can switch to other apps when it happens but that just freezes those apps too. The System Monitor applets on the task bar say that when this happens, there is 0% disk activity for the duration of the freeze but the activity resumes when the freeze thaws. Very very frustrating and happens on Hardy too on this same laptop. I can't reproduce it deliberately as I can't work out what's causing it. On installing Intrepid, it seemed to happen less than on Hardy but it's happening more frequently now so I don't know whether that was just my perception or whether there's something I install that causes this. Is there a way to produce a list of all the apps I have installed?
