[Bug 1886658] Re: libsnmp-perl depends on wrong perl version

2020-07-10 Thread Leif Sawyer
Verified that the problem is in the version depends by
downloading the deb pkg and doing the following:

$ dpkg-deb --raw-extract ../libsnmp-perl_5.8+dfsg-2ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb .
$ sed -i.bak 's/Depends: perl (>= 5.30.0-9ubuntu0.1)/Depends: perl (>=
5.30.0)/;' DEBIAN/control
$ dpkg-deb --build . ../libsnmp-perl.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i ../libsnmp-perl.deb

and the modified package installed correctly.

(of course, this breaks other depends, so it's just validating this one
package)

[Bug 1570617] Re: [MIR] edk2

2019-01-08 Thread Leif Lindholm
Thanks for bump.

This (perhaps) makes for a useful time to point out that while there are
still not formal releases, EDK2 now makes quarterly-ish "stable tags".
So far we have edk2-stable201808 and edk2-stable201811, next one will be
edk2-stable201903.

My goal is for this to move to proper releases, longer-term. For now
it's more of a valve on the fire hose, and the introduction of some
level of process/discipline on the timing for applying non-bugfixes.

As for openssl, don't know if that makes a huge difference, but that has
now moved to a git submodule instead of being manually imported into the
tree.

[Bug 1015819] Re: sb_sasl_generic_pkt_length: received illegal packet length when using ldapsearch and sasl with ssl or tls

2016-02-03 Thread Leif Thuresson
Yes I didn't mean the commit was wrong. The problem is MS-AD, but before the
commit it was possible to do LDAP SASL bind over an SSL/TLS connection to AD
if you set min and max SSF below or equal to 128 (doesn't need to be zero).
So it would be nice to have some sort of AD compatibility mode. I think it
would be okay for this mode to not follow the RFC as long as it is not the
default operating mode and it is properly documented.

[Bug 1015819] Re: sb_sasl_generic_pkt_length: received illegal packet length when using ldapsearch and sasl with ssl or tls

2016-01-19 Thread Leif Thuresson
The workaround proposed by Johnny Westerlund on 2015-05-06
works in cyrus-sasl-2.1.23 but not in the latest version 2.1.26.

Looks like it is this commit that cause the workaround to stop working.

[Bug 1525207] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel slow perfomance, needs updating

2015-12-12 Thread Leif
@tjaalton Xenial has git 20151019
(2:2.99.917+git20151019-1~exp1ubuntu1). Since there is no information on
the git commit, I assume ef859c807a4bfad7c8a01a1d63f354f3ef310db5
from that date.

By building the drivers on commit
ef859c807a4bfad7c8a01a1d63f354f3ef310db5 on 15.10.

I checked the daily build on 16.04, and the issue is there as well.
However, by using the latest driver on commit
c4565979572b61cf7fc0b931333c032c88b259f1, the issue is not visible.

I would like to request the driver in 16.04 to be updated, if possible.

makes everything working again in my 14.04 LTS. /Leif N., Sweden

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze

2015-06-14 Thread Leif K-Brooks
I had a similar issue on my Dell Precision M3800. (Black screen with
nvidia drivers enabled, fine with Intel drivers, and the workaround of
closing the lid worked.)

Turns out, it was caused by a buggy version of xserver-xorg-video-intel,
which came from the xorg-edgers PPA repository. When I downgraded to the
official Ubuntu version, everything worked fine.

To downgrade to the official Ubuntu version, you need to find its
version string. For me, on trusty, the latest official version string
was 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1.6, but you can find it for yourself with apt-
cache showpkg xserver-xorg-video-intel. Once you have the version
string, do apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel=VERSIONSTRINGHERE.

You'll also want to pin the package to prevent upgrades from
automatically installing the PPA's version in the future. To do that,
create a file called /etc/apt/preferences.d/no-intel-ppa with the
following contents:

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-xorg-edgers
Pin-Priority: -1

Thanks Lief! Has this been submitted upstream?

Yeah, I logged a bug in the lshw tracking system (which is moderated,
so it's not publicly visible yet). I also intend to raise it on
bugs.debian.org (Jessie can still crash the Mustang boards, and I'm
thinking the powerpc port will also be potentially risky).

I'd suggest opening a separate bug in LP to enable this class of
systems. This bug is at the end of it's lifecycle, and reopening it

I don't mind, but as always I am slightly unsure of what level of

[Bug 1388262] [NEW] Prevent unsuitable scanning of /dev/mem and enable SMBIOS support for all UEFI platforms

2014-10-31 Thread Leif Lindholm
Public bug reported:

SMBIOS defines that on x86 platforms one can scan for an entry point in
the physical address range 0xf-0xf - which is achieved by
mmapping /dev/mem. However, this is invalid for most other
architectures. Meanwhile, UEFI has alternative defined methods of
discovery, so SMBIOS data can be easily found on at least IA64, ARM and
AArch64.

lshw currently has a stack of ifdefs to not attempt scanning on certain
listed architectures. New architectures, like AArch64, end up with the
lshw command potentially reading sensitive i/o regions, causing system
crashes.

The attached patch (which has been logged in upstream ticketing system,
but is pending moderation there) flips the logic to only perform raw
memory scanning on i386/x86_64 and also enables looking for SMBIOS
tables on all UEFI platforms (in a safe manner).

** Affects: lshw (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: smbios-noscan.patch

Yeah, I've got a bug open in Debian (#740034), I certainly don't mind
if you add your patch there since it is still open. Actually, I need
to increase the severity now since arm64 is part of the archive.

Added.

I'd suggest opening a separate bug in LP to enable this class of

Well, if it is negatively impacting shipping hardware (i.e. lshw is
unable to report certain things because of the lack of smbios
support), I'd say High since I consider that a hardware enablement
issue. If it's just a correctness thing at this point, my opinion
would be wishlist. That's just my opinion though, feel free to use
 your own judgment.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lshw/+bug/1388262 raised.
And I don't have access to set severity anyway, so I'll leave that up

[Bug 1239100] [NEW] Modal dialogs do not receive focus when opened

2013-10-12 Thread Leif Arne Storset
Public bug reported:

To reproduce with 2:7.3.547-6ubuntu5 on Ubuntu GNOME 13.04:

1. Open a file in GVIM.
2. Edit the file in another program.
3. Switch back to GVIM using one of
* Alt-Tab switcher
* Clicking on GVIM's title bar (not the client area)
* The Activities switcher
A modal dialog pops up saying 'W11: Warning: File test has changed since
editing started'.

Expected: The modal dialog is focused, so that I can immediately dismiss
it by pressing Enter or reload the file by pressing L.

Actual: The modal dialog is not focused. Keyboard input appears to be
ignored.

Workaround: Switch away from GVIM and then back. (For instance, Alt+Tab
twice.) The dialog receives focus. (You could also click using your
mouse if you have time for such things.)

Confirmed that the patch listed above does not solve the full extent of
the problem.

It does allow the module to build, but then any use of the network will cause
the kernel to OOPS.
Only a hard-power-cycle will restore access to the system, provided you boot
into single-user mode to remove the module prior to system usage.

[Bug 1001825] Re: apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse: conflict between ubuntu and OS X

2013-01-16 Thread Leif Huhn
Things will go much more smoothly if you use the same link keys in both
OS X and Linux. Then the device won't need to be repaired everytime you
switch between them.

You can do this by:

1. Pairing in Linux
2. Pairing in OS X
3. Copying the link keys from OS X to Linux

Attached is a script that will perform step 3. It assumes you are in
Linux and have your OS X partition mounted at /media/osx (readonly is
fine). It will overwrite all your Linux link keys (so anything not
paired in OS X will stop working).

Also, Linux apparently needs to know how many digits the PIN was when
pairing. I have hardcoded the script to assume 6 but to make an
exception for a given hardware address. You might want to edit the
script with the hardware address of your mouse.

It requires the package libplist-utils (sudo apt-get install libplist-
utils).

[Bug 1036873] Re: HUD/Dash refuses to close

2012-10-25 Thread Leif Johnson
I just ran across this bug too. (I changed the HUD hotkey to the windows
key on my US keyboard, if that matters.) It seems like a more-or-less
reliable method of triggering the bug is to press the hotkey very
quickly -- the Type your command HUD appears briefly, then gets
covered up by the larger HUD showing application icons etc. Pressing
escape removes the larger HUD, but the Type your command HUD remains
and seems insensitive to keypresses or mouse clicks. Pressing the HUD
hotkey for a longer period of time seems to clear everything out.

2012-05-20 Thread Leif Halldor Asgeirsson

Every so often I lose connectivity. This is very similar to bug #984552.
Tricky to reproduce because it doesn't seem to affect me quite as
frequently as the reporter of #984552. I will post ping output showing
packet loss the next time I experience the bug.

[Bug 959216] [NEW] Installed gems not found in PATH

2012-03-19 Thread Leif Arne Storset
Public bug reported:

Having installed jruby 1.5.1-1 on Oneiric and then the Opera Watir gem
according to instructions at
http://www.opera.com/developer/tools/operawatir/install/ , typing
'operawatir' to start it gives command not found. Using locate I found
that the executable file resides in /usr/lib/jruby/bin/ and added that
to my PATH, which worked.

Now, I have only minimal experience with Ruby and Debian packaging, but
my expectation would be that the jRuby package would add
/usr/lib/jruby/bin/ to the PATH during installation.

Super+T still opens the trash folder. Setting other shortcuts to
Super+something else also doesn't change the behaviour of those key
combinations.

To reproduce: Launch System Settings (or gnome-control-center), go to
'Keyboard', click on the 'Shortcuts' tab, and set a launcher to
Super+something.

Hitting Super alone opens the Unity search menu as usual.

[Bug 576288] Re: second screen in dualhead setup doesn't refresh properly until reconfigured

2011-05-09 Thread Leif Arne Storset
Interestingly, gnome-screenshot doesn't see the display that doesn't
refresh properly. Whereas before the screenshot would be super-wide and
cover both displays, now it's regular 4:3 and covers only the display
that refreshes properly. Maybe that somehow is helpful to those that
know the code?

(I noticed because this bug allows Compiz's Wobbly Windows to make some
beautiful trails, and I wanted a screenshot. ;))

[Bug 594674] Re: Trash is not shown on --bind mounted filesystems

2011-03-01 Thread Leif Walsh
This also affects me. I have many directories (Music, Pictures, Videos,
Downloads, Documents, etc.) in my homedir that are bind mounts of
directories on another partition. If I delete a file with nautilus,
inside, say, ~/Music, it is put in /ext/Music/.Trash-1000, but doesn't
show up in the system trash dir. I have to manually delete everything
in these directories periodically, to reclaim space.

I see this is also an upstream bug, but it seems the discussion there
mirrors my own concern, that nautilus should at least show a message and
provide a Delete permanently option instead of trashing to a folder I
wouldn't otherwise see.

[Bug 632327] Re: Powertop suggests CONFIG_PM_ADVANCED_DEBUG kernel option

If you want to recompile, you can follow the kernel compilation guide on
the wiki, and just before you compile, set CONFIG_PM_DEBUG and
CONFIG_PM_ADVANCED_DEBUG to 'y' in config.common.ubuntu. I did this for
a while and it was safe, but I got tired of recompiling with every
kernel release.

[Bug 714241] [NEW] evolution crash, corrupted double-linked list

2011-02-06 Thread Leif Walsh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I do not know how to reproduce this, it just happens every once in a
while when evolution is just sitting around, there is no interaction
required. I am running with two accounts, both type IMAP+, going to a
local dovecot-imapd. The imap server is synced with a remote server
using offlineimap every 3 minutes with a cron job (it does not hold
connections open), and evolution is set to use Idle.

Ubuntu 10.10
evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu7.3
dovecot-imapd 1:1.2.12-1ubuntu8
offlineimap 6.2.0.2ubuntu1

Here is what I see on the console. It looks to be related to the use of
IMAP+.

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2011-02-02 Thread Leif Walsh
Also affects me. Please let me know if there is any debug information I
can collect to track this down. It has been happening at least since
Lucid, maybe earlier.

The behavior I see is as follows:

1) suspend
2) resume
3) often (I think only when running on battery), but this may not be true, I
haven't done any direct testing, the mouse and keyboard are responsive for a
few seconds, then get very sluggish. Moving the mouse doesn't work for a bit
(5-10 seconds), or is slow and jerky if it does respond.
4) after a small amount of time, normal operation resumes

My thought was that something that had been swapped out to disk to make
room for the resume image needed to get pulled back in for resume, but
this seems somewhat counter-intuitive. There was another bug about
evdev (#346310, something about EvdevReopenTimer()), maybe that's it?

Nothing shows up in dmesg, I wonder what is the best approach for
finding out more about this. It seems I'd need to start some logging
collection before the suspend and hope it continues after the resume,
but obviously if the keyboard and mouse don't respond, it's hard to trap
the exact error in gdb or somesuch. Maybe there's a way to run X under
valgrind? Please advise.

[Bug 692855] Re: polipo 1.0.4.1-1.1 segfaults inside ___vsnprintf_chk on connection failure when using unbound as a dns server

2011-02-01 Thread Leif Walsh
It's been over a month with no response, even an ask upstream.

Is there any other information I should provide? Can someone at least
tell me how to get debugging symbols for the package?

[Bug 684599] Re: Memory leak in nm-applet

2011-01-18 Thread Leif Walsh
Running for 3 minutes in valgrind produced the following pretty massive
logfile. Hopefully someone can make some sense of it. I opened the
menu and clicked Edit Connections..., this seemed to produce a lot of
errors on its own, but many are there regardless.

[Bug 684599] Re: Memory leak in nm-applet

2011-01-18 Thread Leif Walsh
That was with the following versions:

network-manager-gnome:
  Installed: 0.8.2+git.20101123t161608.f143e76-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.8.2+git.20101123t161608.f143e76-0ubuntu1

network-manager:
  Installed: 0.8.1+git.20100810t184654.ab580f4-0ubuntu2

Looks like I'm using a network-manager-gnome from a ppa. This is the
app-indicator version. If anyone wants to see it with a different
version, just link me to a deb I can install and I'll re-run it.

[Bug 700138] [NEW] Cannot resume from suspend

2011-01-07 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

In the Sony Vaio VPC EB 11fm, on ubuntu 10.10 specifically (10.04 worked
fine), you cannot suspend the machine, or more specifically, you cannot
resume from a suspend. Hitting the suspend button puts the computer in
the usual low level power statue as expected, but when the power button
is pressed to resume the machine, it boots up as if it was shut down.

I'm not certain if it's upstart, or a kernel bug that would cause this,
but I've now gone through several kernels (although all of them from the
default update channel), and the problem seems to persist. Again, it
worked fine in ubuntu 10.04.
