[Bug 598534] Re: Support appmenu-gtk

2011-01-28 Thread Lightbreeze
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: chromium-browser

- for Maverick UNE we will be using global menus for gtk and QT apps for
- the benefit of vertical space. chromium should detect if appmenu-gtk
- /indicator-apmenu is in use and create global menus and hide the
- preferences and page setup buttons.
+ Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) will use global menus for the benefit of vertical space.
+ At the moment we see only a generic File - Close menu.
+
+ Chromium should detect if indicator-appmenu is in use and export the
+ relevant menus, perhaps also hiding the wrench icon.

[Bug 566608] [NEW] The button to copy tracks from a music cd is hard to find

2010-04-19 Thread Lightbreeze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Insert an Audio CD and select the option to open in Rythmbox.
There is a button in the toolbar to copy the tracks on the CD to your library.
It's icon is a disc. It has no label.

Without scrubbing the toolbar, and reading the tooltips for each icon,
it's not at all obvious how to copy the tracks to your library.

The main problem is that Ubuntu is now set to have toolbars use text
beside icons - and with this option only the Play button has a label.
The simplest fix here is to show the label for the Extract button.

[Bug 542498] [NEW] Can't hide messages from facebook applications

2010-03-20 Thread Lightbreeze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

I don't want messages about who found what in which game. I'm not
interested in seeing They found someone who gave them x or They have
reached level 67! Help them fight the terrible raging moths of doom and
rule the world!! at the top of the page every time I open Gwibber.

There are really two bugs here: first, even though I hide an application
via the facebook website Gwibber still shows messages from that
application. Second, Gwibber itself doesn't have a hide button.

Actually, I'd be happy if I could just hide all applications in one fell

[Bug 537049] [NEW] Indicator menus should not use icons except for dynamic objects

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

See the specification at:

An item should have an icon /only/ if the item represents a “dynamic

I don't see any sense in Gwibber having either accounts or general

No other application has preferences in the System menu.

So why does Gwibber?

[Bug 194472] Re: Entering password in Terminal gives no visual feedback

2010-02-23 Thread Lightbreeze
Users new to Ubuntu will continue to use sudo and the terminal in Lucid.
One reason for that is forums and another is our own documentation. Here
is an example - and remember that without running this command no user
will be able to watch their DVDs:

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

I notice several suggestions:
1. Add text explaining that sudo will not give feedback,
2. Make Lucid use pwfeedback,
3. Enable pwfeedback only in the desktop edition,
3. Use an animation that doesn't reveal the password length but does provide
feedback

The only alternative I see that would solve the problem is for all
forums and documentation to replace sudo with gksudo.

2009-12-14 Thread Lightbreeze
I am unable to reproduce the problem you are having.

Would you please give simple step-by-step instructions how to reproduce
your problem so the developers can understand exactly what is happening?
Starting with 'Open Rhythmbox'.

Also, could you find the version of Ubuntu and Rhtyhmbox you are running?
To find the Ubuntu version: press the 'System' menu at the top of your screen
and then press 'About Ubuntu'.
To find the Rhythmbox version: open Rhythmbox and press the 'Help' menu then
'About'.

[Bug 442933] Re: Colour of document icons should match the associated OpenOffice application

2009-12-04 Thread Lightbreeze
mac_v: I believe Jane Silber is suggesting that mime icons should match
the associated OOo application.

So .doc and .odt mimes, which are currently orange, would become blue to
match the colour of both OOo Writer and MS Word. And .ods and .xls
spreadsheet files, currently brown, would become green to match OOo Calc
and MS Excel

I can't confirm whether we want this change but it seems reasonable
enough. I hope I've been able to explain clearly enough that it no
longer need be marked incomplete.

Export as PDF instead of Print to File might be a good incremental
change but my intuition says people aren't going to look for it in the

formats currently in Print to File (svg and postscript).

Like antistress says, the best solution would be a menuitem in the File
menu. antistress could you please identify the applications that most
need this fix?

[Bug 411242] [NEW] Links to folders on unmounted partitions pretend they are broken

2009-08-09 Thread Lightbreeze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Links to folders on unmounted partitions pretend they are broken instead
of mounting the partition.

Steps to reproduce:
Mount a partition[1], create a link on the Desktop pointing to a folder on that
partition, unmount the partition. Then try to open the link on the Desktop - it
will tell you it is a broken link.

Opening the link should mount the partition if it is not already
mounted.

[1] I have tested only with NTFS partitions and an up-to-date Ubuntu
Jaunty.

[Bug 409149] [NEW] Too awkward to Grab a selected area using the screenshot tool

2009-08-04 Thread Lightbreeze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Trying to accurately select an area to screenshot is difficult,
especially on a laptop with a touchpad. I begin dragging, and when I
release, the screenshot is taken immediately. There is no opportunity to
adjust the selected area.

I would love if the tool worked like cropping does in GIMP: with squares
at each corner that I can drag around to adjust the area.

Try GIMP and try the screenshot tool, which is quite awkward, especially
if you want to be accurate.

[Bug 19397] Re: CD burner should show total size of files to be burned

2009-08-03 Thread Lightbreeze
Yes, this is definitely an issue in Jaunty (GNOME 2.26.1).
The upstream bug says the size should be shown in the status bar (which it does
do _if_ you select all the files), however I think the total size should be far
more prominent. Graphically showing the percentage of space left on the CD or
DVD would be excellent.

This is definitely a problem, as I've had a friend ask 'How do I tell if
the disk is full?'.

Maybe even something like Banshee does?

[Bug 407698] Re: Don't show Stretch Icon... in context-menus by default

2009-08-02 Thread Lightbreeze
FWIW, Zoom in/out/normal would have been added only to the right-click
menu for the Desktop, and not the menu for files on the Desktop. I just
meant to illustrate there might be other ways to do this.

I see you want more thought on this. I never meant to blindly remove
functionality without consideration.

@A. Walton, I don't want to play UI designer on this one. I just want a
sensible discussion _with_ UI designers who are willing to re-look at
the functionality. I realise it is more appropriate to discuss this on a
mailing list. I'll create a thread asking how people are using the
functionality before coming back here with feedback.

Public bug reported:

The icon for 'Transmission BitTorrent Client' looks like a gear-lever.
It does not suggest the program's purpose, but instead suggests the

[Bug 407726] [NEW] Tooltip for SCIM Input Method Setup is unhelpful and uses overly technical language

2009-08-01 Thread Lightbreeze
Public bug reported:

The tooltip reads Setup utility for Smart Common Input Method
platform.

Setup utility describes what the program is, rather than the action
the user performs. All other tooltips in the menu describe an action

[Bug 407698] Re: Don't show Stretch Icon... in context-menus by default

2009-08-01 Thread Lightbreeze
I think we need to look at what this feature is designed for. I'm not
sure myself. How is it useful?

If people want bigger icons than there is already a preference in
Nautilus; if that is not discoverable enough it might help to add zoom
in/out/normal options to the context-menu for the Desktop.

When is enlarging a single icon, rather than opening it, needed? And is
there a better way of meeting these needs?

Bug #62529 should be fixed in Karmic meaning you can drag Bookmarks like

[Bug 404150] [NEW] Most recent downloads should be shown first in 'Downloads' folder

Public bug reported:

Files in the Downloads folder can add up. At the moment the folder is
sorted by name and it can be hard to find the file you recently
downloaded. It's easy to forget a filename, and at the moment the
download could be listed anywhere in a long wash of icons.
