[Bug 561030] Re: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet
@Christopher M. Penalver: This was a confirmed bug. Are you trying to delete it just because there was no activity? Have you removed the bug or have you observed any contrary facts? If not, then the bug is still valid. Do you really expect me to ping this bug report every week just to keep it alive? I am using another machine now so I cannot test any new kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561030 Title: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/561030/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 561030] Re: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet
Another thing: as I am not using the S12 any longer (graphics card died), you can close this bug report as far as I'm concerned. But this doesn't mean, the system clock is working on that machine. It means only, I am not using the machine anymore and I cannot test any new kernels.

Christopher M. Penalver, you may close this bug report if you think so. I am ok with that. I would do it myself if I could. [Bug 561030] Re: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet
I have installed Arch Linux on the maschine and observed the same behaviour of the wireless card as on Kubuntu: it was down on boot. When I tried to ifconfig wlan0 up I got an error message about rfkill: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill and rfkill list shown the card as being blocked. So I had to issue the commands: sudo rfkill unblock wifi sudo ifconfig wlan0 up and then manually connect to my network. Then I added following line to the file /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf: options ath_pci rfkill=0 and rebooted. Since then, the wireless card is up on boot time and the system clock is working ok even without any network connection. The next thing happend was that when pulling out the power cable the wireless network card would go down and the system clock would begin to slow down as well, so I changed the KDE power settings to not do anything when changing to battery power. I am not sure about the exact connection between the system clock and the wireless card being down at boot time or being turned off on battery power, but it seems that some kernel module is not detecting the card appropriately and shuts it down with the side effect of slowing down the system clock. But this is only my assumtion. Nevertheless I hope this information helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561030 Title: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 634702] Re: Kernel 2.6.35-19 fails to boot Lenovo S10-3
Using a Lenovo S12 (not S10) with an Intel Atom N270 CPU: after upgrading today from Lucid to the new release version, the system refused to boot, so I did a fresh install of the release version. The system would not boot either, so I did what you sugested here in posts 36 and 38. Now the system boots. [Bug 561030] Re: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet
Hi and thanks for the reply. The inactivity comes from the fact that I didn't had any other information to provide. I recently installed opensuse 11.2 on this machine and I observed the same behavior, except that the system clock wasn't automatically adjusted when I connected to Internet. Yesterday I reinstalled Kubuntu Lucid LTS and I observe the same issue: system clock doesn't work right and gets corrected when I connect to Internet. I will try the latest development release you mentioned and report back. I have no idea how to test the upstream kernel which you are talking about (I think I must take the time for reading the wiki you pointed to). I am using this machine as production machine and it would not be very productive for me and for my studies to install/reinstall things every day. [Bug 561030] Re: System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet
Hi, I just observed that the release page you linked to contains the same Lucid I installed yesterday, so I am going now to run apport- collect. ** Description changed: I don't know which package this bug belongs to, so I am going to just describe how it acts hoping that will be categorized appropriately. Sorry for any inconvenience. I am running Kubuntu Lucid beta 2 on a Lenovo IdeaPad S12 (Intel Atom N270, Intel GMA 950 Graphic Card). lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release:10.04 Expected behaviour: boot system, the clock should run normaly, with no delay and not requiring a running network connection or special setup, except setting up the time zone during installation. Observed behaviour: boot system; if there is no network conection, the system time runs about two times slower as the real time. If I plug in the internet cable, the time is being corrected in about one second, even though I didn't set it up to automatically update from the internet in the control center. If I then plug out the network cable, time continues to run normaly, with no delay even the whole day. Restarting the system will beginn to delay the time if I don't establish a connection to internet at least one time and at least a few seconds. I also tried the currently stable version of Ubuntu (Karmic, Live CD) and observed the same behaviour. This issue cannot be a hardware problem due to the following facts: 1) booting XP doesn't cause any time delay 2) if I correct the system time and then turn off the computer for a few hours (the whole night) and then turn it on again, the time is correct at start up but immediately beginns to delay. [Bug 561030] [NEW] System clock runs about two times slower if no connection to internet
Public bug reported: I don't know which package this bug belongs to, so I am going to just describe how it acts hoping that will be categorized appropriately. I don't now what other information should I provide but I am willing to help as much as I can. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I don't know which package this bug belongs to, so I am going to just describe how it acts hopping that will be categorized appropriately. [Bug 312569] Re: Unable to make any changes in Date / Time kcontrol
Kubuntu Lucid Beta 1, last updates, as of April, 7 2010, running on a Lenovo S12 and Toshiba Satellite L40. If I click on Set date and time automatically I am prompted for password which I enter and then I get the message: Unable to contact time server: de.pool.ntp.org. Runing sudo ntpdate -u de.pool.ntp.org works so there is no problem with the ntp client or the server. Also, running Lucid Beta somehow slows down the clock on the Lenovo machine so that after just one hour of uptime the system clock runs half an hour after. If I boot XP and just let it run, the system clock is correct even after 2 hours of running. I experience the same runnig the live cd. -- Unable to make any changes in Date / Time kcontrol https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
