Description: GNOME library to access AppStream services
AppStream is a cross-distribution effort for creating and sharing
metadata about software components available in the package repositories
 of a distribution.
 .
This package contains a GObject-based library to read and write AppStream
XML metadata and retrieve additional data such as screenshots.
 .
As opposed to libappstream, this library does not use an on-disk cache but
reads data directly from the XML or DEP-11 YAML files.

Still don't know what triggers the error.

The last error log appeared just after I've unlocked the lightdm screen
lock. I'm using two monitors: the one in my laptop and an external one
(FullHD resolution) plugged through HDMI, nothing unusual.

2016-07-03 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Ok, I don't know exactly what triggers this error... I think that Chrome
showing Tweetdeck or some big flashing-ad does it, because the screen
flickers/breaks a lot (and in Ubuntu 14.04 didn't)... anyway, now I've
installed 4.7.0-040700rc5-generic kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc5-yakkety/ and I'll report if I have this
error in a week of work.

I've had 7 errors like this in 4 days of regular work, so I'll come back
with news in a week or so.

I've upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04, and I'm sure that this issue wasn't
there.

But in the bug #1525390 the user said that was happening in 15.10, so it
seems to be affecting that version too.

[Bug 940030] Re: rsyslog stops working after logrotate until restarted

2014-06-04 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
I also can confirm adding create 640 syslog adm to
/etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog fixes the problem.

@Gustavo, you should change the /etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog file from this:

/var/log/syslog
{
rotate 7
daily
missingok
notifempty
delaycompress
compress
postrotate
reload rsyslog /dev/null 21 || true
endscript
}

to this:

/var/log/syslog
{
rotate 7
daily
missingok
notifempty
delaycompress
compress
create 640 syslog adm
postrotate
reload rsyslog /dev/null 21 || true
endscript
}

and now you're ok.

And for the record, I also moved away from syslog-ng to rsyslog, so I
think it may cause this bug (perhaps a package's install/uninstall
script).

Yeah, I've forgot to do that, but I'm very confident those steps don't

And ok, I've played with DKMS before and seems easy to work with, so

[Bug 1127699] Re: Internal microphone does not working in Dell 3420 with Ubuntu Raring

2013-06-03 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Hello David,

Well, I've downloaded the last upstream drivers ('oem-audio-hda-daily-
dkms_0.201306031445~raring1_all.deb') and now the internal microphone
works perfectly!

I've tested the audio output (the notebook speakers), the included
internal microphone and they both work OK. I've plugged my headphones
w/included microphone and pulseaudio switchs between the two
input/output devices perfectly. I've tested with Skype (4.2) for
example, and everything is ok.

In brief, the problem with upstream drivers seem solved. What should we
do?

I'm attaching a new alsa-info.txt using alsa upstream drivers.

Here's the link for everyone else that wants to try them out:
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/alsa-daily/+packages?field.name_filter=field.status_filter=publishedfield.series_filter=raring

Thank you

2013-06-01 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Hello David,

I'm attaching both alsa-info text output log, executed in Ubuntu 12.10
and 13.04.

Vostro's 3360 Internal mic did work in 12.10, and didn't in 13.04,
confirmed.

[Bug 790183] Re: [138a:0011] Fingerprint reader Validity Sensors not recognized

Hi people,

The package seems to work perfectly!

Ubuntu 12.10, ID 138a:0011 Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS5011 Fingerprint
Reader device.

The Pavel's instructions lacked 8.5 - reboot the computer so the
device could be detected (maybe a sudo udev restart or something like
could work too).

Thank you!

[Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others

2013-02-13 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Hello Kevin/David,

It seems I'm having the same touchpad found in the Fujitsu A512. When
inserting the psmouse-alps-1.3.tbz module, I'm getting this in the
syslog, like Matt:

[ 3087.136231] psmouse serio1: alps: E6 report: 00 00 64
[ 3087.157739] psmouse serio1: alps: E7 report: 73 03 50
[ 3087.179634] psmouse serio1: alps: EC report: 73 02 02
[ 3087.182545] psmouse serio1: alps: ALPS: E7=73 03 50, EC=73 02 02
[ 3087.182551] psmouse serio1: alps: Unknown ALPS touchpad: E7=73 03 50, EC=73
02 02
[ 3087.959723] input: PS/2 Generic Mouse as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input28

I've tried Kevin's psmouse-alps-1.3-alt.tbz, but does not seems address
the issue. I can see the Touchpad tab of Mouse and Touchpad System
Settings, but scrolling doesn't work. And even when I'm inserting the
module with the -v parameter (like comment #242 is saying), I only get
this quiet output in the syslog:

[ 3500.941929] input: PS/2 Mouse as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input30
[ 3500.957477] input: AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input31

This is a Dell Vostro 3360. I can test other patches if you want, or
give more info about my laptop.

Thank you

[Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others

2013-02-13 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Hi Vince,

Ok, I've tried setting two-finger scrolling in the System Config, and
executed synclient FingerLow=5 FingerHigh=6, but despite I get *a very
little bit* of scrolling (in some rare cases), this is not useful at
all; most of the times I fail to scroll.

I saw you were posting evemu-record logs in that bug report, but I don't
know how to use it and find a FingerLow/FingerHigh acceptable values,
like you did. Could you give me some insights into this?

Hi, you either have to :
 - enable two-finger-scrolling (and then two-finger scrolling should work
 correctly without further settings)
 - enable edge scrolling with synclient FingerLow=5 FingerHigh=6

You can try to lower the values of FingerLow/GingerHigh. I got the values
straight from the kernel driver (I added some debug
messages while trying to debug my touchpad's driver) bug there are probably
many other ways to get them.

Hi Vince,

I'm answering from the bug report so everybody can see my results in a
Vostro 3360.

You're right about two-finger scrolling, it seems to work by default
(synclient -l gets configured with FingerLow=12/FingerHigh=15). I
figured out that it doesn't work _perfectly_ (I'm still getting frequent
pointer movements instead of scrolling up/down) if I use the middle
finger + ring finger. It works much better if I use the index finger +
middle finger nail instead (YMMV, of course).

On the other hand, the edge scrolling, even setting FingerLow=5
FingerHigh=6 does not work, or does it in very seldom cases.

Thank you!

[Bug 1003813] Re: Kernel Oops during mount.cifs (CIFS VFS: could not allocate crypto hmacmd5)

2012-10-23 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
I'm suffering this bug from a week or so, maybe after some Ubuntu 12.04

I've also tried to move my mount points from /etc/fstab to a manual

[Bug 874255] [NEW] Expo in multi-monitor (upside-down) shows corrupted

2011-10-14 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Public bug reported:

I'm using a fresh-install of Ubuntu 11.10 in a Intel 965GM video board,
with an external monitor connected, configured one above the other. The
problem is, when I activate the expo plugin to change the current
virtual desktop, the effect shows plainly wrong and corrupted, like in
the screenshot attached. Trying to change the virtual desktop (despite
the corruption) doesn't work.

The bug is *not* triggered with only one screen configured or with two
screens in a left-right configuration.

[Bug 579892] Re: libvirt should not use the MAC address assigned to tap devices/vnet interfaces by the TAP/TUN driver

2011-03-01 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
@Serge,

Yes, I've using that suggestion (pre-up ) in the
/etc/network/interfaces file of the KVM Host, and the interface freeze
problem disappeared since I added that line, a month ago.

I'd recommend to use it and check if it works for you too.

@Serge, where is located that PPA with Lucid's libvirt package fixed, so
I can test it too?

Do you know when this it's going to be SRU'd? It's been a lot of time
since Lucid (LTS) is out and this bug is *very* annoying. :-/

Thanks

I have another question,

Putting pre-up ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:01 in the
interfaces config file, like Carlos did, is a workaround to the bug?

Just to clarify :-)

[Bug 546653] Re: Dlink DWA-125 (07d1:3c0d) is processed by wrong module

2010-08-17 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
@Sundberg, I've installed that backports package, rebooted, and that way
I can't make this device work. It works perfectly if I make the
rt2870sta module to handle it, just like this forum thread says:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9700749

My DWA-125 Vendor:ID is 07d1:3c16. I haven't tried to recompile the
drivers from Ralink source because I saw the method documented in this
forum thread was easier to work with.

[Bug 497732] Re: Tar exited with error 512 () status

2010-02-22 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Well, to avoid the error state in backuppc I added --ignore-failed-
read to the tar command in localhost.pl [1]:

$Conf{TarClientCmd} = '/usr/bin/env LC_ALL=C $tarPath -c -v -f - -C $shareName'
. ' --totals --ignore-failed-read';

The fact is backuppc makes backup of localhost under backuppc system
user, not a sudoer one, not root (see the comment in localhost.pl...). I
don't know if this is right or not, but it's good to know that those
files (passwd, shadow, group, etc.), aren't copied in the process.

[Bug 327872] Re: Broken support for MPEG-TS: HDV and AVCHD (.mts/.m2ts) files

2010-02-20 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Well, I have movies recorded with a Panasonic Camera (.MTS extension)
and I have some issues (Karmic x86 and x86_64, two very different
machines):

- Nautilus doesn't generate a preview thumbnail. I did some mime-type hack (I
can't remember what exactly) and now Nautilus does thumbnails. I don't know if
this is fixed in Lucid.
- Totem (Gstreamer) plays MTS files very good, but with annoying A/V sync
problems (the video has 1 sec. or some of delay). I haven't found a bug of this
(should I create one?).
- VLC plays MTS fine too, synchronization is ok, but I see some artifacts,
which seems are fixed in trunk [1].

Hope this helps.

[Bug 367782] Re: External USB Hard Drive fails to mount on boot from fstab

2009-07-24 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Hi, is there any way to get rid of this problem easier?

Maybe allowing some init_delay=10 parameter in the options field,
inside /etc/fstab for that usb device entry, and make update-initramfs
to search for it when updating... (it's not a beautiful idea, right, but
maybe it's cleaner than the current workaround).

[Bug 325221] Re: Brasero 0.9.1 breaking non-English systems

2009-02-04 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Hi, just to add a me too comment. I have Brasero 0.9.1 installed from
backports in intrepid x86_64 and nautilus appears mostly in spanish (my
Gnome language), but with some strings in english. Please take a look at
the screenshot I've attached.

For example, these strings are wrong:
- File Browser instead of Explorador de archivos
- Places instead of Lugares
- Name instead of Nombre
- Location instead of Dirección
- Free space, items at the status bar.
- Empty Trash item in the File menu.
- All the toolbar buttons, except Recargar (Refresh in english) and
Equipo (Computer).

Thanks

[Bug 252094] Re: Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10

2008-11-18 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
XAA acceleration does not fixes the problem for me... I know glxgears
isn't a performance test, but with XAA enabled I only get ~30+ FPS...
and I'm still having the rendering problems (with Compiz or Metacity, it
doesn't matter).

To give you an example, I uploaded this screencast to youtube:

I'm suffering this problem, but installing the linux-backports-modules-

Ok, I installed the updated tzdata (from hardy-updates), and by now the

same problem!

/etc/localtime Sun Oct 18 03:00:00 2009 UTC = Sun Oct 18 01:00:00 2009 ARST

There are no plans from our government (Argentina) to set a DST this
summer... so this version of tzdata (2008g) should be corrected, and
updated again. :-\

By now, I had to force openssh-server to version 5ubuntu0.2 with

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-04 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
I can confirm this fix didn't work for me either, just like Datadog
recently said.

I'm using Ubuntu Hardy final for AMD64, a Nvidia 6600 board, with
Nvidia drivers from the Ubuntu repository. Moreover, I changed the
window decoration to Emerald, and I'm still experiencing the same
wonky-ness or 0% opacity (full transparency), so I think the
responsible could be the Nvidia drivers.

I have a Samsung 226nw (analog connection), which also does 1680x1050,
but Ubuntu sets the native resolution (1680x1050) perfectly at boot from
the Live CD. I'm using the nv driver.

[Bug 183547] Inkscape sould be linked against gtkspell

2008-01-16 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: inkscape

Ubuntu's Inkscape package seems not to be linked against gtkspell, to
spell-check the text nodes. This feature included in the vanilla
inkscape should be available to the user.

Look at the 0.39 changelog (Gutsy has Inkscape 0.45.1): # The text
editing box in the Text and Font dialog performs as-you-type spell
checking (requires GtkSpell, http://gtkspell.sourceforge.net/).

(Available in http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ReleaseNotes039)

The 'libgtkspell0' package already exists in my Ubuntu Gutsy box and
Inkscape doesn't check my texts... I run 'ldd /usr/bin/inkscape' and
libgtkspell doesn't appears in the list. But if I run:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ldd /usr/bin/pidgin | grep spell
libgtkspell.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgtkspell.so.0 (0xb7e28000)
libaspell.so.15 = /usr/lib/libaspell.so.15 (0xb728c000)

So, pidgin has the spell-checking enabled.

[Bug 56500] Re: netspeed: Netspeed applet has disabled device change

2007-01-29 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
I looked at the source code, and that disabled dropdown is related to
the last check (in that window), Always show a connected device if
possible.

If you uncheck Always show a connected device if possible, that
dropdown gets enabled, so you can select the device you want.

Regards,
Marcelo
