[Bug 1369808] Re: LibreOffice Calc crashes when sorting a range by column

2015-10-02 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Hi Frank,

It is not a typo, however, the bug is marked as "private". I think that
means that only I (the reporter) and the "debug team" (or whatever) have
access to it.

I think there's a policy that makes most (all?) bugs automatically
reported to be marked private since they may contain private information
in automatically generated dumps.

Or maybe, it is 'cause I posted an example spreadsheet to reproduce the
bug. It was not me who marked it private (I took an effort to erase all
private information from the spreadsheet).

Anyway, I'll copy here the information in the last three messages in
that bug that may help people with the same problem.

~penalvch said that the bug belonged upstream (into libreoffice's bug
report system).

I did NOT take the time to report it there but as of 2014-11-05 I got an
update from the standard ubuntu repositories with libreoffice 4.2.7
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:4.2.7-0ubuntu1) and
the bug was gone.

Scanning through the changelog I found a reference about changing the
default sorting behavior which I guess is what solved my problem.

HTH

Apparently, it was just a non-standard apache module which wasn't
disabled and was preventing apache from starting... everything else
seems to be working, sorry for the noise

The image Justin uploaded is the one from when the app starts, which is
somehow OK. However, after you press any of the tabs on the left side,
the righ pane background turns transparent, which makes it close to
unusable.

[Bug 1193201] Re: midori "default home page" returns a 404 as "Nonexistent File"

2014-10-21 Thread MarianoAbsatz
My guess is that the package ubuntu-artwork (which I have installed in
14.04) at some point lost the file /usr/share/ubuntu-
artwork/home/index.html

I don't know if there's something equivalent in a plain installation
(however I couldn't find any using a quick locate in my computer).

The ONLY thing needed is to change the default home page from

file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html

to whatever makes sense.

A stupid patch to change it for http://www.ubuntu.com is attached (I
don't know how to generate a correct debian patch, but any maintainer
with 10 minutes should be able to do this at least manually).

[Bug 1178689] Re: file .etckeeper modified and not autocommited

Well... today it happened again while trying to update packages via

lines changing places or something.

[Bug 1178689] Re: file .etckeeper modified and not autocommited

2013-05-13 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Well... I can't manually reproduce the changes since it happens after
upgrades from versions I of packages I can no longer obtain from the
repositories in order to reproduce it.

However, I guess an "hg log -v" might help you.

I'm attaching the head of the log (it shows newest change first, as most
source control logs do).

The problem happened after the following changesets:

611
609
605 (not quite sure)
603

[Bug 1178689] [NEW] file .etckeeper modified and not autocommited

2013-05-10 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

I've been using etckeeper with mercurial in all my hosts for a while
with the setting:

AVOID_DAILY_AUTOCOMMITS=1
AVOID_COMMIT_BEFORE_INSTALL=1

in order to know what I change manually (outside apt-get
install/upgrade).

However, with some frequency (usually when some post-install script
creates or deletes a file or it changes its properties), the file
/etc/.etckeeper is modified accordingly (during the apt-get process) and
this change is NOT commited, thus next time I run apt-get I get a
message preventing me for doing so only to find out (by running 'hg st')
that the only change was made to .etckeeper during the last apt-get run.

This happens regardles of the version of ubuntu or etckeeper.

** Affects: etckeeper (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1169380] Re: Alienware M11x fails to boot with 3.2.40 upgrade

2013-04-25 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Nishanth,

it is easier to enable precise-proposed and update the kernel.

You can do this even from update-manager: press the "Settings..."
button, go to the "Updates" tab and select "Pre-release updates
(precise-proposed)"; check for updates and then select only linux-
headers-3.2.0-41, linux-headers-3.2.0-41-generic and linux-
image-3.2.0-41-generic to update.

Afterwards, it is recommended that you DISABLE again "Pre-release
updates" and re-check the repositories so you don't inadvertedly install
pre-release packages you don't want to test.

** Description changed:

I just ran upgrade manager on my Dell Precision M4600 and it upgraded
the kernel to 3.2.0-40.64 from precise-updates (I was previously using
  3.2.0-39.62, also from precise-updates).

- Now it just doesn't boot in normal mode. It does so in recovery mode
- (and using the old 3.2.0-39), but when I choose 3.2.0-40 plain, it just
- goes black and I don't even see a line added to /var/log/syslog.

[Bug 1035098] Re: Also truncate nameserver list after a loopback address in resolv.conf.d/head

2012-09-21 Thread MarianoAbsatz
You're right, Thomas.

Thanx a lot for your help.

I thought that restarting the "networking" service would ifdown/ifup all
interfaces... well it does all of them BUT "lo" :)

I connected to the server through a terminal server and could test it
and it works fine now (I don't have phisical access and was afraid of
locking myself out of the server).

[Bug 1035098] Re: Also truncate nameserver list after a loopback address in resolv.conf.d/head

2012-09-20 Thread MarianoAbsatz
So... I add the 'dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1' entry to
/etc/network/interfaces but it seems to be completely ignored.

I tried adding it to the eth0 entry, to the loopback entry and to both,
and everytime I restart networking I get my ISP's nameserverrs on
/etc/resolv.conf.

My current /etc/network/interfaces file look like this:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1

[Bug 1048657] [NEW] consistent crash after saving file

2012-09-10 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

I started using gimp in a computer where I hadn't used it before. It's a
dell notebook with a clean 12.04 installation.

I can create and modify files in gimp, however, every time I save a
file, it takes a rather long time doing so and eventually, it crashes.

In my .xsession-errors I see the following every time (PID numbers
change, obviously):

[Bug 1035098] [NEW] TRUNCATE_NAMESERVER_LIST_AFTER_LOOPBACK_ADDRESS envvar ignored in /etc/default/resolvconf

2012-08-09 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

I created a /etc/default/resolvconf file with the option:
TRUNCATE_NAMESERVER_LIST_AFTER_LOOPBACK_ADDRESS="yes"
in it.

The contents of /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head are:

# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN

# local resolver (unbound)

However, after rebooting, I still get my ISP's DNS servers below mine.

[Bug 1035076] [NEW] missing directory /etc/resolvconf/run

2012-08-09 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

At some point what used to be /etc/resolvconf/run moved to
/run/resolvconf.

I don't know if this is because of some LSB requirement or what. The
point is that there seems to be parts of ubuntu that long for the old
location:

 $ sudo invoke-rc.d networking restart
 * Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not
enable again some interfaces
 * Reconfiguring network interfaces...

/etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnscache: 94: /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnscache:
cannot create /etc/resolvconf/run/dnscache_new.19373: Directory nonexistent
run-parts: /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnscache exited with return code 2
ssh stop/waiting
ssh start/running, process 19462

I think that either the /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnscache script should
be patched taking this into account or we could create a symlink to the
new location:

sudo ln -s ../../run/resolvconf /etc/resolvconf/run

2012-08-04 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Hi vorlon,

thanks again for your message. I just tried to convert this bug into a
question but launchpad wouldn't let me since it seems that should've
been done before turning it into invalid.

Please don't rush an answer since, at least for me, it is now more of a
will for understanding what happens than a bug in need of a fix.

Quoting http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/man8/resolvconf.8.html
section PUBLICATION:
Normally resolvconf is run only by hook scripts attached to network
interface configurers such as pppd(8) (for ppp interfaces), to DHCP
clients such as dhclient(8), to ifup(8) and ifdown, and to DNS caches
such as dnsmasq(8) (for the loopback interface). These hook scripts
furnish resolvconf with information about nameservers. For example,
dhclient receives one or more nameserver addresses during its
negotiation with the DHCP server; its hook script /etc/dhcp/dhclient-
enter-hooks.d/resolvconf pushes this information to resolvconf.

>From this paragraph I understand that resolvconf is invoked by dhclient.

Below that, in section PUBLICATION:

The most important piece of software that subscribes to the
notification service is the set of functions that make up the GNU C
Library resolver(3). When nameserver information is updated, the
   script/etc/resolvconf/update.d/libcwritesa new resolver
configuration file to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf and then runs the
scripts in /etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/. To make the resolver use
the dynamically generated resolver configuration file the administrator
should ensure that /etc/resolv.conf is a symbolic link to
/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf. This link is never modified by
resolvconf(8). If you find that /etc/resolv.conf is not being updated,
check to make sure that the link is intact.

>From this paragraph I understand that resolvconf modifies
/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf AND NOT /etc/resolv.conf

After reading these two paragraph I thought (though I can be wrong)
that:

1) dhclient doesn't handle /etc/resolv.conf directly but, instead, invokes
resolvconf
2) resolvconf NEVER modifies /etc/resolv.conf but, instead, modifies
/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

3) (implied by me) If dhclient doesn't modify /etc/resolv.conf directly
AND neither does resolvconf, then, if /etc/resolv.conf is NOT a symlink
to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf, no one (at least not dhclient or
resolvconf) would mess with it (at least on a small server with hardly
any non-official-ubuntu software installed/configured).

Stéphane's article at http://www.stgraber.org/2012/02/24/dns-in-
ubuntu-12-04/ also implies something similar (although he clearly
doesn't recommend it) when he writes:

 * I really don’t want resolvconf, how can I disable it?
I certainly wouldn’t recommend disabling resolvconf
but you can do it by making /etc/resolv.conf a regular
   file instead of a symlink.
Though please note that you may then be getting
inconsistent /etc/resolv.conf when multiple software are
   fighting to change it.

Since I thought the only piece of software that might be "fighting" for
it was dhclient and I had that covered by 3) above, I went ahead.

>
>> Who/what are using resolvconf, then?
>
> By default, when /etc/resolv.conf is not a symlink, nothing is.

Does this imply that dhclient checks whether /etc/resolv.conf is a
symlink and, if true, it calls resolvconf and otherwise, it messes with
/etc/resolv.conf directly?

Maybe then I have to mess with dhclient and convince it NOT to handle
/etc/resolv.conf at all.

Thanks for your help, vorlon.

So Network Manager and dhclient are NOT currently invoking resolvconf,
BUT they're actually handling /etc/resolv.conf by themselves?

This is not what the manpage implies (or what I understand form it)

Who/what are using resolvconf, then?

[Bug 1032855] [NEW] resolvconf modifies real file /etc/resolv.conf in lieu of /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

2012-08-03 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

I manually compiled and installed the unbound DNS resolver on my 12.04
server (upgraded from a 10.04).

Yesterday, after reading http://www.stgraber.org/2012/02/24/dns-in-
ubuntu-12-04/ and
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/man8/resolvconf.8.html I
took the "minimum breakage path" and simply erased the symlink
/etc/resolv.conf (which points to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf) and
created a plain file for /etc/resolv.conf using ::1 as my only resolver.

However, today I found that the file /etc/resolv.conf had been rewritten
with the same contents it had before.

Checking a little I found the file modification time was 12:35 and found
the following on my syslog:

Aug 3 12:35:40 abako dhclient: DHCPREQUEST of 66.228.40.90 on eth0 to
207.192.68.72 port 67
Aug 3 12:35:40 abako dhclient: DHCPACK of 66.228.40.90 from 207.192.68.72
Aug 3 12:35:40 abako dhclient: bound to 66.228.40.90 -- renewal in 38228
seconds.

So, the primary cuplrit seems to be resolvconf.

What's more, the file modification time for /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf
is on June 20th (the day I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04.

So, IMHO, either resolvconf has a bug or the following paragraph of its
manpage is plain wrong:

The most important piece of software that subscribes to the
notification service is the set of functions that make up the GNU C
Library resolver(3). When nameserver information is updated, the
   script/etc/resolvconf/update.d/libcwritesa new resolver
configuration file to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf and then runs the
scripts in /etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/. To make the resolver use
the dynamically generated resolver configuration file the administrator
should ensure that /etc/resolv.conf is a symbolic link to
/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf. This link is never modified by
resolvconf(8). If you find that /etc/resolv.conf is not being updated,
check to make sure that the link is intact.

FWIW, resolvconf's version is 1.63ubuntu14

[Bug 857326] Re: Display language not set properly in Lubuntu

Is it possible that lxdm is not even reading /etc/profile?

I'm using lxdm 0.3.0-0ubuntu5 (in natty) and I just added a line like

Am I doing something wrong?

[Bug 743377] [NEW] upgrade 10.04 -> 10.10 fails

2011-03-26 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Process stops at the end of 'setting new software channels' issuing a 'Could
not determine the upgrade' window.
I'm not upgrading to a pre-release version nor running a pre-release version.

To my best knowledge, I uninstalled reasonable unofficial packages and
reinstalled all xserver-* packages (which seem to be the problem
according to what I see in /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log.

[Bug 424462] Re: apt-mirror won't delete it's lock-file on exit

2010-04-27 Thread MarianoAbsatz
any chance that 0.4.6-0-ubuntu4 appears on karmic? (or karmic-updates or
karmic-backports?)
Current 0.4.6-0ubuntu3 karmic package still has this bug.

[Bug 380322] Re: sane based hplib dll backend scanning broken

2010-04-19 Thread MarianoAbsatz
I can confirm this happening on Karmic.

One thought, though... The scanner driver was added by a script that
warned me about installing a propietary plugin, so I don't know if the
bug might lie within the plugin manager (or whatever it is).

[Bug 474633] [NEW] svn client ignores the setting ssl-trust-default-ca

2009-11-04 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: subversion

AFAIK, this happens since 'forever'... I've been using svn with my own
CA at least since Gutsy and this always happened.

I set (either in my personal ~/.subversion/servers, or in the global
/etc/subversion/servers config file) the following:

ssl-trust-default-ca = yes

I've added my CA to the openssl instalation and properly run "dpkg-reconfigure
ca-certificates", and I see the entries for my CA certificate in
/etc/ssl/certs... however, the client ALWAYS complain.

I can avoid this if I manually add EVERY CA I want to use to

ssl-authority-files =

but this is a LIST that won't take a directory name or wildcards in it.

Now I'm using a certificate actually signed by Equifax and it still not
recognized by svn (firefox, epiphany and thunderbird did recognize it,
but at least tb and ff don't use the default openssl CA certs but their
own)...

I don't know if this is because of an upstream problem or an ubuntu
configuration problem, but it certainly doesn't work.

karmic-updates?... I wouldn't like to have to manually build the package
every time samba gets updated :-(

[Bug 453165] Re: Argentina does not change to DST this (2009-10-18) sunday

2009-10-26 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Hi Martin,

tzdata2009p is out today so argentinas-dst-2009.diff will no longer be
necessary.

Other fix regarding Argentina is included for the special case of the
Provincia de San Luis.

Regards.

2009-10-18 Thread MarianoAbsatz
To whoever has the disgrace to administer different windows versions,
have fun with this instructions: http://www.microsoft.com/argentina/dst/

Obviously, the instructions to fix (even manually) Ubuntu 9.10, 9.04,
8.10 and 8.04 are identical.. in fact, they are the same as with any
other unix-like system (including Sun Solaris, FreeBSD and a bunch
others)

[Bug 453165] Re: Argentina does not change to DST this (2009-10-18) sunday

2009-10-18 Thread MarianoAbsatz
(English below)

mama21mama,

ENGLISH VERSION:
mama21mama complains in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/453165/comments/20 that
even when he/she has configured manual handling of the time, his/her clock
changed to DST at 0:00 today.

To which I answered:

the problem is that "manual" here refers to "not syncing time to
internet time servers" (NTP). However, the timezone adjustment is ALWAYS
done (based on the rules called "America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires" you
have configured according to the image).

Those rules, until yesterday, when Martin Pitt published the new
packages based on a patch for Margarita Manterola for Debian (even
BEFORE that is acutally published upstream at
ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/), said that today at 0:00 we had to go one
hour back.

In Unix/Linux, normally "system time" is kept in UTC (Greenwich) and a
conversion table between UTC and every place's localtime is maintained.
On the contrary, in Windows, "system time" is the local time, which
makes dificult to handle computers used from different places, and
changes are rather traumatic (especially if you have to do it
"backwards", after the fact, as you will have to do now).

If you update the tzdata package now, you will surely see the right time
(you will have to logout/login back for your desktop clock to read the
right time).

Just dpkg -i'd the Squeeze/Sid/Karmic on my Jaunty and it works OK...

They should be just fine in Hardy and Intrepid too (the packages are
simply data, not code).

[Bug 453165] Re: Argentina does not change to DST this (2009-10-18) sunday

2009-10-16 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Hi,

Margarita Manterola (the debian maintainer who posted the debian
patches) kindly posted the complete .deb packages for tzdata and tzdata-
java:

* Etch: http://www.marga.com.ar/~marga/debian/tzdata/tzdata_2009g-
0etch1.1_all.deb

* Lenny:
http://www.marga.com.ar/~marga/debian/tzdata/tzdata_2009l-0lenny1.1_all.deb
y
http://www.marga.com.ar/~marga/debian/tzdata/tzdata-java_2009l-0lenny1.1_all.deb

* Squeeze/Sid/Karmik:
http://www.marga.com.ar/~marga/debian/tzdata/tzdata_2009n-1.1_all.deb
y http://www.marga.com.ar/~marga/debian/tzdata/tzdata-java_2009n-1.1_all.deb

My guess is that the Squeeze/Sid/Karmik packages are good for Jaunty
too.
