[Bug 1585332] Re: Graphical snaps don't honour the desktop theme

2018-06-20 Thread Mark Dammer
Please fix ASAP: Ubuntu is often praised for "Accessibility".
"Honouring" dark themes is an absolute MUST for this. I have an eye
condition where it is recommended to use a dark desktop theme in order
to put less light stress on the retina.

[Bug 1589810] Re: package libcuda1-361 361.45.11-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: there is no script in the new version of the package - giving up

2016-06-07 Thread Mark Dammer
I am having the same problem with libcuda1-364 and nvidia-graphics-
drivers-364. I found other reports about people experiencing this with
even other driver versions (340) as well. It looks to me that this is
bug affects (almost) all nvidia driver versions. I propose the package
maintainers to block this update immediately as it renders the machines
unusable and it does not seem to be an easy task for an unexperienced
user to fix.

[Bug 601750] Re: cwirc does not work with pulseaudio natively

2014-10-26 Thread Mark Dammer
As running Xirc with padsp won't solve the problem I created this simple
wrapper script. Simply put it into /usr/local/bin and make it
executable. Because /usr/local/bin is parsed before /usr/bin, Xirc's
call of cwirc_frontend will call the wrapper with the same name. The
wrapper then calls the original cwirc_frontend program with all argumens
and padsp.

The cwirc_frontend wrapper just contains these two lines:

#!/bin/bash
padsp /usr/bin/cwirc_frontend $@

** Attachment added: wrapper script to be put into /usr/local/bin

[Bug 996791] Re: Xubuntu 12.04 extremely slow login

2012-10-13 Thread Mark Dammer
Interesting are the things (at least in my situation) that make the
problem NOT happen:

- logging in with an account that is not having an encrypted homedrive.
- no network connection during login. This one is interesting:
Usually applications like Synaptic that need a root password show the same
annoying delay before the enter password dialog show up. But when I unplug
the network I cannot only login to my encrypted account without a delay, but
applications like Synaptic show no delay, even when I have connected to the
network again.
My conclusion is that something goes wrong during login. If that goes wrong the
whole session is suffering - including logout. If the login is o.k. everything
is fine - regardless of network connection etc.

2012-07-25 Thread Mark Dammer
Many more system parts are affected by this problem on my machine:
- I get the same delay when I start synaptic from the menu - about 90 seconds
until I am asked to enter my password.
- Enabling Gnome services in XFCE settings completely messes up the system on
logout:
At first I get a black screen for about 90 seconds.
Then I get a black screen with mouse cursor for a further 90 seconds
Then I get a lightdm login screen WITHOUT MY USER LISTED

[Bug 581773] [NEW] snd-virmidi should by default blocked to become default card

Public bug reported:

loading snd-virmidi with the default settings can lead to lots of audio trouble
as it can become the default card (index 0).
It is very unlikely that anyone ever wants the virtual midi device as card 0.

[Bug 580537] [NEW] Lucid: Excessive disk activity when unpacking packages

2010-05-14 Thread Mark Dammer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

The unpacking stage causes loads of rattling disk activity when installing
packages with dpkg on Lucid. Because of this problem the package installation
takes much longer and puts much more stress on the harddisk than on Karmic or
Hardy. I am observing this on several machines - the problem is much more
obvious on slower machines.
This is not related to faulty harddrives - I am observing it on three machines
with different HDs. The rattling sound makes me think that the problem might be
related to improper caching and dpkg trying to operate on the disk blockwise.
I am not observing similar problems with other applications.

[Bug 519229] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 PPC image does not fit on standard CD

2010-02-09 Thread Mark Dammer
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu 9.10 PPC iso image is too big (705Mb) to fit on a standard
80min. CD (702Mb). The live CD is a very good tool for diagnosis and
repair, but many old Macs do not have a DVD drive so it is not possible

[Bug 509614] [NEW] German Apple Aluminium Keyboard wrongly mapped

2010-01-19 Thread Mark Dammer
Public bug reported:

The German keyboard layout (mac nodeadkeys) is wrong when using an apple
alumimium keyboard is wrong.

The biggest disadvantage is that the and keys are not accessible
by default. A great setback for every developer who has to use these
keys regularly!

Here is the modification of the mac nodeadkeys mapping:

// original mappings
// key TLDE   { [ asciicircum,degree, notsign   ] };
// key BKSL   { [ numbersign, apostrophe,   grave   ] };
// new mappings to get greater and lesser characters
key TLDE  { [ less, greater, sterling   ] };
key LSGT  { [ asciicircum,degree, notsign   ] };

As many users complain about wrong key mapping on these keyboards I
suggest that a new keyboard class Apple Aluminium with proper mappings
for all languages or something similar is introduced.
