[Bug 1080665] Re: At minimum window width, search field is hidden by Progress

2013-06-11 Thread Matija Polajnar
In my opinion, this is a serious usability issue. I am a computer
engineer, yet I struggled to find the search box for quite some time
(that is, until the progress icon disappeared).

[Bug 961977] Re: Launcher shows arrows for applications on all workspaces

2012-07-24 Thread Matija Polajnar
I agree with #2 and #3. I often have two or three Firefox windows on
different workspaces. If I want to switch from one to another, I need to
manually switch workspaces, whereas if there is another application open
only on another workspace, I can switch to that one using the icon in
the launcher. That is unituitive.

[Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?

2012-02-28 Thread Matija Polajnar
Decisions like this made me leave Ubuntu with Unity for Xubuntu. I mean,
what's the point in using a CPU and GPU-intensive shell when it does a
way worse job than Xfce + Gnome-do?

I understand that overabundance of features clutters GUIs and
complicates maintenance. However, this feature already has a GUI element
(for switching between 'always show' and 'autohide'), and I don't think
this feature complicates code more than it gives advantage to us,
advanced users.

I mean, you can target your OS for average Joes, but they won't install
it by themselves anyway; we, advanced users, will do it for them and we
won't unless we use (and therefore know) the system ...

[Bug 476662] Re: Notifications use append instead of replace

2011-04-20 Thread Matija Polajnar
I hope I am not reviving an old bug unnecessarily. On my Ubuntu 11.04
Beta (fresh install of Beta 1, now all packages updated to newest
version), Empathy shows one notification per message, which means the
next message gets shown no sooner than when the notification for the
previous one timeouts. I would expect the next message from the same
person get appended to the old one in the existing notification, like
with Pidgin on Ubuntu 10.10 I used previously. Are my expectations
correct, ie. should this bug be reopened?

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-12-31 Thread Matija Polajnar
Since no conclusions have been drawn regarding the cause of this issue,
I'll add my two cents.

I have a laptop (Intel graphics) and a desktop (ATI graphics), both
running 10.10 with Compiz and IIRC both have been upgraded from previous
releases (if it is important -- is there any way to check this?). No
dual boot on any of them. I experience this problem only on laptop.
Coincidentally, I also change resolution regularly only on laptop when
docking it, making it use an external monitor. Also, only laptop is ever
suspended, desktop is always powered off.

When I experience this problem on the laptop, killall -HUP gnome-panel
always fixes it (I believe).

[Bug 557367] Re: I can't change my nickname.

2010-05-06 Thread Matija Polajnar
Well, that's easy:
 - Install msn-pecan.
 - In empathy, add an account with msn-pecan protocol.
 - Choose Edit - Personal data in the menu (I'm translating that from my
language and may not be correct).
 - Edit the nickname for the newly created account, then click Close.
 - Again, open the Personal data dialog. The nickname is again equal to the
e-mail address. Also, in conversations the e-mail address is shown when you
send a message, not the desired nickname.

[Bug 217504] Re: acpi_fakekey stopped working for certain keycodes

2008-11-25 Thread Matija Polajnar
Thanks for your effort, Tom.

Sorry to bring you bad news, but I have tried your (i386) acpi-support
package on my Thinkpad R52 (where most keys work on Intrepid, but
Access IBM key doesn't), but after installation at least the volume
buttons ceased to work too (don't even show up on xev). I tried to
reboot, too, but that didn't help.

I've since reverted to the default intrepid version (and volume buttons
started to work again immediately). If there's any output/status/log
you'd like to see, I'd be happy to help (although I'm a bit busy, so it
might take a few days).

[Bug 205761] Re: [hardy beta] thinkpad contrast/brightness issue

2008-04-17 Thread Matija Polajnar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 198476 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198476

Bug #198476 (of which this bug is supposed to be a duplicate of) is said
to be fixed with kernel 2.6.24-16, however I do experience this problem
as well.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -r
2.6.24-16-generic

1. First lowering of brightness
  a) Screen brightness lowers one step for each keypress.
  b) OSD correctly shows the screen brightness.

2. Increasing screen brightness
  a) Screen brightness increases one step for each keypress.
  b) OSD doesn't appear.

3. Second lowering of brightness (only one keypress)
  a) Screen brigtness lowers one step under the last OSD indication, so one
step under the lowest used setting so far.
  b) OSD indicates the real screen brightness.

So (ignoring the cosmetical non-compiz-style OSD part of the bug) is
this really a duplicate?

[Bug 85748] Re: No support for SMAPI battery

2007-06-12 Thread Matija Polajnar
If you look into the Makefile, you notice it looks for kernel source in
/lib/modules/$(KVER)/source, where $(KVER) is `uname -r`.
So you should make a symbolic link named 'source' that links to your kernel
source location. In my case:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /lib/modules/`uname -r`/source
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 2007-05-29 20:17
/lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/source - /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.20

[Bug 85748] Re: No support for SMAPI battery

2007-05-13 Thread Matija Polajnar
I've done that as well (as I wanted to retain this functionality) and I would
like those modules to be included in distribution as they have been before
Feisty.
I apologize for misunderstanding you; I thought you were trying to tell that
there are better ways of managing battery than those modules. I've obviously
misread your sentence...

[Bug 57147] Re: Screen is garbled after lid close open on Thinkpad Z60m

2007-04-21 Thread Matija Polajnar
I have the same problem with Thinkpad R52 with Intel i915 graphics.
The problem persists after full upgrade to Feisty, and the above solution with
vt switching seems NOT to help.
Any more ideas?

[Bug 29622] Re: Firefox does not print the headers and footers.

2007-01-26 Thread Matija Polajnar
Well, for an example I printed this page with firefox to my default
printer with default settings, but I checked the print to file
checkbox, so I can show the results. I converted the ps into a pdf.

My printer cannot print that close to the edges, that's one thing.
I can set bigger edges in File-Print-Properties and it works.
I suspect default edges (0.04) are set in inches, but on my system are
interpreted as millimeters. Is that possible?

However, I STILL (after all those years of mozilla developers fighting
this point of view) regard not being able to set up any advanced options
(such as duplex printing) from GUI _AND_ having to use a completely
different print dialog compared to other, more gnome-integrated parts of
the system, a total usability failure

[Bug 29622] Re: Firefox does not print the headers and footers.

2006-09-25 Thread Matija Polajnar
I believe the problem is with the printer: firefox, by default, prints
headers and footers very close to the edge of the paper and many
consumer printers do not support printing on the edges.

Anyhow, printing in Firefox in Linux should be improved (setting edges is
unreliable, you cannot set any useful printer options, ...), if not by the
Firefox team, maybe Ubuntu developers could take the job?
I don't know about xprint, but AFAIK Ubuntu build has xprint disabled. Does it
feature a more complete printer-options interface?
