[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2013-04-28 Thread Mercer Rivière
Dell Inspiron 1520 and Ubuntu 12.04. Upgraded from previous LTS where it worked.
Shutdown isn't working. Nvidia here, I will not remove it as I don't believe
there is a relationship - it may only be a workaround.
I intend to stay on this LTS. I refuse to change any BIOS settings as it worked
previously.

Other, perhaps unrelated:
- Sometimes X11 have 100% CPU and everything freezes
- ctrl-alt-f1 does not show a text terminal
- often kernel oopses, more info here:

[Bug 997075] Re: XOrg uses 100% CPU after upgrade to 12.04 and freezes computer

2013-04-08 Thread Mercer Rivière
I confirm.
100% CPU by Xorg, sometimes segfaults (it restarts Xorg).
I'm using binary nvidia drivers, not nouveau

I did a previous-LTS to current-LTS upgrade. Prior to that it worked.

[Bug 1154006] Re: 12.04 freezes many times daily

2013-04-07 Thread Mercer Rivière
Btw. I did not experience it on the previous LTS, which shipped with
2.6.x kernel. This feature arrived with kernel from the latest LTS.

Please search for kernel panics in kern.log.

This is almost certainly a kernel bug, not browser, not X (although this
one segfaults from time to time as well - a separate problem).

[Bug 1154006] Re: 12.04 freezes many times daily

2013-03-23 Thread Mercer Rivière
I'm unable to ssh to my machine because it's desktop computer and when I
use it I do not have physical access to any other machine (I will be
able to verify it next week, though).

But... This is the same issue: screen+keyboard freezes, yet e.g. skype
works so if I'm connected and speak with someone, I still hear him, can
speak, etc Just keyboard+screen is hung.

So this is a similar issue - but pretty much the same ;)

Also, please check your /var/log/kern.log*

As for me: I'm using kubuntu (Xorg), no compiz; nvidia proprietary
drivers.

I will add: not always it seems to be caused by nvidia. But always
concerns irq's. Most certainly a flawed driver.

[Bug 958174] Re: Wireless Mouse not registered on Startup or Reboot

2013-01-10 Thread Mercer Rivière
I don't have a same configuration, but LTS on 5 machines (two DELL
laptops, one very old DELL workstation, one recent HP Z820 and a desktop
which is hard to describe), out of them, only on a single one (the last
desktop) the problem manifests itself.

[Bug 958174] Re: Wireless Mouse not registered on Startup or Reboot

2013-01-07 Thread Mercer Rivière
For me works an USB extension cable - the plug is close to the keyboard
(which is on PS/2, great!) and makes plug/unpluging more easy.

Can we make that an official fix?

[Bug 958174] Re: Wireless Mouse not registered on Startup or Reboot

2012-12-28 Thread Mercer Rivière
Btw, as for the (WIRED!) mouse, the difference is with these modules in
before/after plug/unplug:
+usbmouse 12666 0
+usbhid 41937 0
+hid77428 1 usbhid

So I guess it's not hid_logitech_dj's cause...

OK. But are you sure? The other bugreport (and kernel's bugzilla) seems
to supersede that one here.

[Bug 990870] Re: External USB keyboard not working in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-09 Thread Mercer Rivière
I confirm this, update from the previous release (clean install).
Workaround is to unplug and plug the affected usb mouse again, which is then
detected.
Actually, googling reveals this affects quite a lot of people. I believe it's
not very pleasant surprise for a usual user.
