[Bug 458952] Re: [needs-packaging] ec168 DVB-T chipset drivers + firmware

2009-10-30 Thread Michael Gefen
this process on Karmic (9.10) creates the DVB device in /dev/ and not it
/dev/dvb/

this can be resolved by using what is described in the following thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1278275

there is a typo in the udev rule.
it should be:

KERNEL==dvb*, PROGRAM=/etc/udev/scripts/dvb.sh %k, NAME=%c

[Bug 96809] Re: Desktop and keyboard stop responding

2009-06-19 Thread Michael Gefen
i have similar behavior.
i use ubuntu 9.04, 32bit.

please advice how can this be investigated.

what i have tried:
1. switching to TTY - not working
2. using the mouse - the mouse moves, but no response for clicks, and NOT
leaving trails.
3. using the keyborad - not working
4. animation on the desktop (clock, monitors, etc) - not updated
5. SSH from remote system - works
6. graphical environment can be killed with -9 switch and restarted, although
the system becomes unstable.

i used the folowing manual (safe configuration)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582

[Bug 357732] Re: cups always prints with the default page size

2009-04-27 Thread Michael Gefen
the attached file was printed using evince and acrobat 9

in acrobat:
acrobat reported the following command (when making printer settings)
lpr -P HL-2030-series -o PrintoutMode=Normal -o InputSlot=Default -o
PageSize=A4 -o PageRegion=A4 -o Duplex=None -o Quality=FromPrintoutMode

and the printout came fine.

in evince:
the page was cut on all edges after when printing at 100% scale
and on bottom left when printing at 50% scale

in firefox and openoffice:
the printout seems to be fine.

i would also like to note that i performed the test that you offered here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/293832/comments/20

the results were different, and the parameters that affected the printout were:
-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842

[Bug 357732] Re: cups always prints with the default page size

2009-04-27 Thread Michael Gefen
i tested the new pstopdf.
it did not resolve the problem for me.

i don't really understand the way cups work but i decided to give a try to
pstopdf that worked for me
(a very dirty hack)
so i copied it from cups 1.3.9-2_i386 package (the original that came with
intrepid) and it resolved the problem with the cups test page.
it did not resolve the issue with printing from evince.
maybe evince problem is related to the fact that the Paper type in Print
dialogue (page setup tab) is disabled. and i should file a separate bug about
it.

the pstopdf i used is attached for convenience.

on my previous tests (

to date. thus i conclude that it is a regression in cups.

[Bug 296327] Re: smb:/// No application is registered as handling this file

2009-04-02 Thread Michael Gefen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 9372 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9372

regarding the original bug report:

i resolved this issue in ubuntu by using those commands:

$ gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command
'nautilus %s'
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/enabled true
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/need-terminal
false

i thing that this information should be in the gnome config in the first
place.

this adds nautilus as smb:// protocol handler.

oh, and i don't think this is a samba issue, at least not the first part
of the report.

[Bug 293832] Re: printer prints page at wrong position, page cut

2009-03-14 Thread Michael Gefen
i tested this issue against the latest purposed (in 8.10) :
cups-1.3.9-2ubuntu8

the page is still printed off margins.

using the est page from cups (the one with rulers) give the following
information it Imageable area:

using cups 1.3.9-2

page size: 7.76x11.3in
 192.2x286.9mm
lower-left: 0.25x0.2in
 6.4x5.1mm
upper-right: 8.01x11.5in
 203.5x292.0mm
resolution: 600x600dpi
 23562x23562dpm

using cups 1.3.9-2ubuntu8

page size: 2.26x11.7in
 209.9x297.1mm
lower-left: 0.0x0.0in
 0x0mm
upper-right: 2.26x11.7in
 209.9x297.1mm
resolution: 600x600dpi
 23562x23562dpm

in both tests, the same PPD was used (Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/hpijs
(recommended)) with HL-2030 printer

it seems that the newer cups ignore the margin settings in the ppd.
a photo of both printouts attached.

[Bug 303769] Re: Ubuntu forgets” my key board layout sometimes

2009-01-13 Thread Michael Gefen
i'm not sure if it is related.

i use 3 layouts us, il, ru (phonetic) configured via gnome language
applet and set there system wide.

occasionally the system forgets my layouts and wont allow me to switch:
1. i don't have the layouts listed under groups menu (right click on the layout
icon)
2. my shortcut don't work

BUT
when i enter the layout settings i DO see the configured layouts.

the functionality is restored when i remove the layouts and add them
again.

i'll try to fine a constant way of reproducting the issue

[Bug 310835] [NEW] nm-applet does not save settings

2008-12-23 Thread Michael Gefen
Public bug reported:

when making a new connection using:

Wireless Security: Dynamic WEP (802.1x)
Authentication: PEAP
PEAP Version: 0
Inner Authentication: MD5

after once connecting i was no longer able to connect, and every attempt
to save settings reverted the Inner Authentication to MSCHAPv2.

thus i conclude that the actual connection attempt is made using
MSCHAPv2, instead of MD5.

is there any way to see the actual settings used during connection?

[Bug 262980] Re: Keyboard layout selection in kde screen saver (locked workstation)

2008-09-18 Thread Michael Gefen
resolution:

1. enabling keyboard layouts in System Settings (3.5.10) will also enable the
language indicator in the lock screen, but then the xorg.conf settings will be
overwritten with the KDE settings (and kkbdswich will be useless)
2. in kde 4.1 (whatever is in interpid alpha 4 CD) it is possible to enable the
language indicator WITHOUT enabling KDE language management (xorg.conf is
setting the layouts, and KDE only show the current) will add the language
indicator to lock screen.

question:
is it possible to backport the the option to enable the indicator without
enabling the language managment of KDE?

Public bug reported:

after installing Kubuntu 7.10 the multimedia volume keys (Volume

when using them, the volume popup does appear, but the volume change
only from 0% to 11% without changing any actual volume settings.

the volume settings from KMIX does work.

Re: [Bug 105899] Re: KNetworkManager Should support TKIP under WPA Enterprise

2007-08-22 Thread Michael Gefen
you have changed the description of the bug, as mentioned.
but the main problem is the absence of any selection in the WPA
enterprise dialog.
IMHO it should be:
KNetworkManager Should support key type selection under WPA Enterprise

(and the dialog should have the options available: TJIP, Dynamic WEP,
etc)
