I also encountered this issue, Ubuntu 21.10. Workaround proposed by
Mario Di Nicola (warp99) worked for me as well (editing the python
script to import GTK 3.0).

[Bug 1878974] Re: Unable to use HP USB Printer in Ubuntu 20.04 - apear to be hplip issues

2020-06-23 Thread Michael Johnson
I was unable to get driverless printing working from local machine.

I was able to get driverless printing working from Network, but to
configure this printer on a WiFi network I required a different computer
with working software (was able to borrow a Windows system with working
software).

Once the printer was on the network (WiFi in this case) I was able to
get basic driverless printing working.

HP software still not working, and USB printing still not working.

- Remove your current print queues with the command:
  lpadmin -x QUEUE_NAME
Replace QUEUE_NAME by the name of your print queue, as it is shown in the
output of "lpstat -v"
-> done

- Unplug the printer from USB and re-plug it. Does a new print queue get
created ("lpstat -v" should show it)? Can you print using this queue?

It did not, it looks like app armor issues in the dmesg log:

"/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp"

But it actually exists (i didn't copy it)

~$ ls -al /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22832 Mar 31 23:51 /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp

Anyway as requested, "dpkg -l | grep hplip" output:

~$ dpkg -l | grep hplip

[Bug 1878974] Re: Unable to use HP USB Printer in Ubuntu 20.04 - apear to be hplip issues

2020-05-16 Thread Michael Johnson
It looks several others have been having problems with hplip in 20.04

Answer 690278 is similar.
As I already noted Answer 690720 is also similar.

I have attempted to purge all references to hplip and re-install the
packages included in 20.04 (which install 3.20.3) but that does not seem
to change the results shown above.

I'm noticing in the logs error reports
"
Printer Backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp does not exist!15 May 2020 10:52:34 AM
PDT -
"

For my specific issue will see if I can obtain these files from another
system I have as it looks like many people use the hp installer to
repair/replace these missing files (but as noted above the HP installer
even version 3.20.5) is not currently passing checks in Ubuntu 20.04

[Bug 1878974] [NEW] Unable to use HP USB Printer in Ubuntu 20.04 - apear to be hplip issues

2020-05-15 Thread Michael Johnson
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am unable to connect and print with a HP USB Pinter on Ubuntu 20.04,
Spent some time troubleshooting with the default (previously current) drivers
hplip ver. 3.20.3 , but Ubuntu 20.04 does not seem to be supported officially
due to missing dependencies. Errors about missing pyqt4 dependencies among
others.

When using the hplip ver. 3.20.3 from the Ubuntu Repo printer is found
but fails to print.

Just noticed similar bug filed, 690720 , and saw note that new hplip
ver. 3.20.5 was just released and supports Ubuntu 20.04

When trying to install new package hplip ver. 3.20.5 with the .run
script provided by HP I am unable to complete installatoin as it reports
unmet dependency of pyqt5 , even though package python3-pyqt5 is
installed on system.

https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip

Maybe the repo just needs to be updated with a newer build (3.20.5) to
install on my system, or is there something that can be done in the
meantime.

Below hp-check -t when using the repo hplip ver. 3.20.3 ,

[Bug 1870981] Re: u-boot environment modification does not work raspberry 4 with eoan

2020-04-19 Thread Michael Johnson
I loaded up a new card to do a minicom dump for you and now I cannot reproduce
this either.
This puzzles me as I tried a bunch of things to try to get this to work and
ended up having to build custom u-boot packages.
The only thing I can think is I had a bad microsd card. Sorry and thanks for
you time.

[Bug 1870985] [NEW] RFE: Enable autoboot strings by default

2020-04-05 Thread Michael Johnson
Public bug reported:

This is a feature request as opposed to a bug.

I would be super handy to have the following settings enabled by default
in the Raspberry Pi Ubuntu u-boot package.

CONFIG_AUTOBOOT_KEYED
CONFIG_AUTOBOOT_DELAY_STR "delay"
CONFIG_AUTOBOOT_STOP_STR "stop"

The documentation for these settings is here:
https://gitlab.denx.de/u-boot/custodians/u-boot-
raspberrypi/-/blob/master/doc/README.autoboot

Many of us using Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi are using the serial ports for
connecting various devices/hats. As Ubuntu currently ships, any
character received on the serial port will halt the boot process.
Devices, such as GPS receivers, typically have a regular stream of
output that, when attached at boot, cause u-boot to halt.

By setting the above settings (or something similar) it will require a
specific string to be entered to halt u-boot, instead of any character.

Reconfiguring u-boot to not abort on any character is quite hard and
poorly documented.

[Bug 1870981] [NEW] u-boot environment modification does not work raspberry 4 with eoan

2020-04-05 Thread Michael Johnson
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 19.10
Release:19.10
Package: u-boot-rpi (2019.07+dfsg-1ubuntu3)

On a Raspberry Pi 3 model B, I can interrupt the u-boot process and use
the following two commands to disable the boot delay. I do this as I
have a GPS device attached to the serial port and the NMEA messages will
halt the u-boot boot process.

Commands:
setenv bootdelay -2
saveenv

This saves a u-boot environment file into the /boot filesystem such that
this setting persists across power cycles.

However, with eoan on a Raspberry Pi 4, this environment file is not
written out properly and on subsequent reboots u-boot will say that the
file is corrupt. This will cause u-boot to revert to the built in
defaults which causes the u-boot process to halt.

[Bug 1743465] [NEW] Bionic should have haproxy 1.8-stable

2018-01-15 Thread Michael Johnson
Public bug reported:

The Bionic Beaver (18.04 LTS) release should include the released
HAProxy 1.8-stable version instead of 1.7.9 that Artful Aardvark
includes.

1.8-stable includes improvements to systemd support, threading, TLS, and
reload that would be beneficial to have in the next LTS release. 1.8
will also provided a longer upstream support cycle more consistent with
an LTS release.

[Bug 1703423] Re: zesty qemu packages (2.8) released for xenial-updates

2017-07-12 Thread Michael Johnson
So if the package came from http://ubuntu-
cloud.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/ocata/main amd64
Packages

It appears that the xenial-updates/ocata/main repository has zesty
packages in it where it should only have xenial. Correct?

2017-07-11 Thread Michael Johnson
Ok, so I do develop against OpenStack, so somehow it looks like I got an
ocata repo added.

However, I think their might still be an issue as it is still xenial-
updates.

[Bug 1703423] [NEW] zesty qemu packages (2.8) released for xenial-updates

2017-07-10 Thread Michael Johnson
Public bug reported:

Xenial hosts that run apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade are getting
2.8 (zesty) versions of the qemu packages.

Example:
Unpacking qemu-system-x86 (1:2.8+dfsg-3ubuntu2.3~cloud0) over
(1:2.5+dfsg-5ubuntu10.14) ...

This is causing instances to not boot under qemu as the default hardware
type is set to pc-i440fx-zesty in these packages. If you override that
setting and boot with pc-i440fx-xenial the instance will start.

The odd thing too is the https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/qemu
page shows Xenial should still be on the 2.5 version series, but if you
do an apt-get dist-upgrade you get zesty packages.

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04

While I don't know exactly what is going on, the easy fix seems to be to pull
in the current debian sid package (0.8.0-1) which installs and loads cleanly on
my ubuntu 13.10 install. While there is nothing in the changelog that stands
out to me, clearly something is different as the debian 0.8.0-1 package works
while the ubuntu 0.7.0-1 package does not produce a loadable module.
