2024-02-25 Thread MichaelE
I have it on Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS with kernel 6.5.0-21-generic. It does
not appear with kernel 5.12.0-97-generic

System still boots, but not understanding the impact I stay with the
5.12 kernel for now.

[Bug 1960747] Re: [Lenovo Yoga 7] Autorotation of screen does not work on wayland, but on X

2022-02-19 Thread MichaelE
I think this relates to this discussion on GNOME:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1846 and
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1686.

My Laptop also does not report SW_TABLET_MODE, while disabling of
keyboard and Touchpad is done properly by the HW (?) when folding into
tablet mode.

Obviously, the way X is deciding on the sensor input is the better one,
as there the behavior is as expected, when folding the laptop.

[Bug 524851] Re: [needs-packaging] Enhancement Request - Citrix Receiver as Ubuntu Partner package

This would still be helpful. Citrix is releasing decent packages for
Debian/ubuntu by now - can these be integrated?

2022-02-19 Thread MichaelE
Ok, moved to 22.04 early (5.15.0-18-generic) and am still seeing the
same behavior. It works with X, but not with Wayland.

2021-06-29 Thread MichaelE
Xorg worked after a full power cycle again.
Wayland is still showing the issue and generating the error message of

gnome-shell 1856945 - - Failed to post KMS update: drmModePageFlip on
CRTC 33 failed: Nicht genügend Hauptspeicher verfügbar

Let me know if you need me to do any further diagnostics.

[Bug 1933724] Re: Screen goes blank after login to Wayland session (Aspeed graphics)

2021-06-28 Thread MichaelE
Using "ubuntu" at log-in did not solve it.
A full power-cycle of the server did now resolve it. Before I did only reboots.
Looks like the BMC/Aspeed required a full power off to reset properly.
Ticket can be closed, please.

[Bug 1873702] [NEW] 2 bugs in stenc to enable HW encryption on LTO drives

2020-04-19 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

The current version of stenc in Debian/Ubuntu still contains 2 small
bugs which may cause the following error when trying to activate HW
encryption:

$ stenc -f /dev/nst0 -a 1 -e on -k test.key
Provided key length is 256 bits.
Key checksum is 7a43.
Turning on encryption on device '/dev/nst0'...
Sense Code: Illegal Request (0x05)
 ASC:0x26
 ASCQ: 0x00
 Additional data:0x
Error: Turning encryption on for '/dev/nst0' failed!
Usage: stenc --version | -g -k [-kd ] | -f
 [--detail] [-e [-k ] [-kd ]
[-a ] [--protect | --unprotect] [--ckod] ]
Type 'man stenc' for more information

Please see also https://serverfault.com/questions/864580/what-could-
cause-a-sense-error-when-setting-lto-encryption

Fixes have been applied to the GitHub repository of stenc
(https://github.com/scsitape/stenc), but not ported to Debian. Fixing
this would be very easy and be very helpful to users of stenc.

[Bug 1749706] Re: playonlinux fails to open wine configuration window

2018-04-28 Thread Michaele Raffeisen
I have the same Problem. Never had this problem in my older distros!
Have to install a wine mono & gecko package but it doesn't let me confirm that
I want to install those packages since the windows is so damn small not even
the X buttom is fully visible.
This is very annoying!! Doesn't anybody test this sh*t before releasing it?

[Bug 1654057] Re: btrfs balance crashed

2017-01-05 Thread MichaelE
Btrfs ran into this issue a couple of times on this partition, always
falling back to read-only.

A btrfs check produced the following log entries:

As the content on the disk did not change since I converted from ext4 to
btrfs, I think that the inconsistency must have been produced by btrfs.
To be sure, I am now also checking the underlying partition for errors -
it is a raid 1 with 3 active disks and lvm on top of it. So far neither
dm nor lvm reported errors.

Then I will backup to tape and buld a new btrfs partition from scratch.

[Bug 1645130] [NEW] Network manager showing no list of wifi networks after resume from suspend

2016-11-27 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.10 on Dell XPS 13 9350 (Skylake) with Intel 8260 wifi card.
When resuming after supsend, network manager does reconnect to the last
wifi but does not show this in the tray icon. Also the menu underneath
the icon does not list any wifi networks anymore.

A

solves the issue most of the times, but not always.

[Bug 1251760] [NEW] Display keyboard froze

2013-11-15 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Was using my desktop PC when display completely froze. I did not do
anything special (I was surfing in my intranet). Keyboard was also
completely dead (could not switch numlock LED).

I could still observ random disk activity so I assume that the kernel was still
working (it did record some crash information to the attached kern.log).
I had to power-cycle to get access to the system again.

[Bug 524851] Re: [needs-packaging] Enhancement Request - Citrix Receiver as Ubuntu Partner package

2012-08-01 Thread MichaelE
This would clearly be helpful. Many large corporations currently develop
citrix based virtual client environments (like the one I am working
for).

[Bug 877627] Re: Software Center is not opening on 11.10 after update from 11.04

2012-05-06 Thread MichaelE
I found a work-around but am not sure which side-effects this may have.
Obvoiusly the following files were corrupted during upgrade to 10.10:

/var/lib/apt-xapian-index/cataloged_times.p
/var/lib/apt-xapian-index/values

cataloged_times.p had just binary data and values looked more like a
README file. After I deleted both files, I was able to start

root@montreal:/var/lib/apt-xapian-index# update-apt-xapian-index -v

which rebuild both files. Software-center now also works again.

cataloged_times.p contains now text information and values actually
looks like a data-base. Not sure what caused the corruptions during
upgrade to 10.10, but obviously it happened to others as well.

This seems also to be discussed in bug 832888. But I have to admit that
I do not understand whether the plugin is already fixed, will be fixed,
will be replaced or is not taken care of. Maybe somebody can summarise
who is more familiar with the release/fixing process.

[Bug 800430] [NEW] smbtorture triggers 'panic action' script

2011-06-21 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I discovered that smbtorture triggers the 'panic action' script on my samba
server.
smbtorture worked without problems on 10.10.
I used smbtorture to go after a problem I have with seahorse on cifs shares
(also worked well on 10.10). Please see bug 800147
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/seahorse-plugins/+bug/800147).
The samba server is running as a kvm domain on a ubuntu 10.10 host. Both have
all updates installed.

[Bug 800147] [NEW] encrypt/decrypt on CIFS share does not work with seahorse-tool for files 57kb

2011-06-21 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse-plugins

Encrypting and decyrypting files with seahorse-tool (via right-click in
nautilus) fails on cifs shares. It still works on locally mounted disks.

Looks like seahorse-tool has problems working with files on a cifs
share, if file size is above 57k.

Symptoms:
- Copying files per cp or drag-and-drop onto and from the cifs share works
without errors
- PGP-encrypting a file via right click on a cifs share leads to the generation
of a .pgp file. But this file seems to be cut off at a maximum size of 57344
bytes. The original file had 251327 bytes. When I try to decrypt the file, it
chooses the right key, but the produced file is unreadable (probably just
misses the previously cut-off part).
- When trying to decrypt a healthy .pgp file (can be decrypted on a local disk
w/o problems), de-cryption produces a file that is again cut-off at 57344 bytes.
- Encrypting and de-crypting a file of only 28k works fne on the cifs share

The syslog shows the following error message:
montreal kernel: [ 934.789391] CIFS VFS: Send error in Close = -512
sometimes the log also shows
montreal kernel: [ 4794.063692] CIFS VFS: Send error in Close = -11
but I cannot say whether it relates to seahorse.

I have been using seahorse on cifs shares for years on ubuntu 10.10 and
did not experience this issue.

The samba server is a ubuntu 10.10 KVM domain on a ubuntu 10.10 server:

Linux ubuntu-samba 2.6.35-28-server #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 18 18:59:25 UTC 2011

Sometimes the file size of the result is even 0 bytes instead of the
57344 bytes.

I set the log level on the samba server to 3 and attached the output of
the server's log file for the client and smbd.

2011-06-21 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

server.
smbtorture worked without problems on 10.10.
I used smbtorture to go after a problem I have with seahorse on cifs shares

[Bug 783073] [NEW] Wrong ELF-CLass for libappmenu.so

2011-05-15 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: appmenu-gtk

I have a fresh install of 11.04 AMD64 (no upgrade).
When starting my banking application moneyplex 2011 (www.moneyplex.de) it
gives the following error message:

/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so: falsche ELF-Klasse:
ELFCLASS64

(moneyplex:14090): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module:
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so

The application starts, but the screen output is not correct (font looks
strange, wrong layout, no bold fonts, etc.). The application worked
without errors on 10.10.

I filed this bug with appmenu-gtk, as libappmenu.so is in this package.

[Bug 662435] Re: megatec_usb driver stopped working after upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04

2010-10-20 Thread MichaelE
I tested the shutdown behaviour and it works as expected. The UPS
disconnected the load and then came back on again after power returned
(waiting the defined delay).

I also attached the blazer_usb output in case this is needed. If there
are other testes required to improve the driver I am happy to do this
(maybe read out the remaining battery capacity?).

This is the output of upsc:

[Bug 662435] Re: megatec_usb driver stopped working after upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04

2010-10-20 Thread MichaelE
I tested the shutdown behaviour and it works as expected. The UPS
disconnected the load and then came back on again after power returned
(waiting the defined delay).

I also attached the blazer_usb output in case this is needed. If there
are other testes required to improve the driver I am happy to do this
(maybe read out the remaining battery capacity?).

This is the output of upsc:

[Bug 662435] Re: megatec_usb driver stopped working after upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04

2010-10-19 Thread MichaelE
It works now!

I reinstalled 2.4.3 and checked the blazer_usb driver again. First I
thought it did not work but then discovered a configuration error: When
changing from megatec to blazer, the value for offdelay needs to be
changed. In megatec it is minutes and in blazer it is seconds. As it
does not allow a value smaller than 6, the blazer_usb refused to work
(it was 1 in megatec).

Thanks a lot to Arnaud for the quick reply!

Here is my new ups.conf now:

[ups01]
driver= blazer_usb
port  = auto
vendorid  = 0665
productid = 5161
# after shutdown, wait 5 minutes after return of power
ondelay   = 5
# wait 1 minute after power-off command before cutting power
offdelay  = 60

[Bug 662435] [NEW] megatec_usb driver stopped working after upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04

2010-10-17 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nut

I was using nut with the megatec_usb driver for years without problems.
Now I upgraded my server to 10.04 and the driver stopped to work with
nut_2.4.3-1ubuntu3.1. Here is the ups.conf I am using

[ups01]

port  = auto
vendorid  = 0665
productid = 5161
 mfr   = Powerwalker
model = Line Interactive VI 1400
 serial   = 73712C8

Also tested the subdrivers without success.

I now downgraded the nut package to nut_2.2.2-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb and the
driver works again. PLEASE MIND, THAT THE BUG IS WITH VERSION 2.4.3 not
2.2.2.

[Bug 630304] Re: Meerkat: gscan2pdf looses first page on multi-page duplex scanning

2010-09-12 Thread MichaelE
Ok.

scanadf and scanadf-perl show the same error.

scanimage-perl and scanimage work correctly.

libsane-perl thinks that DIN-A4 is too large for the scanner (whyever).
A test with a smaller scansize worked.

I'll use scanimage now instead of scanadf. If you you need support to
debug scanadf by doing tests, I am happy to help.

[Bug 630304] Re: Meerkat: gscan2pdf looses first page on multi-page duplex scanning

2010-09-11 Thread MichaelE
Ok, have access to my computer again:

I now scanned 3 double-sided pages: Again, the 1st page is missing
completely, pages 2 to 6 are scanned, thumbnails 3 and 5 are missing,
rest is ok.

The issue with the filename is solved. I did not notice the change in
the properties dialog with the new version - sorry.

Frontend is scanadf.

I am not too familiar with the structure of the gscan2pdf application.
If you can give me a hint how to further pin down the problem I am happy
to do the required testing.

Re: [Bug 630304] Re: Meerkat: gscan2pdf looses first page on multi-page duplex scanning

2010-09-07 Thread MichaelE
The file was saved as PDF.

The error with the thumbnails was reproducible.

I made a little typo: Pages 2 to 4 were scanned correctly, page 1 was
missing and thumbnail of page 3 was empty. Empty in a sense that there was
no thumbnail at all.

I'll answer the rest when I have access to the computer again on
Thursday.

 On 4 September 2010 18:17, MichaelE 630...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

Which frontend (Edit/Preferences) are you using? Do you have the same
 behaviour with all frontends?

The pictogram of the 3rd page is empty in the left overview column, but
the page itself is scanned properly.

Is this completely reproducible? I don't have a duplex scanner,
 unfortunately.

When saving, the document name is only copied until the first space
character into the file name, so My Doc saves as My.

Saving as what? PDF? JPG? DjVu?

2010-09-04 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gscan2pdf

With Scanner Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 (duplex / automatic feeder / USB)

When doing a 2-page duplex scan, gscan2pdf completely looses/forgets the

The pictogram of the 3rd page is empty in the left overview column, but
the page itself is scanned properly.

When saving, the document name is only copied until the first space
character into the file name, so My Doc saves as My.

[Bug 447150] Re: unable to start sync-ui - terminated with message Segmentation fault (core dumped)

2009-12-12 Thread MichaelE
Have the same problem here with AMD64 under 9.10. It first worked well
and suddenly sync-ui crashes immediately with a segfault. The log shows

montreal kernel: [ 79.032405] sync-ui[3556]: segfault at 490 ip
7f202380073b sp 7fff50b80b00 error 4 in
libgobject-2.0.so.0.2200.2[7f20237db000+44000]

I also replicate with a funambol server.

[Bug 478649] Re: Files named cifsxxxx (x is various numbers) suddenly appear in many directories of cif mounts

Yes, sorry, it is package smbfs and not smbclient. How can I reassign
this?

[Bug 478649] [NEW] Files named cifsxxxx (x is various numbers) suddenly appear in many directories of cif mounts

2009-11-08 Thread MichaelE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I using my set-up with samba shares for 2-3 years and have never noticed
this before. I assume it started just some weeks or months ago.

I am using the following mount options on my Ubuntu 9.10 machine (the
problem was already on 9.04, as I just upgraded a few days ago)

mount.cifs .. -o
domain=mydomain,credentials=/home/$USER/.smbcredentials,nobrl,iocharset=utf8

The samba server is running on a Debian 5.0 xen-DomU with samba version
3.2.5. The xen-Dom0 is Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Linux xen-samba 2.6.24-24-xen #1
SMP Tue Aug 18 18:15:39 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux).

I have not found any file corruptions on the shares yet. So I guess the
cifs files are some sort of temp files. They do not do any harm
except looking ugly and eating up filespace.
