[Bug 1193716] Re: Xfce Power Manager does not override the screen saver timeout (X11 Screen Saver extension)
I'm not sure if this is related or not but I am also having this issue in Lubuntu without xfce-power-manager being installed. I have disabled light locker and xset reports Standby: 0 Suspend: 0 Off: 0. I'm actually running Lubuntu on an older Intel iMac and when the screen goes off, any running apps also go off similar to Stavros. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1193716 Title: Xfce Power Manager does not override the screen saver timeout (X11 Screen Saver extension) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1193716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 857041] Re: [Upstream] Nonprinting characters not showing in Writer
I had the same problem with writer. I tried all the suggestions above and none worked. I did some digging around and in '~/.openoffice.org/3/user' found the file 'registrymodifications.xcu'. [Bug 331589] Re: system beep in jaunty is the most annoying sound known to man
I am also getting this (absurdly loud) BEEP with a dell D620 with a fully patched fresh install of 9.04 (final release). This occurs only during system shut-down. The command $ sudo modprobe -r pcspkr This stops the problem for a single shut-down but it's not permanent. All I need is a way to stop this by un-checking a box somewhere. -- system beep in jaunty is the most annoying sound known to man https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 337167] [NEW] No static IP on Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15 refer Question #50197, asked on 2008-11-03 by jokker. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network- manager/+question/50197 It looks like 8.10 will only allow DHCP IP address and will not allow the assigning of a static IP. Several other people have commented in the thread that they also are having this problem. I'm also losing my hair on this. package: NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0 What was expected: please refer to question link above. In short: To be able to set a static IP instead of using DHCP. [Bug 304046] [NEW] xubuntu Abiword help distro error
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: abiword-help In using Abiword I was inserting page numbers and clicked the Help button. I got a Firefox msg that said it couldn't find the html doc at the path it was looking in: /usr/share/abiword-2.6/AbiWord/help/en- US/interface/dialogpagenumbers.html I took a look at the path and noticed that Abiword is looking for the file on a path that doesn't exist. The path that does exist looks like this: /usr/share/abiword-2.6/help/en-US/interface/dialogpagenumbers.html Notice that the installed data path lacks the level /Abiword/ that follows /abiword-2.6/ Any fix for this? [Bug 293493] [NEW] video card and monitor defaults
Public bug reported: I'm new to linux. Have installed xubuntu to my HDD. Works fine in all respects, save 1. It has failed to detect my video card and monitor correctly. I'm using an S3 Trio 3D/2X (362/368) AGP card with 4 MB memory. The monitor is a Dell m781p. The system appears to be using very basic defaults as the response is very sluggish, and I am restricted to 800x600 at 85Mhz.. I have searched the web for solutions to no avail. In Windows, as I recall, I had to drop to 16 bit color to get above 800x600 and don't mind doing that again. Also, the text labels in Firefox are tiny, I mean in the top line pulldown menu descriptions. Looks like 9 point sans serif or less. Don't know if this is related to the video problems, but wouldn't be surprised. I had a look at the xorg.config file and it looks like this: # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously # in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings # here are ignored. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" EndSection I ran a couple of instances of a fix I found on the web that included something like " phigh" in the command. Did no harm, but I ended up with a couple of xorg.config files that were time/date stamped. They contained no changes (can the be deleted or must they be kept). I am disappointed that there appears to be no way for me to adjust these settings graphically. With help I don't mind editing files, but this seems to be a weak area in ubuntu/xubuntu. Otherwise, I am very pleased with a clean, quick system with just the apps I need and no crap. I know I will love this system when I get past these video problems.
