[Bug 2026194] Re: When clicking on some maximized or tiled windows, focus on roughly the lower quarter falls to the window behind

2024-05-03 Thread Mikhail B
I'm experiencing the same issue.

Ubuntu 24.04, mutter 46.0-1ubuntu9, gnome-shell 46.0.
Affected programs - Alacritty, Terminator, Konsole (from snap).
Not affected - VS Code, gnome-calculator, vivaldi.

The workaround "restore-interact-maximize" doesn't work for me,
unfortunately.

[Bug 1955833] [NEW] Crash on the update of the local ICS calendar file

Public bug reported:

I start reproducing the crash after my upgrade to Ubuntu 21.10. The

[Bug 1942699] Re: SRU: Update Telegram Desktop to 3.1.1

2021-12-08 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Is this update on its way to 20.04 (focal) or not? I think it is a very
important update. A newer version in a stable release is much better
than a not working version.

[Bug 1924685] Re: No sound output/input available after installing 21.04

2021-05-05 Thread Mikhail Shevtsov
I've connected USB sound card "Sound Blaster Play! 3" and Headset
Microphone works just great. So headset microphone on XPS 9700 doesn't
work due problem with drivers. I suspect that Dell put some non standard
solution for switching between Internal Microphone and Headset
Microphone because when I deleted from Windows 10 external utility
called Max Audio Windows stopped switching to headset microphone
whenever I plug headphones even when I select it manually. After
reinstall of Max Audio it started to work as expected. Does anyone have
clue to this annoying problem with Headset Microphone?

[Bug 1894018] [NEW] Visible Network list interface disconnects without user prompt upon just clicking the netowrk name

2020-09-02 Thread Mikhail
Public bug reported:

Visible Network wifi list interface
Be connected to some wifi network
Click on any network name (reconnects if clicked on currently connected
network, and disconnects when clicked on some other network)
Current wifi connection disconnects. No prompt no nothing. Just
disconnects/reconnects.

It would be best to ask prior to disconnect. It would be good to prompt
whether user wants to initiate connection (and just then prompt for
password).

[Bug 1807155] Re: Laptop doesn't wake up from deep sleep.

2020-04-25 Thread Mikhail Glagolev
The bug is still present in 20.04.
The "shallow" mode doesn't cause the problem, but the battery drain is about
10% of that during normal operation without stress (browsing, terminal, text
editor, etc.).

[Bug 1807155] Re: Laptop doesn't wake up from deep sleep.

2020-04-17 Thread Mikhail Glagolev
Hi everyone!

I'm on 19.10 now, and the things didn't improve.

My laptop has a touchscreen and a G-sensor, and often upon waking from
s2idle the touchpad doesn't work (while the touchscreen does), and the
screen is stuck in portrait orientation. This may be caused by keeping
the idle laptop in the "portrait" orientation in the backpack.

The only solution I found is to completely shut the laptop down.
Thanks Kai-Heng for the advice, will upgrade to 20.04 and try.

[Bug 1071941] Re: apport-cli asks me to input localized key / letter and can't understand my answer

2020-03-06 Thread mikhail-777
So many bugs in Ubuntu, and become more with every new LTS release,

so the one good sulution for me is just removing all buggy components
instead of testing and reporting (because nobody has time to fix it),
even if Cannonical promote it as essential.

No big problem really, but programs, which require input answers from
user in non-latin Unicode, are not very smart programs, because:

1) problems with Unicode decoding are always possible (by developer
mistake),

2) user can have problem with input of non-latin symbols by keyboard (by
some other bug).

Good solution is: expects answers hotkeys in latin (English) short
strings (like `Да[Y]/Нет[N]:` for `Yes[Y]/No[N]:`), even you show
localized message.

[Bug 1754321] Re: chromium-browser: please drop dependency on libgnome-keyring

2019-12-28 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
+1, it would be nice because I don't want to use a snap version of
Chromium on Ubuntu 19.10 and 20.04 and try to rebuild Chromium from
Bionic in eoan and focal in ppa:mikhailnov/utils, I will try to build
libgnome-keyring to avoid changing chromium-browser packaging manually
for now.

[Bug 1850159] Re: gnome-control-center reports Ethernet Connection Failure while Connection success

2019-10-30 Thread Mikhail
Can't explain better, but I found root cause.

So, full steps to reproduce:

1) sudo service NetworkManager stop
2) sudo wpa_supplicant -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wired.conf -i eth1 -D wired
3) sudo dhclient eth1
4) see in output "ls: cannot access
'/run/systemd/resolved.conf.d/isc-dhcp-v6-***.conf': No such file or directory"
5) check ifconfig that only IPv4 address was received

Work-around: Disable IPv6 for Ethernet

** Summary changed:

- gnome-control-center reports Ethernet Connection Failure while Connection
success
+ dhclient can't obtain IPv6 addr

[Bug 1832059] Re: [needs-packaging] Pulseeffects for eoan

Removed trailing whitespaces:
https://github.com/mikhailnov/pulseeffects/commit/30e6480bf2e9c9efe2d74ef5e72251db0b725812

Lintian should not be ran against what is on Launchpad, please run it against
what is in git, because the script
https://github.com/mikhailnov/pulseeffects/blob/master/debian/build-ppa.sh,
which helps to automate maintaining the PPA, makes some changes before
uploading to Launchpad, what leads to
"source-contains-empty-directory debian/source/"
"missing-debian-source-format"
"hyphen-in-native-debian-changelog-version 4.6.3-1~disco1"
"debian-watch-file-in-native-package"
to appear in Lintian warnings.
These warnings won't appear if Lintian is ran against debian/* in git.

[Bug 1832059] Re: [needs-packaging] Pulseeffects for eoan

2019-06-07 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
To clarify a bit,
https://launchpad.net/~mikhailnov/+archive/ubuntu/pulseeffects is not
maintained by upstream author, I just maintain debian/* in upstream via
pull requests from https://github.com/mikhailnov/pulseeffects to
https://github.com/wwmm/pulseeffects and maintain that PPA.

I also build PulseAudio in PulseEffects PPA, because newer PulseAudio
has some important fixes. As for Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan, it would be good to
include this patch https://gitlab.com/nixtux-packaging/pulseaudio-
ubuntu/blob/master/pulseaudio-12.2/debian/patches/0001-Backport-add-an-
option-that-allows-rewinds-to-be-dis.patch (a backport from git master
to v12.2) to fix sound crackling when changing volume level in
PulseEffects (https://gitlab.com/nixtux-packaging/pulseaudio-
ubuntu/blob/master/pulseaudio-12.2/debian/patches/0001-Backport-add-an-
option-that-allows-rewinds-to-be-dis.patch). I've made a seperate bug

[Bug 1832060] [NEW] Backport "add an option that allows rewinds to be disabled"

2019-06-07 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Public bug reported:

PulseAudio git master added an option that allows rewinds to be
disabled. I backported it to v12.2, the patch is here:
https://gitlab.com/nixtux-packaging/pulseaudio-
ubuntu/blob/master/pulseaudio-12.2/debian/patches/0001-Backport-add-an-
option-that-allows-rewinds-to-be-dis.patch

This will help PulseEffects that is being packaged in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1832059 by fixing crackling sound
when changing the volume level.

It would be good to have this patches applied in Eoan if PulseAudio 13.0
does not get to it.

NVENC now have a seperate upstream and are a build dependency of other

[Bug 1796374] Re: locking session turns off external monitor

2019-04-17 Thread Mikhail A
I can confirm this happens for me.
I did try to activate external monitor via xrandr, lxrandr and monitor setting
app.

It looks like when light-locker activates, it starts new Xorg instance,
and that new instance is using default monitor config: internal only, no
external ones.

[Bug 1805203] Re: libcurl3-gnutls in cosmic breaks git with Azure DevOps

2019-03-14 Thread Mikhail Shevtsov
Faced same issue and solved by downgrading.

To avoid upgrade of package and adding bionic-security to sources list One can
do:
1. Manually download package from
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/libcurl3-gnutls
2. Install libcurl3-gnutls with dpkg -i libcurl3-gnutls*.deb
3. Lock package version with apt-mark hold libcurl3-gnutls
4. Once update will be pushed just unlock package with apt-mark unhold
libcurl3-gnutls

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2019-02-10 Thread Mikhail Chabanov via ubuntu-bugs
SOLUTION

For myself I created temporary hack allowing to switch Keyboard layouts
(en<->ru) by Ctrl+Shift on key release. My method does not interfere
with other shortcuts. I use it myself on daily basis.

It's simple Python script which listen to Ctrl+Shift key combination and switch
layout on release.

[Bug 1814162] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2019-01-31 Thread Mikhail Ryan Wise
Public bug reported:

When I lock my machine on the latest ubuntu version 4.15.0-44-generic,
it turns my display completely black and unresponsive. This is only when
I have my dock (with external displays in). After it freezes however,
removing the dock has no effect. Booting back into 4.15.0-43-generic has
fixed the problem so this is a regression bug.

[Bug 1810649] [NEW] ffmpeg 4 requires external headers for NVENC

2019-01-06 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Public bug reported:

See https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/ffnvcodec-headers/

ffmpeg -codecs 2>/dev/null | grep nvenc
should show available codecs and does show on Ubuntu 18.04, I think it does not
on 19.04, because ffmpeg has moved compat/nvenc to a separate git repository,
and you have to explicitly enable --enable-nvenc --enable-nvdec after packaging
those headers.

[Bug 1810517] [NEW] re-enable GhostScript in ImageMagick

2019-01-04 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Public bug reported:

This security updated https://usn.ubuntu.com/3785-1/ added the following
to /etc/ImageMagick-6/policy.xml

This prevents from working with PDF, e.g. `convert file.pdf file.png`.
It is a very common use case and is a suggested way to convert PDF to
image on many websites, including ask.ubuntu.com

I had to remove/comment those lines from /etc/ImageMagick-6/policy.xml
to allow ImageMagick to work with PDF, otherwise it was:

$ convert test1.pdf test1.png
convert-im6.q16: not authorized `test1.pdf' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/412.
convert-im6.q16: no images defined `test1.png' @
error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3258.

Can you please reenable GhostScript?
I don't think that it is so insecure that so common use cases must be disabled,
people, who do not read usn.ubuntu.com frequently, will not understand the
error.

Also, those security update disabled GhostScript on the fly; what if I
used it on servers or for daily desktop tasks?

[Bug 1809105] [NEW] Broken setting custom flags in /usr/bin/chromium-browser script

2018-12-19 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Public bug reported:

To workaround LP#1808853 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808853) I
tried to make the following script (/etc/chromium-
browser/customizations/20-chromium-useragent-fix):

https://gitlab.com/mikhailnov/nastr/blob/master/chromium-useragent-

But it does not work due to probably an error in /usr/bin/chromium-
browser

If use an unmodified /usr/bin/chromium-browser, then my scripts leads to
openning multiple tabs, because --useagent=VALUE is passed as multiple
arguements, not one.

[Bug 1808853] Re: Buggy WhatsApp misdetects Chromium with Ubuntu's patched useragent

2018-12-19 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Yes, I totally agree that it is not an Ubuntu problem and should not be
fixed... But maybe someone will come here by this bug report. Or maybe
someone has an idea how to reach WhatsApp developers.

Custom useragent can be set without extensions via developer tools in
"Network", see attached screenshot.

Another solution is --useagent CLI, I will try to make a script to not
rebuild the ubuntu package in my PPA just to allow our managers to work
with WhatsApp web. I don't trust 3rd party extensions.

That is not an official answer because their robot autoresponder or support

they've broken parsing useragent unintensionally, but I don't know how to reach

[Bug 1807155] [NEW] Laptop doesn't wake up from deep sleep.

2018-12-06 Thread Mikhail Glagolev
Public bug reported:

While on battery power, Asus Zenbook UX461U laptop can't wake up from
suspend with mem_sleep_default=deep kernel option.

Upon opening the lid or pressing the power button the power LED switches
from blinking to constant light, the keyboard LEDs blink instantly, but
nothing more happens. Apart from the power LED the laptop doesn't show
any signs of operation. The keyboard backlight doesn't work. The only
way out of this state is powering the laptop off by long pressing the
power button.

On AC power, the laptop resumes from deep sleep normally.

Deep sleep is crucial, because without the mem_sleep_default=deep option
battery drain is very high (several percent per hour).

one from #162. Are those changes going to be included in the official

Sure, this may be some kind of hardware issue. But not video card issue
for sure, since we don't use video card (hardware/software) in any way
during game data file creation (don't even init libSDL at all).

I am just worry, why so many people faced with same issue. For now my
main assumption is a bug in code.

Unfortunately, I still can't reproduce this issue on my PC. -_-
Is it possible for people that affected by this issue, check game built from
sources ( https://github.com/viewizard/astromenace#build )? I am interested,
did we already fixed this issue in upstream or not, since all fs-related code
was refactored.

[Bug 1791768] [NEW] Chromium 69 is partly broken with PulseAudio

Public bug reported:

Behaviour of input anbd output devices was changed and partly broken in
chromium 69, see
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=880180.

Including, but not only, partly breaking switching input and output
devices in pavucontrol, see commennt #26 by the link above. Also, I'm
not sure how it will behave with module-switch-on-connect (my comment
about it is #27).

For my use-cases it is a severe regression, and I blocked updating to

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-08-27 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
My hardware: Probe URL: https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=572f1e3e6a

nvidia-fallback.service loads nouveau when I switched PRIME to Intel. I
also see nouveau in `sensors` output. `systemctl disable nvidia-
fallback` seems to cure the ptoblem, nouveau kernel module is not loaded
any more and power cosumption _seems_ to be lower.

nvidia-fallback.service loads nouveau module even when it's blacklisted
because this service starts after systemd loads kernel modules according
to configs in /etc/modprobe.d/

Other PRIME fuctions work correctly except switching being much longer
than it was before upgrading to bionic (18.04).

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-08-27 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Also, something, probably prime-select, adds nouveau.runpm=0 to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

$ cat `which prime-select` | grep nouveau.runpm
boot_params['nouveau.runpm'] = '0'
 self._grub_path, ['nouveau.runpm',
'video=VGA'])

I don't understand why it does this, but I removed it , updated grub and
everything works.

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-08-27 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Sorry, I have read above and understood why it's needed. I think prime-
select can leave a dummy file somewhere and systemd service nvidia-
fallback should be loaded when there is no this file written by prime-
select.

[Bug 1769785] Re: Calf now at version 0.90.1, Please Upgrade

2018-07-29 Thread Mikhail N
Hi,
I am maintaining ppa:mikhailnov/pulseeffects (upstream is at
https://github.com/wwmm/pulseeffects)
I tried to get this package into Debian
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=902700
but nobody sems to be interested and I stopped uploading newest versions there.

For fully correct operation pulseeffects needs calf-plugins >=0.90.0. I
found 0.90.0 already packages in Deepin and rebuilt it in the PPA (it
was buildable only for i386 and x86_64, other architectures failed, did
not investigate). I will try to not forget to port your package for my
PPA.

As you are ubuntu studio team, maybe you can help in getting
pulseeffects into debian and ubuntu.

Pulseeffects is split into 4 packages: pulseeffects, gstreamer1.0
-convolver-pulseeffects, gstreamer1.0-crystalizer-pulseeffects,
gstreamer1.0-autogain-pulseeffects,d

ebian specs used for the ppa are upstreamed:
https://github.com/wwmm/pulseeffects/tree/master/debian

[Bug 1759836] Re: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU

2018-07-26 Thread Mikhail
After some time CPU load grew to 100% again.

Have found another workaround which is working so far (disabling nvidia
rules for udev):

sudo mv /lib/udev/rules.d/71-nvidia.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/71-nvidia.save

(and then restart).

[Bug 1778256] Re: [Pull request] Move apt-btrfs-snapshot to daily systemd timers, drop python2 and other changes

2018-06-26 Thread Mikhail N
https://gitlab.com/nixtux-packaging/apt-btrfs-
snapshot/commit/29e2864ac59e9a73f4f7359da404bb83127d5139 fixed it on
Ubuntu 16.04. python3-dist-utils on 18.04 and python3-dist-utils-extra
are required. Without them it may just not work or report that the
system is lacking snapshot features. This fixed 'system is lacking
snapshot features' error on my Ubuntu 16.04 servers and desktops
