[Bug 1814808] Re: 18.04 update to libglapi-mesa/libglx-mesa0 causes vlc crash

2019-02-05 Thread Nataraj
Package libglapi-mesa and libglx-mesa0 are codependant upon each other.
I don't know where the bug actually is, but through the process of
elimination I have determined that installing the latest versions of
these libraries breaks vlc and reverting to older versions fixes it. I
have tried setting the package name to libglapi-mesa and it won't accept
that name. I have also tried libglx-mesa0.

As far as I can see dpkg and apt-cache lead me to believe these are the
names of these packages, so I'm not sure what the bug interface in
launchpad wants for a package name. Furthermore, from the backtrace, it
looks like the actual crash is in another module from what I can tell.

I am only reporting at this time, that updating these two packages
creates the problem.

Thank You.

I was sent a message asking if this bug still existed. I responded that
it did, yet the bug report was changed to expired. How can this bug be
reopened? Why was it previously in an incomplete state. I believe that
I provided all of the requested information.. Am I suppose to change
the status to something else?

Yes, this is still a problem for me and I can confirm that the same
version under ubuntu 14.04 works correctly, so this is likely related to
the build options used under 18.04, unless there is a library issue.

is missing from the individual folder menus. Works fine when I connect
  to Gmail's IMAP server.

Thunderbird 52.7.0 under Ubuntu 14.04 does not have this issue. I notice
that the version of Thunderbird under 18.04 is actually older than the

I sugguest an update to a more recent and stable release of Thunderbird

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-06 Thread Nataraj
You don't need to install all of the updates from the -proposed
repository, only the kernel. When you check the proposed box in the
software updater, you are effectively adding the following line to
/etc/apt/sources.list (mirror is whatever mirror you have chosen):

deb http://mirrors.namecheap.com/ubuntu/ bionic-proposed universe
restricted multiverse main

You can then either use the software updater or apt to install the
kernel. I used the following apt command on the command line:

 apt-get install linux-generic

This command automatically pulled in the other dependencies such as the
kernel headers and modules from the -proposed repository.

I have tested 4.15.0-26-generic from the -proposed repository and it
runs fine under kvm/qemu. The -24 version did not boot for me under
kvm/kemu. Not sure if I am supposed to change the tag to verification-
done-bionic or if that is supposed to be done by the person who
originally filed the bug report. The one that I filed got marked as a
duplicate. Thank you for your support in resolving this issue.

  Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  Release: 18.04

I've installed all the latest updates in my KVM/QEMU VM. After doing so I
can boot the 4.15.0-23-generic kernel just fine. When I try to boot the -24
kernel my system hangs. Once I try to boot the -24 kernel, I can no longer go
back and boot the -23 kernel. It hangs as well. I reverted to an older QeMU
snapshot and then I can boot the -23 kernel. Repeated again, and once I
attempt to boot the -24 kernel, can no longer boot older kernels, so it appears
that it is changing or damaging something on my system.

Hang looks like this. If I boot with quiet, splash and hit escape, I get an
error:
A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (20s / no
limit)

If I remove quiet, splash option, I just get the following and the system is
hung, never gives login prompt:
[ OK ] Started Tool to automatically coolect and submit kernel crash
signatures
[ OK ] Started User Manager for UID 120.

- Note, I have installed the 4.15.0-24-generic kernel directly on my host

2018-07-03 Thread Nataraj
I have provided the requested information, however this was run under
the -23 kernel, since I am not able to successfully boot the -24 kernel.
I could potentially try to boot a recovery disk and poke around after
attempting to boot the -24 kernel, but I'm not sure what I am looking
for, so I will wait for further direction from you.

[Bug 1766939] Re: dnsmasq won't start [Ubuntu 18.04]

2018-04-26 Thread Nataraj
I have resolved the issue of dnsmasq not starting. The cause was that
virbr0 was listed in /etc/network/interface. Removing it solved the
problem. This was my error since I had put it there while trying to
configure virbr0 without dnsmasq (which I have now done sucessfully).

I still consider it a bug that there is no obvious way to edit the
configuration file for dnsmasq when it is started by libvirtd and would
still be interested in an answer to that question as well as better
documentation for the libvirtd/dnsmasq configuration.

[Bug 1762588] Re: thunderbird 52.6.0/18.04 beta compact folder broken

2018-04-25 Thread Nataraj
I noticed that Thunderbird was upgraded to 52.7 in the 18.04 release,
but for some reason the problem still exists (compact folder missing
from the folder menu) and still works consistantly for me under Ubuntu
14.04. I'm not sure why. I'm planning to upgrade my IMAP server and
hoping that will resolve the issue.

[Bug 1766939] [NEW] dnsmasq won't start [Ubuntu 18.04]

2018-04-25 Thread Nataraj
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu 18.04 All updates: Current
Could also be a libvirt problem.

When libvirtd tries to start dnsmasq, I get the following error and dnsmasq
fails to start:
libvirtd[2125]: 2018-04-24 20:38:47.073+: 2178: error :
virNetDevIPAddrAdd:223 : Failed to add IP address 1
error: Failed to add IP address 10.1.2.1/24 bcast 10.1.2.255 to virbr0

This was previously working. If I edit
/etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/default.xml and change the name of the
interface to virbr1 dnsmasq starts up correctly, change the name back to
virbr0 and it fails. Tried a find on the filesystem of '*virbr*' to see
if there were any files left that shouldn't be there, but found only a
couple of flag files (don't remember the name), 1 under /var/run and the
other I think was in /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq. Deleted those but stll
doesn't work. I have also shutdown any other services that were binding
to the virbr0 interface while testing this.

How can I edit /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.conf, or in some other
way pass my own config parameters to dnsmasq? Instructions inside the
file say to use "virsh net-edit default", but that edits
/etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/default.xml which is a different file? If I
edit default.conf with a normal editor, it gets overwritten by libvirtd.

It appears that the dnsmasq config file is generated automaticlly by
libvirtd and then dnsmasq is started by libvirtd, so I can't see
anywhere to put my own config options, short of rebuilding libvirtd from
source. According to the man page adding the option 'port=0' to the
dnsmasq configuration will disable dns so that dnsmasq will no longer
listen on port 53. This is what I would like to do.

It would be nice to know how to create the virtual NIC needed to route traffic
from the VM's onto my network. Don't want to bridge onto LAN interface, because
system is connected to multiple vlans and wireless when traveling.
I can handle DNS and DHCP using bind9 and isc-dhcp-server and would prefer to
run 1 instance of these servers for both the host and all guest VM's. Seems to
defeat the purpose of a cache to run a seperate caching dns server for the host
and for the VM's, and then another if you have multiple virtual network
interfaces for different VM's. If I could do this easily, then I wouldn't need
dnsmasq at all.

Thank You
Natu

[Bug 1762588] [NEW] thunderbird 52.6.0/18.04 beta compact folder broken

2018-04-09 Thread Nataraj
Public bug reported:

Under Thunderbird 52.6.0/Ubuntu 18.04 latest beta, when I connect to an
IMAP server running Dovecot dovecot-1.0.7-9.el5_11.4 the compact command
is missing from the individual folder menus. Works fine when I connect
to Gmail's IMAP server.

Thunderbird 52.7.0 under Ubuntu 14.04 does not have this issue. I notice
that the version of Thunderbird under 18.04 is actually older than the
version under 14.04.

I sugguest an update to a more recent and stable release of Thunderbird
before the final release date.

Thank You,
Nataraj

[Bug 1053022] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 crashes if lan cable is pulled out from emachines laptop

2012-11-04 Thread Nataraj
Have you checked to see weather the NetworkManager process is still
running when this occurs, and if it is not, try plugging the cable back
in and restarting NetworkManager. Also check /var/log/syslog.

I am seeing an issue where if I boot my 12.04.1 server with the cable
unplugged, NetworkManager dies (it must be repeatedly crashing, because
I think upstart tries to restart it). Also, if I unplug the cable
while the server is up and then use nmcli to try to start a 3g modem
interface, NetworkManager sometimes dies. In both cases, if I plug the
cable back in, I can restart NetworkManager.

I can see that there's alot going on here, and I do run scripts that
shutdown the interfaces when I update iptables lists, so I'm not sure I
can easily provide instructions on how to reproduce this. It may be
related to the RealTek 9139 driver.

My hardware is a tiny box with a VIA EDEN chip and RealTek RTL8139
interfaces.

I am in the process of moving, so can't spend alot of time debugging
this right now, but will try to provide further information in the
coming weeks.

Re: [Bug 152199] Re: gnome-dictionary crashes on unchecking 'Sidebar' option in View menu

2007-11-07 Thread nataraj
I should have reported that the bug was not present in the version of
gnome-dictionary i use in Ubuntu Gutsy (fully updated as i write this). So
if gnome has been updated in Feisty (wherein i found the bug) to 2.20.0, i
guess the bug would be invalid there too. My apologies for the late reply :)

[Bug 150984] Re: Title of the 'Similar words' frame in gnome-dictionary gets overlapped by the Close Frame and Sort icons, when the frame is re-sized

2007-10-12 Thread nataraj
Sebastien: Thank you for noticing the bug. :)
It would be great if it works like the side-pane in gEdit aka Text Editor -
part of the text is hidden followed by

Along with the provision to fully slide the pane to the border like in
Nautilus, so that F9/Ctrl+T need not be pressed every time the side-pane
is needed.
