[Bug 1286552] Re: No wifi after suspend

2014-10-23 Thread Neil Hollow
Sorry spoke too soon, it worked with a brief period of suspend (screen
did go blank) but is not working again. Tried #93 for what I thought
might be the equivalent file no joy.

[Bug 562224] Re: fan stays on since lucid beta 2 upgrade

2010-06-09 Thread Neil Hollow
I'm having the same problem running lucid LTS once fan starts it doesn't
switch off. I have a fan control file but but unless this is not being
loaded it doesn't help. In 9.10 I had this problem but solved by
hacking grub with something I think

quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux

Can confirm the problem in 2.6.31-15-generic Karmic on Tosh sateillite

reception was much better on old laptop with different card in same
places in house. Speed is also erratic.

Definitely a bug on 8.10 no question this camera canon ixus 70 worked in
8.04 etc, the suggestion of switching the camera on then plugging in has
worked for me, but this was unnecessary before. Problem seems to have
gone away on Jaunty.

[Bug 302832] Re: no sound

2008-12-30 Thread Neil Hollow
This is how I solved it. I installed the generic linux headers.

sudo aptitude install linux-ubuntu-modules-`uname -r` linux-generic

I was reluctant to do this in case it solved more problems than it
solved. This uninstalled some parts of a third party program but has
caused no problems. This on reboot gave me back my sound volume applet
but still no sound. Next I went into preferences-sound and on the
devices tab set everything that would to auto-detect. Then it worked.
This has also got totem working too, before this it wouldn't play
anything. Hope this helps someone. Happy new year.

[Bug 302832] Re: no sound

2008-11-29 Thread Neil Hollow
I've had a look at the debugging sound problems nothing has worked.
Gnome alsa mixer crashes out with a segmentation fault.

 sudo aplay -l
[sudo] password for nrh1:
aplay: device_list:215: no soundcards found...
system -preferences-sound selecting alsa and test gives this message

audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Could not get/set settings from/on resource. and hangs
this applet.

Now please can you tell me how to solve this problem which has not
existed in all prevous versions of ubuntu I have used.
