[Bug 423962] [NEW] 9.10 alpha 5 grub syntax error

2009-09-03 Thread Nikolaus.x
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bug-buddy

I just downloaded and installed the 9.10 alpha 5 i386 iso, and installed
Ubuntu on a Dell Precision M65 (XP 32bit SP3) using Wubi. Once rebooted
and I can choose between Windows and Ubuntu, when I choose Ubuntu I get
the following every single time:

syntax error
Incorrect command
syntax error
Could not find a bootloader configuration
syntax error
Incorrect command
syntax error
sh:grub

Wubi did not successfully install in alpha 4 nor alpha 3, but even with
alpha 5 Wubi can't install 9.10 correctly. This getting tiring.

9.10 alpha 3 and 4 just went into a reboot spiral when installed using
Wubi. At least alpha 5 doesn't go into a reboot spiral, but alphas of
9.04 and 8.10 were able to install using Wubi most of the time.

Re: [Bug 213422] Closing the report

2008-08-27 Thread Nikolaus.x
I am very disappointed by that. You can not expect every user of
Ubuntu to be a trained tester/debugger who can provide a yellow brick
road to the solution. I thought the whole point of Ubuntu was to get
more people using Linux as a viable alternative to Windows or MAC OS?
I had a serious issue happen, provided the best info I could, trying
my best to help this cause.

I was then taken to the GRUB4DOS 0.4.3 menu. I could not find any way to
successfully boot into Ubuntu, after several tries. I then booted into XP

unreadable or corrupted. Last I checked the size of this directory was a
little over 9GB, and I thought I had only set it up to install an 8GB size
originally. I decided to reboot XP with Chkdsk on, and yes XP said my disk

[Bug 223389] [NEW] 8.04 Gnome panel Date and Time locks panel on Startup

2008-04-27 Thread Nikolaus.x
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I have observed this issue in the Released 8.04 as well as various alpha
versions. When I startup Ubuntu and if I immediately proceed to open
the Date/Time in Gnome Panel, then the entires panel becomes
unresponsive. I am unable to click on the On button to select a
Restart, and if I Ctrl+Alt+Del and click on Restart, Ubuntu then also
does not Restart. I was able to use Switch User, but when Ubuntu Gnome
came back up the Gnome Panel was mostly blank. This issue does not seem
to occur if upon Ubuntu startup I don't immediately go to Date Time
then Gnome panel seems to act normally.

[Bug 212420] [NEW] [Hardy beta] Partial Update caused Firefox to be removed

2008-04-05 Thread Nikolaus.x
Public bug reported:

Running Hardy Beta and I run Update Manager several times a day. Around
1pm CDT I run Update Manger and 6 updates were availble. I was informed
I should only do a Partial Update, which I did, and was told it was
successful. The Icon in the top panel for Firefox was replaced with a
terminal Icon. Right clicking this Terminal icon showed it was still
linked to Firefox. I hoped a reboot and looking for more Updates would
fix this, but it did not. After reboot the Terminal Icon was replaced
by the springy looking blank launcher, and I can not bring up Firefox
any other way since it is also not in the Applications Menu. Also, if I
right click on an .html file I can not select Firefox as a program to
open it. If I had not earlier installed Opera, I would not be able to
write this bug report on Launchpad. This is a major issue. With
Firefox being the only pre-installed browser in Ubuntu, if Firefox goes
down there is no more web access. Again, I am glad I previously
installed Opera as an alternative.

[Bug 200760] [NEW] [Hardy a6] Incorrect Daylight savings time

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After this weekend's time change to Daylight Saving time in USA/Canada,
Ubuntu does not show the correct time. See the screen capture I have
included. You'll notice that Dallas shows CST where as it should say
CDT, and that Waterloo (eastern timezone) is correct at EDT but the
difference from Eastern to Central is only 1 hour, not 2 hours as seen

[Bug 199536] [NEW] [Hardy a6] After Wubi install can't boot into GUI due to BusyBox/initramfs command prompt

2008-03-07 Thread Nikolaus.x
Public bug reported:

I had this issue only very recently with Hardy alpha 5 as well, and
hoped it would be fixed in alpha 6, but I guess not. After a Wubi
install of Hardy the system reboots, but doesn't successfully enter the
Ubuntu GUI because it stops at a command prompt. Here is what I see:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12)
initramfs

When I try to boot with the restore option, the boots also fails to
complete here:

/build/buildd/linux-2.6.24/drivers/hid/usbhid/hid-core.c: v2.6:USB HID
core driver

Sorry I can't be of more help. Seemed the original install of Hardy a5
was very good, but with more Updating a5 had this issue, and a6 does now
as well from the original ISO.

[Bug 198162] Re: GNOME Bug Report Tool missing arguments

2008-03-05 Thread Nikolaus.x
Sebastien, I am new to Ubuntu/Linux, and so don't know what a bug-buddy
is, nor what you mean by .local/share/applications. If you can point me
to some documentation I'd be happy to provide you with the info you
need.

[Bug 197849] Re: Click to open date/time causes unresponsiveness in GNOME Panel

2008-03-03 Thread Nikolaus.x
This appears to be fixed now from the package updates I did today
(3/3/08). Not sure what was the cause or the solution, but after the
package update I ran, I tried to click in the date/time/weather in the
panel and it worked again.

[Bug 198162] [NEW] GNOME Bug Report Tool missing arguments

2008-03-03 Thread Nikolaus.x
Public bug reported:

[Hardy alpha 5] Under Menu Programming there is the item Bug Report
Tool which seems to be a useful thing for running an alpha OS.
However it gives the following error when attempted to launch: Either
--appname or --package arguments are required.

This issue was also reported in: #191631 bug reporting tool gives error

Since that bug was turned into a question, I felt the need to file this
one since it really is a bug to have an main OS menu item produce an
error dialog and not launch at all. I have included a screen capture.

[Bug 197849] [NEW] Click to open date/time causes unresponsiveness in GNOME Panel

2008-03-02 Thread Nikolaus.x
Public bug reported:

Under Ubuntu Hardy alpha 5, recently clicking on the date/time/weather
display in the GNOME panel causes the panel to become unresponsive. I
am using GNOME Panel 2.21.92. The result is that panel stops being
active (Applications, Places, System, etc do not open when moused-
over or clicked) and a reboot via Ctrl+alt+del is very slow.
