[Bug 1135620] Re: System boots in text mode and X doesn't start
I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 with the proprietary nVidia drivers, the ones accessible from the Ubuntu system settings, which fixed the issue. Now crashes are a thing of the past and Ubuntu is rock-solid stable. [Bug 1176061] Re: Random system freezes
I’m currently using kernel version 3.8.0-26. Stability has been slightly improving over the past few kernel releases. Spontaneous system freezes decreased from 2-3 per day to once every couple of days over the past few weeks. Shutting down or rebooting the system from Unity has been working again for some time. However, launching an additional application (e.g. Eye of GNOME, Firefox, gedit or Inkscape) while another one is running (e.g. Chrome) still freezes the system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176061 Title: Random system freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1176061/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1176513] Re: Shutdown doesn’t turn the PC off
** Description changed: Shutting down the system from Unity by clicking the gear icon at the top right of the screen, selecting the shutdown option, and then clicking the shutdown icon at the center of the screen, doesn’t turn the PC off. The shutdown process is initiated and the screen with the Ubuntu logo at the center and a solid background color appears, but the PC remains on. I have to manually operate the PC's power switch to turn it off. Selecting the restart option rather than a shutdown doesn’t restart the PC either, same behavior. + + Issuing a shutdown or reboot from a shell with the "sudo shutdown -h + now" or "sudo shutdown -r now" command seems to consistently complete + the procedure and work correctly. Until upgrading from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 on the same hardware a couple of days ago, this feature worked correctly. [Bug 1176061] Re: Random system freezes
** Description changed: Occasionally the system randomly slows to a crawl within a matter of seconds, and then freezes. It no longer responds to mouse or keyboard input. I had upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 about 5 hours before first filing this bug, and the freeze happened at least 3 times. When the issue occurred the first times, the only running software was one or more web browsers (e.g. Google Chrome and/or Firefox). On one occasion the system froze just after launching LibreOffice Writer. There’s something that may be a consequence of the issue or related in some way. After one of the freezes, when booting the GRUB console was displayed before Ubuntu is started, and I had to press ENTER to launch the default and only operating system image (Ubuntu). The freeze seem to happen more frequently when a new application is launched (e.g. LibreOffice Writer, the Eye of GNOME image viewer, Firefox) while Google Chrome is running, or when a new Chrome tab is - opened. + opened. There seems to be a greater correlation of freezes when Eye of + GNOME is launched. I experienced similar freezes on the same hardware with Ubuntu 12.10 but much less frequently, once every several days instead of once every few hours with Ubuntu 13.04. [Bug 1135620] Re: System boots in text mode and X doesn't start
The attached Apport data was collected in a session activated by rebooting from a session in which the issue occurred. ** Description changed: At times the system boots in text mode, with the text "[OK]" (and occasionally some graphics gargabe in an area the size of a few text characters) on the screen, and X doesn't start. Once, I happened to hear the drums sound played by the Unity login screen after boot. I am able to get a shell with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. I experienced the issue with the kernel version recorded by Apport for this bug, as well as earlier versions. When it happens, I am able to get a fully working system, with X and Unity running fine, by just rebooting. My PC has an Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz × 4 with 8GB of RAM, a 450GB hard disk, and an Nvidia Quadro 400 graphics card. Ctrl+Alt+Fn and Ctrl+Alt+Del dont have any effect, and apparently also SysReq+key. The only way of regaining control is to switch off and on the PC with the power button. My PC has an Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz × 4 with 8GB of RAM, a 450GB hard disk, and an Nvidia Quadro 400 graphics card. I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.10 with the Noveau drivers. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129486 Title: System freezes when switching to guest session or other user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1129486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
