[Bug 578078] Re: regular system freezes with KMS on rc410 ati video chip
I can confirm this on an upgrade of Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04 (it was originally a Kubuntu 10.04 installation, but I added the Ubuntu Desktop also). As far as I know, KMS is still running (as I'm not sure how to disable it), and I have essentially the same dmesg output as the submitter. My lspci reveals 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RC410 [Radeon Xpress 200M] for my Video Card. Also, I keep getting this error in my dmesg (and the Display settings fail to recognize my Acer P241W monitor): [ 57.679894] [drm:radeon_vga_detect] *ERROR* VGA-1: probed a monitor but no|in valid EDID Patrick. -- regular system freezes with KMS on rc410 ati video chip https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574449] Re: random flickers on ubuntu lucid desktop
I noticed this whenever I started a virtual machine inside of VMWare Player. I'm on a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2194 laptop with a 32-bit processor and 1.5G RAM (running Kubuntu 10.04 32-bit). I'm not entirely sure if the issue is the same, but I posted a video of it on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILfuQYkRZx4 and will be rebooting with the i1915.powersave=0 line in my GRUB file. Hopefully it will work. I should note that my video card is an ATI Radeon x200 Mobile. Thanks, and have a great day:) Patrick. -- random flickers on ubuntu lucid desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219385] Re: File filters can make file selection dialog too wide for screen
Would the fix be as simple as having just the type (Picture or Image File or Video File) in the dialog, and having a tooltip pop up that shows the various extensions available in that format? Or would that create a different paper cut (in that people may be used to seeing things a certain way--especially former Windows users)? Have a great day:) Patrick. -- File filters can make file selection dialog too wide for screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410337] Re: Log in screen is confusing, not clear what to do
How about simply unselecting all of the usernames, so the user knows they have to click on the one they want. Or possibly using the old style with the last logged-in user as the pre-filled entry, and a dropdown that allows the user to find their name (if it's not the pre- filled one)? [Bug 378394] Re: KDE Crashes Whenever I Edit A Text File with Sudo
Will they be backporting the fix to 9.04? I have other issues that prevent me from upgrading to 9.10 on my laptop. The only time I use sudo is if I'm working with a file in a restricted folder (/etc or somewhere like that). If I'm not supposed to do this, then please explain how to edit a file in a restricted folder, when 1) I cannot log in as root (because Kubuntu/Ubuntu has the root account locked by default) and 2) I am not supposed to use sudo or kdesudo to open the editing file. Personally, I hate VIM and EMACS because I've never really learned how to use them properly. It's much easier to open the file in Kate or KWrite and edit it there. I'm running KDE 4.2.4 on Kubuntu 9.04. The computer is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2194 laptop with 1.5 G of RAM. Thanks, and have a great day:) Patrick. -- KDE Crashes Whenever I Edit A Text File with Sudo https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 508319] Re: installation of Kubuntu crashes on grub install sda
I should add this information also. It only happened when I tried to install using the Live CD. I ended up getting Kubuntu 9.10 to install and GRUB to work by doing two things (not sure which actually fixed it though). 1. I selected Install Now from the boot menu (bypassing the Live CD environment). 2. I completely wiped out the existing partitions for Kubuntu, and recreated them. Previously, I was trying to reinstall Kubuntu over an existing installation. This is because one of the recent security updates keeps leaving the computer un-usable (it comes up with the error about items in fstab needing to wait on something to close, and freezes up there). Ultimately, I went back to Kubuntu 9.04 for now, until I get a chance to dig into it more to find out what security update bricks the computer. *** This was after I successfully installed Kubuntu 9.10 and GRUB after having filed this bug report. I wasn't able to attach both files to the original submission. Attached is the syslog file. Also, I have previously installed Kubuntu on this computer. This was a reinstallation. I may have chosen the wrong option for GRUB (I chose sda). ** Attachment added: syslog http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37966718/syslog -- installation of Kubuntu crashes on grub install sda https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508319 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
