Public bug reported: The laptop freezes with the purple and ubuntu boot up logo and i need to press the shutdown button one time which shutdowns the laptop correctly and press the power button to start and it will start properly. The next day i start the laptop (or after a long pause) it happens again. freeze at boot logo, power button to shutdown, power button to start again and then it is ok. Public bug reported: In my laptop i have 2 entries under /sys/class/backlight * acpi_video0 * toshiba if if echo to acpi_video0 the brightness works, if i do to toshiba it does nothing. Gnome seems to only pick toshiba and there is no way to tell it to use acpi_video0 instead. BTW i have a toshiba laptop so i assume the toshiba entry is correct.
