While I am the Debian maintainer for libfilezilla and filezilla, I help
with these in Ubuntu on my own dime. If anyone wishes to help and allow
me more time to do this type of work, you can donate via the link below.

[Bug 2061954] Re: filezilla crashed with SIGABRT in start_thread()

2024-05-10 Thread Phil Wyett
[ Impact ]

File reading is not correctly performed and leaves the dependent package
filezilla in a state where uplaoding of files causes error and crashes the
application.

[ Test Plan ]

* Create vanilla[1] Virtual Machines (VMs) - Ubuntu 24.04.

* Test the bug exists in the VMs.
  - Setup connections to my kathenas server.
  - Uplod and dowload a variety of file types.
# *.txt
# *.mp4
# *.mp3
# *.ogg
and others.

  * Create vanilla[1] Virtual Machines (VMs) - Ubuntu 24.04.

  * Test the bug is fixed with submitted patch built into package and installed
in the VMs.
  - Setup connections to my kathenas server.
  - Uplod and dowload a variety of file types.
# *.txt
# *.mp4
# *.mp3
# *.ogg
and others.

  * Tests performed over days and conencting randomly to perform upload and
download tests.

  * Check for bug feedback when built and enters proposed updates
repository.

[ Where problems could occur ]

The patch allows for correct operation by changing the IO behaviour and alters
no other operation of the application. The patch has negligible risk for the
users
of this library and the dependent package filezilla.

Only filezilla consumes this library and there is no risk to any other
library/application.

[ Other Info ]

None.

[1] These are installations that have only Ubuntu repositories and no
applications installed other than the default install ones and the
package being test.

that bug. The bug will now be tested further and I will report it

[Bug 1283596] [NEW] 'Export Kmail Data' function missing dep

2014-02-22 Thread Phil Wyett
Public bug reported:

'Export KMail Data' function missing dep.

Reproduce...

 - From menu of kontact or kmail go 'Tools'.
 - Select 'Export KMail Data'.
 - 'PIM Setting Exporter' window will appear.
 - Select 'File' then 'Back Up Data'.
 - Work through dialogs and select zip file to save to etc.
 - 'Select Type - PIM Setting Export' dialog will appear. All boxes should be
selected by default.
 - Click on 'Ok' and wait.
 - Once complete the window will have info text in it. At the top in red text
it will tell you that 'mysqldump' is not installed.

mysqldump is required for correct export operation.

The command in question belongs to package 'mysql-client-5.5' which
needs to be added as a dep.

Once 'mysql-client-5.5', I had no issue with doing full backups.

[Bug 1241589] Re: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs)

2014-01-11 Thread Phil Wyett
One note. Most Gigabyte motherboards struggle booting off a USB created
with the USB creator app because it does not use FAT 16.

For gigabyte motherboards I use this method for non persistant live ISO
USB sticks.

Blank USB stick...

# Change X to device to be wiped.

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=4096

Write ISO to disk...

# Change file.iso for path/name of your ISO image.
# Change X to device to be wiped.

sudo dd bs=4M if=file.iso of=/dev/sdX sync

Then try boot it.

This is so minimal and saucy having a short life, I would not put the
time and effort into SRU'ing this for saucy.

[Bug 1264219] Re: Gnome 3 - Settings schema to disable login user list does not work

2013-12-25 Thread Phil Wyett
Making sure you have the lines below uncommented - it does work.

  [org.gnome.login-screen]
  disable-user-list=true

This is very poor and does not follow K.I.S.S. If available to edit via
the dconf editor it should work. If it requires sudo, the app should ask
for password. A user or admin should not be required to dig around for
information to perform this or similar tasks.

[Bug 1262071] Re: Cannot add/configure printer - Epson SX125 USB

2013-12-18 Thread Phil Wyett
Also tested on:

Ubuntu - 14.04 dev release - 20131217.

Offers a Epson proprietary driver to download and install, even though
install was a 'Free software only'. This driver when selected does
download, but fails to install.

Choosing a local driver. The system searches and just hangs at this
stage.

[Bug 1262069] Re: [Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3] Cannot boot from live ISO with more than one hdd attached to system

2013-12-18 Thread Phil Wyett
Re #3:

This bug only occurs when a specific kernel or other issue is wrapped
into the live ISO. When any additional hdd are disconnected the live ISO
boots fine and install can commence. Install will then go fine and the
kernel and system as a whole will work correctly.

What good will now testing a upstream kernel do on a now running system
and not wrapped intoa live ISO?

A better scenario for testing and debugging needs to be foud here and
not the canned ones.

This bug only happens booting the live ISO itself with more than one hdd

Would there be docs for ISO respinning with new kernel anywhere on the

[Bug 1262069] Re: [Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3] Cannot boot from live ISO with more than one hdd attached to system

2013-12-18 Thread Phil Wyett
Change of importance to 'low'.

I feel this bug should be 'high' or better 'critical' and would argue
that the importance should be raised.

Many OEMs and other installers use multi disk setups.

  * Many laptops have mSSD plus an SSD.
  * Many systems have more than one disk to split partitions.
  * Many systems have RAID setups.
  * Many systems carry an extra disk for temporary backup or storage purposes.

  ... List not exhaustive.

This bug affects many systems based on LP searches.

2013-12-18 Thread Phil Wyett
Re #8:

I can see where your point comes from for 'low' at this time, but I see
many instances of this bug on LP affecting many people.

Just for reference only: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1241589

This bug is also not good for the distro as a whole as it may exclude
new users of the 'Linux For Human Beings' who run into this bug and walk
away never to return. It can also affect those with multi disk systems
under warranty that excludes use of the workaround of disconnecting a
disk. It looks bad for a project as a whole PR wise when the flagship
product/an LTS has such a bug within it that may make users think that
Ubuntu and it's derivatives may have major quality issues.

Maybe I see more importance than others with regard this bug. Just my
opinion.
