[Bug 480671]
Indeed, something has changed. I don't know if the bug can be considered as fixed, but it does seem to be mitigated under 24.1.0. What, I think, is still annoying most of us (and the reason why I personally had not noticed the change) is that if you press Tab (which in principle does _not_ trigger autocompletion, i.e. if you just have just entered a prefix), Firefox does revert to the saved case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480671 Title: Firefox auto-completes login fields in a case-insensitive manner To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/480671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Brainstorm is just a technicality. The point is that - many users thought of Ubuntu's organization as a democracy without burocracy: when you have a nice mission (Linux for human beings), a nice codebase to start from (Debian), a nice group of people and a nice capital to start, who cares about the exact governing process?! There are several great examples of BDFL in Open Source. - instead the difference between Ubuntu and a(n ideal) democracy is not merely _technical_: they just _don't share the same goals and principles_ - in particular, Ubuntu has no commitment to do what is best for the community. - among the things that they do not share, is the way to communicate. That's why a very smart marketing campaign, with a nice and friendful logo, a name with deep meaning, a slogan that talks of humanity... all that may mislead people into having excessive expectations. OT And that's partly stupid, because in 2010 we should all know what marketing is. Probably a partial excuse is that in the Open Source world there is less abitude to those techniques. /OT But please don't point at _technical particulars_ of how Ubuntu is not a democracy, I think it's not the point. It just _is not_ a democracy, Mark himself stated it clearly, and we have no right to recriminate. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The theme-dependent buttons are _bad news_, for two reasons: 1) they make clear that the experiment is much more than an experiment 2) the reason for the switch was to put something new (and certainly great - though unfortunately secret, at the moment) on the right side: it means that whatever direction Ubuntu is going, custom theme users will be left out. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Many right things have been said (and scarcely considerated, but that's another story), just one added observation: all comments of the form they're just buttons, you can change it, and partially also you can change distribution are simply irresponsible. _I_ can change it, and probably will. But I installed 20 Ubuntus, and certainly distributed it and suggested it to much many people in my LUG activity. I don't control their systems, and I _know_ many of them will have troubles when they upgrade. I also know they don't read this bug. For instance, I know my grandmother will call me saying something's wrong, and I will fix the issue on _her_ computer, and say sorry on behalf on Ubuntu. But next time, I'll probably install Debian. So yes, you can change distribution is a partially correct answer... though after putting so much trust and work in this one I suffer in admitting that I was simply very irresponsible in trusting in something that is not a democracy (in my ingenuity, I would have sweared that englightened dictatorship was just the perfect form of leadership for such a project). Notice _I_ will probably keep using Ubuntu: it's simpler, more up-to- date. It's just not something I can afford to publicize, install and distribute, now I know the decision making process behind it. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 528326] Re: Sync libsynthesis 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 from debian sid
I have been experimenting with several combinations of syncevolution and libsynthesis, and unfortunately I found that syncevolution 0.9.1+ds1-1 currently doesn't work in combination with _any_ libsynthesis version, triggering the bug described at 2) in my first comment: evolution-data- server at 100% of CPU, and nothing happens. The bug had disappeared in some upgrade of evolution-data-server, but later was reintroduced, and now happens _always_. That's why I wasn't able so far to test the specific compatibility of the new libsynthesis with the current syncevolution. Instead, syncevolution 1.0+ds1~beta2a, which is in sid since 15 days (stopped from migrating to testing only by architectures not supported by Ubuntu and dependencies already present in Lucid) works perfectly in my (massive) tests. Now: 1.0 _does_ introduce new features - namely, the ability of syncing without a third-party server - but I think it is still by far the best way to solve the current problem. Obviously, it _may_ be that at some point before the release of Lucid I upgrade evolution-data-server again and everything works again... but I have no clue on that. That said: assuming that the request to sync 1.0+ds1~beta2a is _not_ accepted, and assuming that the 100% CPU bug is somehow solved, the upstream developers (who don't use lucid and _don't see_ the 100% CPU bug) have said that the current syncevolution and libsynthesis are _probably_ compatible apart from one particular problem - in brief, after one applies the patch at http://lists.syncevolution.org/pipermail/syncevolution/attachments/20100309/11670673/attachment.bin -- Sync libsynthesis 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 from debian sid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Assuming (and I think it's true) that the majority of Ubuntu users' native language is written from left to right, it is also important to notice that both human eyes and screen readers will want to first read the title of a window, and only after see buttons which yield no information at all (since they are the same in all windows). AHEM... what you synced is apparently not 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 , which was the most recent present in Debian unstable when I filed this request, but 3.4.0.5+ds1-1 , which is in unstable since just 2 days. I may ask to upstream and debian maintainer if 3.4.0.5+ds1-1 is acceptable with the currently available version of syncevolution (and I think the answer would be positive), but I won't if, as I imagine, after you read this you will immediately revert the sync to 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 (in case the information could prove useful, that version migrated to testing 3 days ago). If instead you decide to keep the currently synced version - which, by the way, could incidentally solve the problem with Ubuntu One mentioned in the first of my comments - I will obviously test it and try to ensure all is fine. -- Sync libsynthesis 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 from debian sid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 528326] Re: Sync libsynthesis 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 from debian sid
Hello, the benefits of the release are: - the linked bug, which it fixes, was (is) cause of data corruption! - other refinements and bugfixes have been made by the developers the risk of regressions is quite limited, because: - syncevolution and the relative libraries are tipically high quality and tested code, as can be deduced for instance from the very low number of bugs present in Debian and Ubuntu (compared with the increasing popcon) - the debian package is out since one month and a half and in unstable since two weeks - in other words, it was presumably tested much more than some packages that enter Ubuntu automatically - the debian maintainer and the upstream developers are very responsive, and I'm in contact with both - in any case, the most important feature added - namely, the ability for syncevolution to act as a syncml server - was only made available in 1.0, which will certainly not enter Lucid. So the current syncevolution configuration is anyway quite conservative. - by the way, syncevolution (with sync-ui) is the only rdepend of libsynthesis That said, it must be noticed that the package _is having_ some problems in lucid, but they are not regressions: 1) it doesn't play well with the Ubuntu One contacts: this is known upstream, but I think it's to late for the fix to enter lucid. This is not a regression of syncevolution, though the fact that now (or maybe even in Karmic? sorry, I ignore) Ubuntu One holds contacts by default makes the worsen the issue. 2) in a vast percentage of tests, syncevolution hangs with evolution- data-server using all the available CPU: this is very unfortunate, but it happens with the current version of syncevolution as well, and hence seems to be a problem on the evolution side: I will anyway keep testing that and try to isolate the problem. -- Sync libsynthesis 3.2.0.35+ds2-2 from debian sid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 406798] [NEW] bad script activation breaks apt/dpkg
Public bug reported: binary nautilus-script-audio-convert contains a call to nautilus-script- manager to enable the script. While the thing is broken per se, as reported in bug #130055, which is however a simple wishlist, the real bug, mentioned in the end, comes if the package is removed by some user which didn't install it. To reproduce, assuming you don't have the package installed just do: sudo apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert sudo su apt-get remove nautilus-script-audio-convert There are two possible fixes: - catch the error nautilus-script-manager raises and just go on - remove completely the call, upload nautilus-scripts-manager (http://www.pietrobattiston.it/nautilus-scripts-manager/) to Universe, replace the Depends on nautilus-script-manager with a Recommends on nautilus-scripts-manager (notice the s). This would fix #130055 too. ** Affects: audio-convert (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- bad script activation breaks apt/dpkg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406798 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 130055] Re: Nautilus audio convert script doesn't activate itself
@Nicolas (and other users): Yes, indeed. Synaptic runs as user root, so all happened is that the script was enabled for root user. I've written a small scripts manager you may want to try. The package is attached to this post (nautilus-scripts-manager_1.2-1_all.deb), and once installed you find it in System - Preferences. I'm trying to get it into Debian and hence Ubuntu repositories, but with no luck so far. Otherwise, a dirtier but simpler solution to your problem is just typing: ln -s /usr/share/nautilus-scripts/ConvertAudioFile ~/.gnome2/nautilus- scripts/ConvertAudioFile in a terminal. @Emmet (or other Ubuntu devs): since nautilus-script-manager is bugged (and ugly), if you think nautilus-scripts-manager (notice the s) could make it in Ubuntu Universe (and maybe become a Recommend for packages currently depending on nautilus-script-manager, effectively replacing it), you can find source at http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/n/nautilus-scripts-manager/ changing unstable to karmic is all what should be needed. I _can_ also upload it on REVU, but not if it's only to loose time and make the needs review list longer (to be clear, I'm not blaming anyone, the difficulty of getting a package sponsored is just a fact). (just for reference, I'm already Debian maintainer of gvb and python-shapely) ** Attachment added: nautilus-scripts-manager_1.2-1_all.deb http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29480317/nautilus-scripts-manager_1.2-1_all.deb -- Nautilus audio convert script doesn't activate itself https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 130055] Re: Nautilus audio convert script doesn't activate itself
To everyone still having problems: the problem is that the fix is broken. (The nautilus-scripts system itself is almost broken) Currently, the fix just enables the script for the user installing the package. This means that if user A types sudo apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert , user B will still have to manually install the script. But there's more (and more urgent, that's why I'm reopening the bug): if user A installs the package and user B tries to uninstall it, then dpkg breaks because the postrm script doesn't find the file it should unlink. Notice it's really not unrealistic even in mono-user systems, since it can be reproduced by just: sudo apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert sudo su apt-get remove nautilus-script-audio-convert On this point, I'd ask Emmet to modify his scripts by adding tests if file exists before trying to remove it. On the more general issue of improving nautilus scripts useability for all users, I'll try to do some work, but I'll open a different bug. ** Changed in: audio-convert (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Confirmed -- Nautilus audio convert script doesn't activate itself https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
