[Bug 1437846] Re: akonadi mysql 5.6 crash with signal 11

2015-10-23 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
I've had similar problems. It seems to me that the default Akonadi
options for MySQL include a table_cache parameter, but it's been
deprecated since 5.1 and in 5.6 prevents a start of the database.
Removing this options did the trick for me.

In MariaDB documentation there's a remark that "all versions of MariaDB
are based on MySQL 5.1 and greater, thus the table_cache option is
deprecated in favor of table_open_cache."

[Bug 1494621] [NEW] kio is considered an orphan by deborphan

2015-09-11 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Public bug reported:

kio package is in the "libs" section and since no other package depends
on it (other than kubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-full), deborphan happily
recommends removal of this package in a nonstandard Kubuntu
installation.

kio is essential for many, if not all of the KDE applications. I suppose
kde-runtime or kdelibs-bin should depend on it too, not only kubuntu
metapackages.

2013-07-30 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
FWIW the related bug #1070773 is fixed by the kernel 3.8.0-28.41 from
raring-proposed - it also containts the necessary patch radeon: Fix
system hang issue when using KMS with older cards.

[Bug 1070773] Re: 1002:7188 system hangs on boot (at loading radeon related modules)

2013-07-30 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Apparently proposed kernel updates for quantal (3.5.0-37.58) and
raring (3.8.0-28.41) both carry the necessary patch: radeon: Fix system
hang issue when using KMS with older cards. Indeed, the updated kernel
for raring works fine :-)

[Bug 1081034] [NEW] invalid logrotate configuration for unattended-upgrades

2012-11-20 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Public bug reported:

Unattended-upgrades logrotate configuration (/etc/logrotate.d
/unattended-upgrades) makes all the u-u logs rotate, not only the main
unattended-upgrades.log file, but also daily session logs unattended-
upgrades-dpkg-$DATE.log.

Daily log files shouldn't be rotated since they're created one per
session and are never written again.

Changing log file definition from
/var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades*.log
to wildcardless
/var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log
should resolve this problem.

[Bug 1070773] Re: system hangs on boot (at loading radeon related modules)

2012-10-25 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
According to RH bug report comment, the problem was introduced with an upstream
merge commit f9369910a6225b8d4892c3f20ae740a711cd5ace (before 3.5.0-rc1
release).
Indeed: 3.4.0-5.11 boots fine, 3.5.0-1.1 (upstream 3.5.0-rc3) freezes.

[Bug 1070773] [NEW] system hangs on boot (at loading radeon related modules)

2012-10-24 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Public bug reported:

After an upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 (kernel 3.5), the system fails to boot.
When starting without quiet splash options, the last kernel messages
to loading and initializing radeon and drm modules. After adding a
nomodeset option, the system boots but doesn't switch to the native
resolution of 1280x800, leaves as 1024x768.

Same problems are here when trying to boot 12.10 live usb images, both
32- and 64-bit.

I'm currently using 3.2 kernel from Precise, which boots fine.

[Bug 1070773] Re: system hangs on boot (at loading radeon related modules)

2012-10-24 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
I did the test with the mainline kernel and it failed too.

There's a similar report in the RedHat Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845745
- boot freezes with Fedora's 3.5 kernel, also reported on the same hardware as
here (HP Compaq 6910p Mobility Radeon X2300).
Apparently this bug can affect other graphics drivers as well.

[Bug 883962] Re: cannot add m4a files

2011-11-10 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
It seems that the gtkpod 1.0 from natty used a libmp4v2 library in order
to process M4A files. The newer version doesn't nor is libmp4v2
available.

Downgrading gtkpod using gtkpod, gtkpod-data, libgpod4 and libmp4v2-0
packages from natty seems to do the trick.

For example, I get such a crash with the current version of
http://planetkde.org (also with a copy saved with Chromium). I tried
disabling all the addons and it seems that the crash is caused by
Firebug.

Using Ubuntu: 11.04
Firefox 5.0+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.2
Firebug: 1.8.0 through the official Mozilla addon channel
xserver-xorg-video-radeon: 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4.1

I experienced similar crashes also in previous releases of Ubuntu.

[Bug 691938] [NEW] ati radeon dri performance regression

2010-12-18 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

There's a serious desktop effects performance regression in Kubuntu
Natty. KWin reports 20 FPS what makes desktop effects unusable. In
Kubuntu Maverick, KWin reports 60 FPS.

A similar performance regression can be observed after updating i386
Maverick with the latest Xorg server and drivers from xedgers-ppa.

As you see, there's no conflict whatsoever. In fact library package

[Bug 596327] Re: Digikam imports images taken with Nikon Cameras extremely slow, takes a large amount of time processing exif data

2010-11-30 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
I'd suggest not to wait for an official fix, which is expected in April,
2011, but to fix it yourself.

My solution:
- grab libexiv2-9 and libexiv2-dev from Debian testing (current version is
0.20-2) and install them,
- get source packages for kdegraphics and rebuild them,
- install the rebuild libkexiv2-8 package (no need to update the other ones),
- you might want to mark this package hold in order to prevent it from being
updated, at least until it gets fixed in Ubuntu.

[Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2010-04-14 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
@Sebastien Bacher

Windows defaults:
- two finger tap, three finger tap: no action (typical version of Synaptics
drivers doesn't make use of these, however Synaptics Gestures Suite - if
provided by the laptop manufacturer - may add support for three finger tap),
- one finger scrolling on side of the touchpad.

MacOS defaults:
- I believe that it can be configured so that two finger tap acts as right
click, but then again Mac mice haven't got a right button anyway,
- two finger scrolling.

Linux defaults *for years* before Karmic:
- two finger tap as middle click, three finger tap as right click,
- one finger scrolling on side of the touchpad,
- I noticed that two finger scrolling is recently on by default, however it is
sometimes hard to properly distinguish between two finger tap and two finger
scroll, so I chose to disable scrolling.

[Bug 421173] [NEW] suphp not enabled by default

2009-08-29 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Public bug reported:

By default, suPHP is configured in a way that should enable suPHP for
all sites within root directory with exception for distro-packaged
webapps that reside in /usr/share (for which mod-php5 is used).

However when both suphp and php5 modules are enabled in apache2, the
default for all php files is still mod-php5. With only suphp enabled,
distro-packages webapps such as phpmyadmin don't work since their files
are owned by root.

Debian packages carry a necessary fix that involves changing

[Bug 230070] Re: irq 19: nobody cared

2008-05-15 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
irqpoll doesn't help.

The 2.6.25-1.2ubuntu4 kernel enables use of the SD card reader, but
causes problems with Intel 4965 WiFi card.
