[Bug 1915893] [NEW] Surface Book 2 - wifi adapter disappears after a couple of days

2021-02-16 Thread Praveen B
Public bug reported:

I was evaluating the newly released Xubuntu 20.04.2 LTS by creating a
LiveUSB from the ISO.

All I did was to connect to wifi and browse internet using Firefox.
After two days of occasional usage, I found that wifi adapter has
disappeared from NetworkManager (and output of iwconfig as well).

Attached the relevant portions of dmesg output.

Output of 'lsb_release -rd':

[Bug 1855165] [NEW] gvfsd-dav crashed with SIGSEGV

2019-12-04 Thread Praveen B
Public bug reported:

Setup
Lubuntu 19.10

Steps to Reproduce
* Using the file manager, pcmanfm-qt, perform a secure webdav mount using 'Go'
-> 'Connect to server' option
* After mounting the remote dav folder, attempt to perform a copy of a large
file (> 500M) from local machine to remote folder

Expected behavior
File copy should succeed

Observed behavior
file manager crashes and the mount is no longer present

Additional Information
When I attempted to gather more information by attaching gdb to the gfvsd-dav
process, I was unable to reproduce the problem. Without gdb, problem readily
reproduces at my end.

[Bug 1499746] Re: Early Syslinux Boot Error in pendrive made with the Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator

2015-09-28 Thread Praveen B
If you are using Ubuntu 15.10 Beta 2 (Wily), then the workaround is to
manually download syslinux_6.03+dfsg-5ubuntu1 debian package from Vivid
repository, extract syslinux binary and use it instead.

syslinux doesn't have other dependencies and other files used when
creating a bootable usb (viz.mbr.bin) are identical between Vivid and
Wily.

The error is primarily due to ldlinux.sys (which gets generated from
syslinux). ldlinux.sys generated from Vivid syslinux doesn't have the
issue.

[Bug 697189] [NEW] Brasero crashed while trying to make a 1:1 copy

2011-01-04 Thread Praveen B
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I am running Xubuntu 10.10 on usb stick (with persistence enabled).

After installing brasero (Brasero 2.32.0), I tried to create 1:1 copy of
a dvd to an iso image on the disk.

Brasero crashed with the following in syslog (/var/log/messages)
Jan 3 20:51:18 ubuntu kernel: [ 7471.061462] brasero[10175]: segfault at 14 ip
0067ee29 sp bf843ad8 error 6 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2600.0[66a000+cd000]

I was unable to report this via apport because it complained on outdated
packages. My apologies for that (I was under the impression that the
apport would work because I was using the latest ubuntu maverick).

I tried 'brasero --debug &> ~/Documents/brasero-crash-debug.log', but all this
gave was:
'Please type "brasero --help" to see all available options'

I have reproduced this defect on three different machines (using the
same usb stick).

I see that there is a newer version of brasero (2.32.1-0ubuntu1
according to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero). Is it
possible for me to try this newer version? If yes, where can I find
instructions to do that.

Also please let me know:
a. if I have reported this defect at a wrong place.
b. how I can provide more information w.r.t this defect.

[Bug 664341] Re: xfce4-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__OBJECT()

2010-12-28 Thread Praveen B
My apologies for not being able to make a note of the steps that I have
done before I saw the crash.

* Is this reproducible?

No. I have not been able to reproduce this problem after that.

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
Not Applicable.

Kindly close this defect. If I see this defect again, I shall make a
note of steps that might have caused. Also please let me know if there
are any debug flags that I can turn on (specific to xfce4-terminal, that
is) to be able to provide more information.

[Bug 676834] Re: software-center crashed with SIGSEGV in FcFontRenderPrepare()

2010-12-26 Thread Praveen B
I was running Xubuntu 10.10 on a usb-stick (with persistence-enabled).

Here is what I remember to have done.

* what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
I have opened Software Center (via the Xfce Menu) and searched for openoffice.
Then the crash occurred.

* Could you please provide the output from running "software-center --debug"
I have attached the output (but given that there was no crash this time, I am
not sure if the output would really help)

I was (and am) unable to reproduce the defect after the first time it
happened.

Let's close this defect. If I see the crash again, I will re-open it
with additional information (such as running software-center --debug and
attaching the output).

2010-11-04 Thread Praveen B
My sincere apologies for not providing enough information.

Until now, the bugs that I raised in ubuntu weren't manually raised, but
were raised by some automated application which adds all the necessary
details itself. However, as you mentioned this didn't quite happen well
this time.

I really am at a loss as to what kind of information is to be added to
this as I haven't quite done it even once before.

Once again, sorry for taking the time of Ubuntu developers without
providing the necessary information.. I will close the bug.

Re: [Bug 492301] Re: Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow

2010-09-04 Thread Praveen B
Hi,
I was able to get over this problem by creating the usb stick with the next
version of usb-creator (0.x.20). In fact I was able to create
persistence-enabled usb sticks for versions botth 9.10 and 10.04 with no
problems none whatsoever with the next version of usb-creator (i.e. after
0.1.16).

I think the problem was probably with 0.1.16.

Sorry for not closing/updating the defect. I was hesitant to declare
that the defect was solved because even others chipped in with similar
sounding problems. I did respond to their concerns that my problem did
go away and that I was able to proceed, but I don't think that quite
solved the issues of others.

Thanks much for getting to this defect. It really boosts the confidence
of the users that Ubuntu takes these submitted launchpad bugs very
seriously.

And finally, kudos for a wonderful distro! (I didn't even have to
consider an another linux option since last two years)

Praveen

[Bug 492301] Re: Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow

2010-05-11 Thread Praveen B
Friends,
I have used the usb-creator (0.2.22 reported by synaptic on lucid xubuntu) to
create a live usb using xubuntu 10.04 iso image. I was able to successfully
boot it up and get to the Xfce desktop manager. I am not able to see the
problem you guys are facing.

All the previous trials I did were with xubuntu. May be there is a
problem with other flavors of ubuntu.

[Bug 492301] Re: Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow

2010-05-10 Thread Praveen B
I have recently created a Lucid liveUSB disk using Karmic's 'Startup
Disk Creator' and the liveUSB is working fine (I am writing this from
Lucid liveUSB). The version of Karmic's 'Startup Disk Creator' was
0.2.12 according to synaptic. I haven't tried with 0.2.22.

[Bug 525245] Re: umount.hal assert failure: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /sbin/umount.hal terminated

2010-05-10 Thread Praveen B
Ubuntu Team,
I plugged in a usb drive, that essentially shows up as a cdrom in /etc/mtab
(basically shows type of filesystem as iso instead of the usual vfat). I
tried to eject it using 'eject ' and 'eject
' and in both occasions I got this bug. However, there
was an icon on my desktop (icon was a cdrom), which had an option of 'Eject' in
its right-click menu. I used that option to eject the device and the device was
ejected without any error.

I tried searching for the 0.5.14-0ubuntu6 in synaptic and on
packages.ubuntu.com but could not find it. How can I find the package so
that I can update?

Hi,
The workaround asks you to disable persistence completely right?

I wanted persistence and found a solution to the problem. To use a later
version of 'usb-creator' v0.2.12 which has no problems with persistence.

If you want persistence, try using that version of 'usb-creator'.

Thanks,
Praveen

[Bug 492301] Re: Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow

2009-12-13 Thread Praveen B
Thank you, Joe. The workaround solves the problem.

However, I was trying to create a disk with persistence and the bug I
raised was w.r.t the sizes with which persistence works and doesn't
work.

[Bug 492301] [NEW] Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow

2009-12-04 Thread Praveen B
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usb-creator

LiveUSB stick created using this program failed to boot. The size of my
usb stick is 2GB.

The version of usb-creator I have is 0.1.16 (according to synaptic)

1. I created a persistence-enabled 128MB (default value) drive with xubuntu
9.10 desktop i386 iso image.
The stick booted fine and the OS was running ok.

2. I created a persistence-enabled 1.2GB (max value by pulling the
slider all the way up). The stick fails to boot by giving the message:
'Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow'

I have re-verified the checksums of the iso that I was trying to use and
they are fine. I re-tried this particular step thrice and I got the logs
during that third attempt.

Using the instructions at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingCasper , I
got the following in casper.log:

--
Begin: Running /scripts/casper-premount ...
