Re: [Bug 1817234] Re: Bug in "python3-ebooklib" that was fixed upstream years ago but package is outdated

2019-05-13 Thread Raúl Soriano
With all due respect, this kind of response is ridiculous. Don't take
this personally, I'm talking about the situation, not your reply.

I'm using Ubuntu, not Debian, so I report a problem in Ubuntu, not in
Debian, and whatever steps Ubuntu need to take to resolve the problem
should be handled by Ubuntu itself. Asking an user to go somewhere
else for help with a problem in Ubuntu gives a VERY VERY BAD
IMPRESSION.

If I where an average user who took the time to learn how and where
to report a problem, just to be told "go somewhere else, figure out
how they do things, register in their web so you can report and leave
us alone", I'd just stop using Ubuntu all together.

If I used Debian, Arch, Fedora, SuSe or any other distribution, I
wouldn't be reporting a problem TO Ubuntu, but just so happens that
I'm an user of Ubuntu, and here is my report. I refuse to go somewhere
else.

Back on topic about the python3-ebooklib package, Ubuntu can choose
not to distribute an unmaintained package if that's the best option
they have, but distributing an OLD, OUTDATED and BUGGY package is
plain wrong.

While there are workaround for this specific bug, the package should be fixed.

This is a very very old bug, that was fixed upstream in 2016
(https://github.com/aerkalov/ebooklib/issues/92), but the packaged
release is even older.

The current package in ubuntu/debian is for release 0.15 from back in
2014, and has many bugs that have been fixed upstream.

There have been new releases in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Can we get an update for this?

[Bug 1747824] Re: fp ide crashes on launch with runtime error 106 at $00000000004D7E1D

2018-04-23 Thread Raúl Soriano
In reply to Paul, here is the output you asked for:

~ ls -al $(readlink -f $(which fp))
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5266448 abr 22 16:10 /usr/bin/fp-3.0.4

Guess you wanted to verify I wasn't hitting a "third party" binary or
something like that.

I've been combing through freepascal.org bug tracker and found that fp-
ide is somewhat sensitive regarding terminals.

In their forum I've found a recent question regarding problems with tmux
(no bug report though). The proposed workaround is to run fp ide inside
screen inside tmux until a better solution can be found (
https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php?topic=40299.0 ).

2018-04-23 Thread Raúl Soriano
I've just found the root cause for this is tmux. If fp ide is run on an
xfce terminal it doesn't crash, but under tmux on the same xfce terminal
it does.

I'll try to identify whether this is a "package problem" or an upstream
one.

[Bug 1576843] [NEW] README.Debian needs clarification

2016-04-29 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Part of the README.Debian says:

vim
---

Make sure the vim-nox package is installed, and insert the following lines in
your ~/.vimrc file:

python from powerline.vim import setup as powerline_setup
  python powerline_setup()
  python del powerline_setup

But since vim is now using python3 (at least in Xenial), those lines
don't work, generating error E319.

I've wasted an entire afternoon trying to figure out how to make it
work, until in a wild guess I replaced "python" with "python3" and it
worked.

I couldn't find any place with references to python3 in vimrc, so it was
a lucky guess, and it should be documented.

While this works as a workaround, it isn't a solution, since any new
installation would face the same problem.

A proper solution is to fix the current package or update it to a newer
calibre version (like backporting the package from 15.10), but apparently
nobody cares about bugs in non-lts Ubuntu releases.

[Bug 1449608] [NEW] Cannot add new epubs to a library

2015-04-28 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

While trying to add a new epub to my collection an error window appears.
Clicking on show details button the following information is provided:

calibre, version 2.20.0
ERROR: No se pueden añadir libros: Fallo al añadir algunos libros, pulse en
«Mostrar detalles» para más información.

EOFError

Googling this, the same error was reported in archlinux
(https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/44134), but apparently was fixed in a
subsequent update.

There are new available releases for calibre, so maybe one of them has a
fix for this.

[Bug 683906] Re: transmission-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in realloc()

2011-03-17 Thread Raúl Soriano
Instead of building the 2.22 release, I ended using the one from
https://launchpad.net/~transmissionbt/+archive/ppa.

It's been running for 4 days in a row without crashing, while the 2.13
crashed in 2 days.

The 2.13 from maverick has been running more stable since a week ago or
so, maybe it's not transmission-daemon fault, but a library somewhere
that got updated/fixed. It's been running along the 2.22 (in different
systems) since the weekend.

So maybe it's fixed?

I've been testing 2.13 on Natty for a while in virtual machine, was
going to report it not crashing, and then it crashed 2 minutes ago.

Same thing, couldn't backtrace it.

I'll build the last release and try again.

Raúl, I appreciate the Valgrind log very much; however, it doesn't seem

how to proceed from here. Do you have any suggestions what I should to
 do trigger this error?

I've been trying to trigger it every now and then, but the crash never
happens when it's running with valgrind or gdb. That makes me suspect is
timing related, and being globally slower it isn't triggered, but I have
no idea what is it. I've tried everything i could think, except a newer
version.

Also, if you try testing on a prerelease of 11.04, does Transmission
2.1x still crash with this error for you?

I was going to test that on a virtual machine, but had no time since my
last message. If nothing happens again, I may be able to do it this
weekend. Given enough time, I'll test 2.22 and/or cvs too.

[Bug 683906] Re: transmission-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in realloc()

2011-01-19 Thread Raúl Soriano
After five days and a half running with valgrind without a problem, I
stopped it, rebooted the system and started it normally. Then, on first
access it failed again. In the attached screenshot it's visible that the
web interface is loaded without the transfer list (there should be at
least 3 torrent's running), the browser is redirected to
http://server/transmission/web/#cancel; and then shows a Connection
failed message.

Both Dismiss and Details buttons aren't usefull, when one of them is
pressed the browser pops a dialog saying it couldn't connect to the
server.

Trying to reload the page doesn't help, since the daemon isn't running
any more.

Is there anything else I can try?

[Bug 683906] Re: transmission-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in realloc()

2011-01-16 Thread Raúl Soriano
I'ts been running with valgrind for a day and a half without crashing
(still running).

While this test runs, I'm testing another pc without, with same
distribution, version, configuration and torrents, and it crashed 2
times. Both crashes happened while trying to connect to the web
interface from a remote host. In the first one, the browser showed
transmission web interface, without the torrents list, and a popup
saying the server stopped responding. For the second one, I checked that
transmission was running, then tried to connect and the browser couldn't
get a response from the server, checked again and transmission had
crashed.

I've tried connecting and reconnecting a lot to the one running with
valgrind without problems.

The pc where I run it usually, and where valgrind is used, isn't very
fast, and with valgrind it's over 80% cpu usage most of the time and
becomes very slow sometimes, so I've been thinking it can be related to
a timer somewhere (perhaps in the remote management) that being so slow
doesn't trigger the crash. May this be possible?

I'll try to get a valgrind log, but it may take some time (I have
nothing to download right now).

Since you ask for suggestions, I think transmission-daemon should log
it's activities, like most services do.

Whenever I have a problem with a service, my first step to fix it is to
look at /var/log/servicename.log, but in this case there is nothing to
see. Does it fail on completion? Is it on data verification? Or maybe it
fails while I try to log on (web)? If there were a log, at least we
could see what was the last thing that worked before the fail. Maybe
even log some info about the fail.

[Bug 235069] Re: Rhythmbox won't report current song

2008-09-18 Thread Raúl Soriano
The new rhythmbox on intrepid has now an option (rhythmbox-client
--print-playing-format %st) to show the stream title since my patch was
acepted upstream (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=541725).

The problems with amsn music plugin and rhythmbox musictracker aren't
rhythmbox bugs, but a bad support on the plugin side.

[Bug 243336] [NEW] Nautilus takes way too much ram opening a large image directory and doesn't give it back until killed

2008-06-26 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

64bit Hardy with latest updates.

Nautilus 1:2.22.3-0ubuntu2

Once opened a directory with a big amount of images (~ 17800), nautilus
uses too much ram as shown in the line extracted from top:

20978 gollos20 0 1564m 1.2g 20m S0 58.8 9:44.42 nautilus

That's way too much ram given that the ~/.thumbnails directory is much
smaller (~ 370M) unless nautilus is storing in ram an uncompressed copy
of each thumbnail.

Closing ALL nautilus windows doesn't free it back, since nautilus
remains running to draw the desktop, so all that ram is wasted.

Nautilus must use less ram (storing compressed copies instead of uncompressed
ones) or, at least, free the cache once all windows are closed.

 * reproduce it
  * check if it happens with the latest version
  * understand where it actually crashes

You can help with the first point by attaching an example file to this
bug report. Please note that a proper attachment is preferred over a
link to some remote site. Remote side that are password protected or
otherwise restriced (like services like rapidshare.com and similar) are
 absolutely not acceptable.

For the 2nd point, the MOTUMedia team provide updated packages for xine-
lib and ffmpeg in their PPA for past ubuntu releases. See
 http://launchpad.net/~motumedia/+archivehttp://launchpad.net/%7Emotumedia/+archivefor
  instructions how to enable
that archive. Please add this repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list,
update your system and make sure, that you have both packages 'ffmpeg-
dbg' and 'libxine1-dbg' installed (use 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install libxine1-dbg ffmpeg-dbg'). This way, you can
produce meaningful backtraces that help us with point 3. You can read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace about how to create proper backtraces
that help developers identifying the exact location of the crash.

After more than a year, I'm no longer using feisty, and I don't have the
files who caused the crash. Even when i had them, the content of those
videos had copyright, so I couldn't share them. Sorry.

I think that, given the time passed since the bug report, you may want to
close it until somebody can reproduce it.

[Bug 219671] Re: amuled stop responding without crash

2008-04-22 Thread Raúl Soriano
In my previous message I talked about -d parameter and that was a
mistake, it's -f parameter. Sorry.

I don't usually use amuleweb, but i've tried activating it and can't get
it working. I'll describe the checks i've done until now:

It seems to be running, but I can't connect. I check whether it's
launched with amuled just after restarting it.

$ ps afx | grep amule
27190 pts/0S+ 0:00 | \_ grep amule
27178 ?Ssl0:01 /usr/bin/amuled -f
27183 ?S 0:00 \_ amuleweb
--amule-config-file=/home/gollos/.aMule/amule.conf

When I open the web with a browser (http://ip:4711) it can't connect.
After a while checking firewall, amule options, network and everything,
I try again to recheck that it's still running and:

$ ps afx | grep amule
27261 pts/0S+ 0:00 | \_ grep amule
27178 ?Ssl0:13 /usr/bin/amuled -f

amuleweb has disappeared! So I try to launch it manually. If I launch it
with the command shown by the first ps, it shows nothing:

$ amuleweb --amule-config-file=/home/gollos/.aMule/amule.conf
(the cursor is here, blinking)

And, as before, I can't connect. So I stop it with control+c and try to
launch it without parameters and now it shows:

$ amuleweb
Esto es amuleweb SVN Mon Feb 18 07:02:15 CET 2008

Creando cliente...
¡Hecho! Conexión establecida con aMuleSVN

| Servidor web aMule |

Usa 'Help' para la lista de comandos

Servidor web: Iniciado

WSThread: Thread started
aMuleweb$ WSThread: created socket listening on :4711
(the cursor is here, blinking)

Now I can connect, but can't log in with the password I had configured
in amule preferences, and under the login form is this text: No
password specified, login will not be allowed.

During all this test, amulegui has worked without changing it's
behavior. Don't know what to do next.

[Bug 219671] [NEW] amuled stop responding without crash

2008-04-19 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amule

Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

amule-daemon: 2.2.0~svn20080218-0ubuntu3

Once a download is completed, amule-daemon stops responding without
crashing. A running and connected amulegui stops working, new amulegui
can't connect.

The only way to recover the daemon is killing it.

Running amule-daemon inside gdb to try and get a backtrace, makes it to
not fail on every download, but on the long run it happens too.

Since it doesn't crash, I don't know whether this backtrace is usefull,
but once it has stoped working i've hit control+c on the gdb console,
and done as said in wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace

[Bug 188184] [NEW] Gnome-panel drawer not working properly while metacity compositor is active

2008-02-01 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Hardy Heron fully updated.
Metacity 2.21.5-0ubuntu1

Problem: when compositor enabled, panel drawers doesn't open for a
second time.

Steps to reproduce it:

- Add a drawer to the gnome panel and some launchers inside.
- Activate metacity compositor or start a new session with it enabled.
- Open the drawer and click one of the launchers or close the drawer.
- Try to re open the drawer and it won't show (don't know whether it doesn't
open or just doesn't show).

I think this is a metacity compositor bug because the drawer works
without compositor and with others compositing window managers.

[Bug 183663] Re: kvm installation and uninstallation failure

2008-01-28 Thread Raúl Soriano
It's perfectly reasonable for kvm not not get properly configured (and
thus be marked as installed) if you don't have the proper hardware
extensions. You will not be able to use kvm.

For me, the only thing I can do is uninstall, and with the new release
it works now, thanks for fixing that.

I'm going to make a suggestion for you to consider and see whether it is
possible or desirable:

The problem is that some of us HAVE support for svm extensions on out
systems, but bios disables it so support is there but can't be used.

When the installation script tries to load the modules, it fails and
configurations fails, leaving an unconfigured package without a hint of
what the problem is.

The installation script may be modified so it checks for virtualization support
and do:
  1.-If there is no support (egrep ‘^flags.*(vmx|svm)’ /proc/cpuinfo), a
message tell the user that the package can't work on that machine and stops the
installation without trying to load the module.
2.-If there is support, tries to load the module and if it fails, show a
message telling the user to check the bios for options to enable virtualization.

Not all bioses have that option, and in some cases a bios upgrade is
needed, but I think that this can help some users

[Bug 124941] Re: [gutsy] System crash on kvm-amd load

2007-10-18 Thread Raúl Soriano
It seems that my problem is bios related. Newer kvm releases tell that
svm instructions are disabled by bios and doesn't crash.

I've talked with the mainboard maker support and they say that it's on
purpose due to some possible instabilities when svm is enabled and
that they are working with AMD engineers to solve it.

This mean that my bug isn't a bug in new releases (because it show a
message instead of crashing) so this may be closed.

Vatazhka problem must be something different.

Yea, I've tried doing all that and I can't get any info. I'm sure the

releases. Tthis problem started for me with a kernel upgrade in

I've tested feisty and gutsy packages, and compiled my own packages from

[Bug 124941] [gutsy] System crash on kvm-amd load

2007-07-09 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Every time I try to load the kvm-amd module, my system crash with a
kernel panic. I can load kvm without trouble, but no kvm-amd.

There is nothing logged in /var/log/*

I tried to log the crash, but gdb modprobe doesn't get anything and
strace -Ff -tt modprobe kvm-amd 21 | tee strace-kvm-amd.log doesn't
get written to disk (I suppose the kernel crashes before having time to
write it to disk).

I've read that kvm modules can't coexist with modules from vmware,
virtualbox or parallel, so I uninstalled vmware-player and same thing
happens.

If there is another way of loging kernel crashes (may be kexec?), tell
my and I try.

Re: [Bug 121358] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-06-26 Thread Raúl Soriano
2007/6/26, Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

how did you misconfigure alsa? a way to trigger the bug could make
easier working on it. Could you get a backtrace with libglib2.0-0-dbg
 installed?

Well It's hard to tell. The misconfiguration happened during the upgrade
from feisty to gutsy.
I was trying thing to make rhythmbox work but nothing helped. I deleted
.asoundconf and .asoundrc.asoundconf from my home and nothing changed. Then
user asoundconf-gtk to select the default sound card (because I have 2 of
them plus a tv card) and then rhythmbox started working.

I tried to delete .asoundconf and .asoundrc.asoundconf but rhythmbox doesn't
crash now. Then I tried to select a nonexistent card (asoundconf
set-default-card nonexistent) and it crash again.

[Bug 121358] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-06-25 Thread Raúl Soriano
I've found that this happens only if rhythmbox can't reach the audio
hardware. I had an ALSA misconfiguration and once solved rhythmbox
doesn't crash. Anyway this is a bug, if rhythmbox can't use the hardware
it must say that instead of crash.

[Bug 121358] rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-06-20 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a collection generated with rhythmbox in feisty and it works properly.
I've upgraded to gutsy and now when I try to play a file, rhythmbox puts an red
icon near the file instead of playing it. When I double click the icon, a
windows apears saying:

Internal GStreamer error: state change failed. Please file a bug at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GStreamer.

That window has a close button only.

I tried to play some other files and then rhythmbox crashed.

Reopened rhythmbox and the same thing happens but rhythmbox doesn't
crash while trying to play files.

2007-06-17 Thread Raúl Soriano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

I was opening and closing multiple files for brightness/contrast editing
and gimp went crazy. Closing the fourth or fifth file gimp window
disapeared, but gimp proccess continued working for a wile. Tried to
open another file (rightclick on nautilus and open with gimp) and then
gimp crashed.
