[Bug 1051175] [NEW] thunderbird increases memory from startup until whole system freezes because of lack of memory

2012-09-15 Thread RdeWit
Public bug reported:

Since 2 days (it started before upgrade to 12.10), out of the blue, thunderbird
started consuming all available memory from startup. It happened on 2 machines
independently (with the same email accounts).
It may be a race condition caused by some email.

I hoped to get some debugging info by running 'ubuntu-bug pid-of-
running-thunderbird'. Not sure if the information collected is
sufficient.

[Bug 1051175] Re: thunderbird increases memory from startup until whole system freezes because of lack of memory

2012-09-15 Thread RdeWit
Closing this bug: somehow the global-messages-db.sqlite got confused,
most likely because of a spam email that contained exactly 5000(!)
recipients. Removing the global-messages-db.sqlite and global-messages-
db.sqlite-journal files solved the problem.

[Bug 871089] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.0.0/fs/ecryptfs/crypto.c:348!

2011-10-13 Thread RdeWit
I would have no way of (reliably) reproducing this bug nor am inclined to try
hard to reproduce it if this could cause data corruption in my home directory!
It has not occurred again (not having used the upstream kernels, just the ones
that came with the oneiric updates).
Sorry that I can be of no more help here.

of the problems that I experienced were caused by faulty memory modules.

2010-03-25 Thread RdeWit
Please ignore that last comment. I just had a resume failure and could
not attach the output of apport-collect to this bug. Please note that I
submitted a bug report with Karmic a while ago: #515268

Apport-Collect Error I just got:

[Bug 362614] Re: [HP Pavilion 061 RC621AA-ABG s7545a] hibernate/resume failure

2010-03-24 Thread RdeWit
Hi Jeremy,

I can confirm that with the latest standard kernel* I have no issues with
hibernating/resuming any more. This bug can be closed.
Do you still appreciate testing with the latest kernel? If so, is the daily
snapshot the one you're after?

[Bug 501551] Re: Xorg assert failure: *** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/X: double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x092447a8 ***

2010-03-03 Thread RdeWit
Hi Pauli,

When would I start this valgrind session? Just any time, just to collect
information, immediately after the crash happens (logged in from another
machine), after reboot (when back in X) or in some other way?

Please note that when my screen is blank, there is no monitor input (ie,
no console visible). Sometimes a CTRL-ALT-DEL allows me to reboot,
sometimes I need to use the infamous REISUB method.

[Bug 501551] Re: Xorg assert failure: *** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/X: double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x092447a8 ***

2010-03-02 Thread RdeWit
An extra comment: the many crashes that I mentioned in my initial report
have gone away after I replaced my memory modules.

This problem however has not ceased to exist and every once or twice a
week I get no monitor input (at all) on startup of X (boot menu shows up
fine) and need to reboot the computer.

After rebooting my apport tells me that Xorg had crashed, which is this
bug.

[Bug 508273] Re: [Acer Aspire 4810T] late resume failure

2010-01-15 Thread RdeWit
Extra info: the annotation says: Annotation: This occured during a
previous hibernate and prevented it from resuming properly. The resume
processing hung very near the end and will have appeared to have
completed normally.

Unfortunately resuming did not look at all as if it completed normally!
The screen stayed black with a blinking cursor in the top left and
either the fan or the disc drive kept on spinning (did not pay too much
attention to which one it was).

[Bug 350100] Re: thunderbird-bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-12-25 Thread RdeWit
Hi Micah,

Having all the latest updates (Karmic, including proposed) I get random
crashes of either X or applications like Firefox and Thunderbid. I
strongly believe it's not a Thunderbird issue but related to my video
card, X settings or maybe some memory corruption.

Maybe it's good to close this bug since I'm running Karmic now. If/when
I get a similar crash, I'll use apport for uploading the relevant
information to a new bug report. It that OK with you?

Thanks, Rdewit

[Bug 345627] Re: Crackling / scratching noise using Pulseaudio

2009-07-17 Thread RdeWit
Hi, I gave up on the current kernel with PulseAudio. I installed Linux
Kernel 2.6.30 and reverted back to Alsa and that seems to work for me.
This link explains how to install the new kernel:
http://www.ramoonus.nl/2009/06/10/linux-kernel-2-6-30-installation-
guide-for-ubuntu-and-debian-linux/.

I hope this helps someone.

[Bug 378606] [NEW] Jaunty fast then slow out of sync video with stuttering sound

2009-05-20 Thread RdeWit
Public bug reported:

Summary and description blatantly copied (and slightly modified) from
the following discussion:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1146319

===
The symptoms: this happens in mplayer and totem-xine and totem-gstreamer.

1) The video plays slowly with the sound out-of-sync with the picture
2) The video then plays REALLY fast to catch up with the sound
3) The sound stutters for a couple of seconds and then everything is in sync
again for a few minutes
4) repeat from 1

This happens on most videos.
===

I have this problem too after upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty and
thought that it might have to do with other issues I have with my ATI
RC410 [Radeon Xpress 200M]. It seems that the problem is caused by
something else, possibly by pulseaudio (as suggested by someone in the
mentioned discussion).

[Bug 308774] Re: fast-user-switch-applet pidgin status icons mixed up

2009-01-24 Thread RdeWit
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 294547 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294547

Hi, I can live with the reason Ted Gould gave for closing this bug, but it is
*not* a duplicate of 294547!
This bug is about the icons not matching the name. That is different from
Pidgin not following the icon naming spec.

[Bug 307459] Re: Saving certain PDF forms corrupts them if they've been filled out.

2009-01-24 Thread RdeWit
I experience exactly what is described here. Are other example PDFs
needed to help solve the issue? Is there a known workaround for now?
