[Bug 798811] [NEW] Tomboy synchronization needs versioning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tomboy There's too many times in which Tomboy's synchronization doesn't recognize that an updated local note is the same note as the one with the same name on the remote note, and asks to rename or overwrite the local one. Some kind of versioning with diffs should alleviate this issue. [Bug 198292] Re: Hardy upgrade - motion halts upgrade
Yeah, stepan, your fix would work just fine, but I'd much rather motion start as its own user. From a security standpoint, it just makes sense. I customized the init script on my install for motion, and it more or less does what mouz's patches do, so it wouldn't be appropriate for SRU. In other words, motion can still start as its own user, but it has its own /var/run/motion directory to write to for its pid file so that it doesn't have to run as root (a little like how Tor is setup). The other thing that I did (which is different from mouz's patch) was that I created a separate config file for motion as a startup daemon in /etc/motion/motiond.conf. This way, individual users can still run motion normally (i.e. not as a daemon), and thus allaying any unintended side effects for that use case. I think that these kind of fixes are the most appropriate for the long term. -- Hardy upgrade - motion halts upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198292 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I ran into this problem, but it didn't crash anything--it just prevented the completion of the installation of the motion package. Actually, I kinda take that back. dpkg didn't seem to crash, but it got bogged down in errors that it refused to install anything else, and I had to remove the motion package with aptitude, and had to reboot my machine because motion was still trying to record pictures (it was still running, and refused to die). [Bug 190173] Re: [hardy, intel 965] compiz launches multiple processess
I don't think that is a very good solution. I think this bug needs to be re-opened. I've encountered it myself (on one of the new M1330 laptops with Intel GM965/X3100), but it shouldn't take a command line to resolve the issue. Also, the $(HOME)/.config/compiz is somewhat necessary to set the SKIP_CHECKS option. Finally, the Cannot fork error above is a symptom of the problem itself (Compiz forks so much that it eats up all the available processes, and eventually stops itself from being able to fork). Please reopen this bug because the above solution isn't really a solution. -- [hardy, intel 965] compiz launches multiple processess https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190173 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications
I'm having this problem too on my own machine--a new Dell XPS M1330 (they just started selling them with Ubuntu on them) that has the X3100/GM965. It's very similar to a problem I've had on another machine of mine that has an NVidia card in it, and Debian. What happens on that machine is that whenever Xorg gets upgraded, the NVidia supplied GLX drivers get replaced, and when I start X back up, I can't run any OpenGL applications without crashing X. I eventually figured out the problem when I ran glxinfo one time, and noticed that DRI was not working. I bring that up because on my new laptop, whenever I log into GNOME, DRI is not working, and that's immediately apparent whenever I run glxinfo. Also, glxgears immediately crashes X. Compiz works, somewhat, but is very buggy. However, when I log into failsafe-terminal, DRI is working, and I can run glxgears just fine. I've attached the output of glxinfo from both within GNOME and in failsafe-terminal. I would like to see if anyone else is seeing the same symptoms with glxinfo in both of those conditions. ** Attachment added: Output of glxinfo in GNOME and failsafe-terminal http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12331013/glxinfo.output -- intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okay, I just did some checking around, and got an idea from a href=http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-559350.html;here/a, but it doesn't exactly solve our problem here. I just realized that DRI is only on display 0.0 from that thread, and doing 'DISPLAY=:0 glxgears' allows it to run just fine without anything crashing, and 'DISPLAY=:0.0 glxinfo' actually shows DRI as running. I've attached the output for that.
