approximately, what's causing it, or what I might be doing to possibly
cause it. It just randomly crashes, and dumps me back to the login

[Bug 1393074] [NEW] Amarok freezes on start up

2014-11-15 Thread Rene Horn
Public bug reported:

Amarok completely freezes on me on start up. I had deleted all my
settings for Amarok in ~/.kde/share/config/ and the directory

[Bug 1061814] Re: Liferea WAL file grows without limit

2012-11-11 Thread Rene Horn
I have a sort-of-kind-of work-around that's not really a good work
around.

Basically, I've just set up a cron job to kill Liferea and restart it
everyday around midnight.

[Bug 1073814] [NEW] Ubuntu One Music needs download verification

2012-11-01 Thread Rene Horn
Public bug reported:

I was playing some music I downloaded from Ubuntu One Music, and I
realized that some of them didn't complete their download despite what
the Ubuntu One Music website said, so I deleted them, and had it re-
download them, but I have no idea if any of my other music has completed
their download or if they are corrupt in some manner.

It would be really helpful if some kind of error checking (e.g. MD5) was
done to see if the files downloaded correctly and completely or not, and
to try again if they didn't.

[Bug 884347] [NEW] Window borders keep on disappearing when trying to open the window menu

2011-10-31 Thread Rene Horn

window menu with either clicking on the window menu circle on the left
or with Alt+Space.

[Bug 798811] [NEW] Tomboy synchronization needs versioning

2011-06-17 Thread Rene Horn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

There's too many times in which Tomboy's synchronization doesn't
recognize that an updated local note is the same note as the one with
the same name on the remote note, and asks to rename or overwrite the
local one. Some kind of versioning with diffs should alleviate this
issue.

At the very least, there needs to be an option to overwrite the remote
version instead of the local version if the remote version is the one
that is out of date.

[Bug 780564] [NEW] Autocomplete no longer works with Python 2.7

2011-05-10 Thread Rene Horn
Public bug reported:

Autocomplete, which is one of the main features I think for Rope, does
not work in its current version with Python 2.7.

When I try to use the autocomplete with emacs (I have python-ropemacs
0.6c2-4 installed as well), I get the following error:

I'm sure that this isn't the only thing that's been affected by the
upgrade to 2.7, and it seems upstream is aware of the problems. There's
a thread about the problems here: http://groups.google.com/group/rope-
dev/browse_thread/thread/bdf845f20507f60a/50b6863efde90795?#50b6863efde90795.

[Bug 180866] Re: [XPS M1330] Eject Button Doesn't Work

I know this bug can be resolved because when I first got my laptop--
preloaded with Ubuntu 8.04 by Dell--this button worked just fine. The
CD would unmounted, and then ejected.

Maybe someone over at Dell knows how to solve this problem?

[Bug 180866] Re: [XPS M1330] Eject Button Doesn't Work

2009-02-22 Thread Rene Horn
This bug needs to be opened back up because while changing the above
sysctl setting does work, it doesn't bother to unmount the disc before
it ejects it, so the disc needs to be reinserted to unmount it properly.

When I first got my laptop--preloaded with Ubuntu (8.04 at the
time)--the eject button would do exactly as would be expected. That is
to say that it would unmount the disc, and then eject it. It doesn't do
that any more.

[Bug 198292] Re: Hardy upgrade - motion halts upgrade

2008-06-28 Thread Rene Horn
Yeah, stepan, your fix would work just fine, but I'd much rather motion
start as its own user. From a security standpoint, it just makes sense.

I customized the init script on my install for motion, and it more or
less does what mouz's patches do, so it wouldn't be appropriate for SRU.
In other words, motion can still start as its own user, but it has its
own /var/run/motion directory to write to for its pid file so that it
doesn't have to run as root (a little like how Tor is setup).

The other thing that I did (which is different from mouz's patch) was
that I created a separate config file for motion as a startup daemon in
/etc/motion/motiond.conf. This way, individual users can still run
motion normally (i.e. not as a daemon), and thus allaying any unintended
side effects for that use case.

I think that these kind of fixes are the most appropriate for the long
term.

Yes, I can confirm that this has to do with Xgl and not with fglrx. I
also have an Intel GMA 965, and Xrandr works just fine when I disable

Either this bug needs to be changed in its heading or a new one needs to
be filed against Xgl.

[Bug 190752] Re: package motion 3.2.9-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

2008-04-26 Thread Rene Horn
I ran into this problem, but it didn't crash anything--it just prevented
the completion of the installation of the motion package.

I figured out what the problem was when I checked the files that it was
creating in /tmp/motion, and realized that it had been taking pictures
the entire time--which I have no plans of showing to anyone! I look
like a zombie in them, but that's beside the point.

Anyway, yes, motion seems to start recording stuff from the camera when
it gets installed, and will only stop once Ctrl+C is pushed.

[Bug 190752] Re: package motion 3.2.9-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

2008-04-26 Thread Rene Horn
Actually, I kinda take that back. dpkg didn't seem to crash, but it got
bogged down in errors that it refused to install anything else, and I
had to remove the motion package with aptitude, and had to reboot my
machine because motion was still trying to record pictures (it was still
running, and refused to die).

Anyway, this is a critical show-stopping bug for this package, so it
should be pretty high priority.

[Bug 190173] Re: [hardy, intel 965] compiz launches multiple processess

2008-04-14 Thread Rene Horn
I don't think that is a very good solution. I think this bug needs to
be re-opened. I've encountered it myself (on one of the new M1330
laptops with Intel GM965/X3100), but it shouldn't take a command line to
resolve the issue.

Also, the $(HOME)/.config/compiz is somewhat necessary to set the
SKIP_CHECKS option.

Finally, the Cannot fork error above is a symptom of the problem
itself (Compiz forks so much that it eats up all the available
processes, and eventually stops itself from being able to fork).

Please reopen this bug because the above solution isn't really a
solution.

[Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications

2008-02-29 Thread Rene Horn
I'm having this problem too on my own machine--a new Dell XPS M1330
(they just started selling them with Ubuntu on them) that has the
X3100/GM965.

It's very similar to a problem I've had on another machine of mine that
has an NVidia card in it, and Debian. What happens on that machine is
that whenever Xorg gets upgraded, the NVidia supplied GLX drivers get
replaced, and when I start X back up, I can't run any OpenGL
applications without crashing X. I eventually figured out the problem
when I ran glxinfo one time, and noticed that DRI was not working.

I bring that up because on my new laptop, whenever I log into GNOME, DRI
is not working, and that's immediately apparent whenever I run glxinfo.
Also, glxgears immediately crashes X. Compiz works, somewhat, but is
very buggy.

However, when I log into failsafe-terminal, DRI is working, and I can
run glxgears just fine.

I've attached the output of glxinfo from both within GNOME and in
failsafe-terminal.

I would like to see if anyone else is seeing the same symptoms with
glxinfo in both of those conditions.

[Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications

2008-02-29 Thread Rene Horn
Also, just to note, glxgears will create an unmanaged window, and I have
no idea why this is.

[Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications

2008-02-29 Thread Rene Horn
Okay, I just did some checking around, and got an idea from a
href=http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-559350.html;here/a,
but it doesn't exactly solve our problem here.

I just realized that DRI is only on display 0.0 from that thread, and
doing 'DISPLAY=:0 glxgears' allows it to run just fine without anything
crashing, and 'DISPLAY=:0.0 glxinfo' actually shows DRI as running.
I've attached the output for that.

Hopefully this will lead us to a solution!

** Attachment added: Output of 'DISPLAY=:0 glxinfo'

[Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications

2008-02-29 Thread Rene Horn
Yup, Rebecca was right. Sorry everyone! It was a completely different
bug related to XGL, and not this.

Anyway, I disabled XGL, and that got DRI working again. glxgears ran
fine too. Then I tried running Blender, and...

Rendering does not work. It just crashes.

NOW I've run into this bug.

So, sorry again!
