Public bug reported: It doesn' t seem possible at all to install Ubuntu on this machine, which is too bad because I thoroughly destroyed the Windows install it came with :-( It may be related to the RPMB partition issues (mmcblk0rpmb r/w command timeouts). The kernel people will have loads of fun. Since this laptop is effectively bricked unless I boot it off a live stick, I am open to try new images. I'll give today's Vivid a spin in about 12 hours to see how far I can go. If it helps, it's the ES1-111M-C40S, Celeron N2840. [Bug 995091] [NEW] reverse scrolling should be tied to the type of the pointing device in use
Public bug reported: There has been some comments on Lion-like reversed scrolling on Ubuntu. Yesterday I noticed, however, that it's horribly counter-intuitive when used with a mouse and scroll wheel. At least my brain is wired to see scroll-wheel as manipulating the viewport and the trackpad as dragging the document being viewed. Therefore I'd suggest that the setting should be configured according to the type of the pointing device in use and that the default should be traditional scroll for mice with scroll-wheels and reversed for both mice with touch interfaces (such as Apple's Magic Mouse) and touchpads. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: interaction natural-scrolling reverse-scrolling scrolling -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995091 Title: reverse scrolling should be tied to the type of the pointing device in use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 504698] [NEW] cubicgrid screensaver locks up the machine after putting screen in power-save mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xscreensaver-gl-extra The screensaver has been locking up the machine (as in not exiting when detecting mouse or keyboard activity) some time (30 minutes consistently replicate the problem here, ymmv) after powering down the screen. I have not tested other screensavers in the same package - this is the next step now that I have pinpointed the weirdness. The setup is an Acer Aspire One 150 netbook (Atom, Intel GMA 945) with an external IBM A70 monitor in a dual-headed configuration. Compiz is off due to bug #486056 and framebuffer is set to 2048x768 pixels due to bug #486072 (could be 1024 + 1280 pixels wide and 1024 pixels tall). The machine is not crashed and it is possible to ssh to it. I tried killing the two cubicgrid (there were two of them - this could be the problem) processes both under a single gnome-screensaver process, but they refused to die even with a "sudo kill -9". Gnome-screensaver died politely when ordered. Restarting the GDM or X does not cure the problem because the cubegrid processes continue as zombies. The only way I found to recover the machine was to "shutdown -r" it via a ssh session, but that is not surprising (and is a last resort). [Bug 486072] Re: IBM A70 monitor is not recognized by X.
One more thing: Upon turning on the DDC setting (which was off - my fault), the monitor is positively identified as an IBM A70 (Gnome display prefs says 'IBM 16"'). However, the resolutions available on the gnome display preferences applet are now limited to 1024x...@75hz (if the monitor is not identified, they are limited to 1152x...@60hz) while the monitor is capable of running at 1280x1...@60hz. Given proper guidance, I guess I can edit the config files myself and add the display modes by hand to the xorg tree. [Bug 486056] [NEW] Setting up dual-head of exactly 2048 pixels wide ends up with a black screen. Setting it up with more than 2048 pixels crashes X
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg External monitor positioned to the left of LCD. When width is less than 2048 pixels, everything works as expected. Crash with more than 2048 pixels could be from a Compiz problem (this GPU cannot handle more than 2048 pixels). Placing external monitor on top of (or, presumably under) the LCD works (not reaching the 2048 pixel limit). Unfortunately external monitor is a CRT and this arrangement won't fit on my desk.
