[Bug 1794494] Re: SRU tracking bug for KDE's Plasma 5.12.7 for bionic

2018-12-16 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
For the past couple of week I have had my desktop machine rolled back to
stock 18.04 with these updates, and all seems stable and the fixes do as
advertised.

I have also done some additional verification snapshotting a VM, rolling
that back and forward to test.

So as a Kubuntu developer, I am +1 on shipping these. I will of course
do my best to fix any unfound issues that such an update may cause on
wider consumption.

Tests with ubuntu8 still seem to fail on the smoketest.

configure: error: Package requirements (cppunit >= 1.14.0) were not met:

No package 'cppunit' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables CPPUNIT_CFLAGS
and CPPUNIT_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

[Bug 1808186] Re: Switch from MySQL to mariadb breaks akonadi

2018-12-12 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
Kubuntu still uses mysql by default for akoandi, and that is what the
akonadi-backend-mysql still has as its 1st choice dependency.

I note that on our current 18.04 daily iso and in a fairly stock
installed system, there has been no change or upgrade does or would
cause mariadb to replace mysql (just tried an apt-get dist-upgrade to
test. My best guess so far is that some other package (not a kubuntu
one) on your system changed dependency.

[Bug 1805685] Re: KDE front-end crashes on start up - ubiqity-dm and live session

2018-11-28 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
I believe we need to cherry pick this commit from KDE Neon's fork of
ubiquity.

https://packaging.neon.kde.org/forks/ubiquity.git/commit/?h=Neon/release=716f0ce69fca8d624240512ae5560268be8c32ab

Manually applying that change to kde_ui.py in the live session allows
ubiquity to start, and complete an install.

[Bug 1805685] [NEW] KDE front-end crashes on start up - ubiqity-dm and live session

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1804983] Re: Installing KDE Plasma Desktop Does not install any Qt5 Libs

2018-11-25 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
> While qdbus-qt5 is installed for example, it doesn't actually provide
libQt5DBus.so.5 which is nowhere on the system.

It is provided by the package libqt5dbus5 which IS installed.

~$ find / -name libQt5DBus.so.5
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5DBus.so.5
(with lots of expected permission denied errors for /proc/ etc)

$ dpkg -S libQt5DBus.so.5
libqt5dbus5:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5DBus.so.5.9.5
libqt5dbus5:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5DBus.so.5.9
libqt5dbus5:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5DBus.so.5

So all in all, I cannot find anything wrong in what gets installed.

This makes sense as all the dependencies in the dep chain are hard
Depends, not Recommends or Suggests, so they will get installed.

For now I will mark this as need-info.

confirmation by snapshoting the system so I could roll back to repeat
the same snap installs several times before and after update, to confirm
the fix and change in behaviour.

FTBFS in disco with rebuild against libtidy5deb1.

klinkstatus has been dropped from KDE applications releases and is not
ported to Qt, and hence no longer supported upstream.

$ reverse-depends src:klinkstatus
No reverse dependencies found
$ reverse-depends -b src:klinkstatus
No reverse dependencies found

I believe we can go ahead and remove this source now.

[Bug 1801290] Re: Latte dock is not showing on startup and an error mesaage is appearing

2018-11-07 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
0.8.75+git20181023.0746-0~ubuntu18.04~ppa1 is an experimental PPA
package from upstream git, not an official package.

For the record, if the issue is that latte cannot run with a stale qml
cache in ~/.cache/lattedock/qmlcache/ then this is an upstream KDE issue
that cannot be addressed in distro packaging. We can't and shouldn't act
on any file in a user home when doing a package upgrade via sudo/admin.
This should be fixed by KDE by having latte detect that it is being run
for the first time by a user after a version upgrade, and at that point
removing or modifying the cache with that user's privileges.

[Bug 1801103] Re: Kubuntu driver manager fails to install nvidia-prime on hybrid systems and that makes system unusable for unexperienced users

2018-11-01 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
The driver manager simply installs the nvidia driver/meta package for
the compatible selected driver. If prime should be a dependency of that,
then is really an issue with that package.

Seems .cmake are installed in both -dev packages in cosmic, with a
conflicts to prevent both being installed at the same time.

I would guess I was looking at the wrong build log or file list in a tab

With = success with no conflict as intended, where

[Bug 1800135] Re: libssh-dev is missing cmake find module

In Bionic version 0.8.0~20170825.94fa1e38-1ubuntu0.1 the cnake files are

In Cosmic version 0.8.1-1ubuntu0.1 they are installed in the libssh-

this issue, but appears it can happen in some case depending on how
things are processed.

[Impact]

 * Fix a corner case failure in Bionic -> Cosmic upgrades

[Test Case]

 * Manual switch sources.list to Cosmic, and try to upgrade breeze

[Regression Potential]

 * Restoration of breaks/replaces, so main risk is somehow finding
upgrade impossible (unlikely) or the general risk associated with
rebuilding a source to change package relationships. Both are minimal.

In Kubuntu with Virtualbox, I end up with the resized Cosmic partition
bootable and starts, but read is read only.

Plenty of KDE error not being able to write config files to the user
home.

Ext4 errors shown in attached screenshot.

2018-10-08 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
As LP: #1790613 pakagekit remains unfixed, this update crashes the
packagekit daemon mid way through installing updates on Kubuntu.
Discover/Updater uses packagekit.

This will leave large numbers of Kubuntu users with a broken upgrade,
requiring command line fixing with 'dpkg --configure -a' before any more
updates or packages (using either apt directly or packagekit) can
installed or seen to be available.

https://www.kdevelop.org/news/kdevelop-522-and-523-released

[Bug 1794494] [NEW] SRU tracking bug for KDE's Plasma 5.12.7 for bionic

2018-09-26 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

SRU tracking bug for KDE's Plasma 5.12.7 LTS for bionic

Official release announcement by the KDE community:
https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.12.7.php

Complete changelog (excludes translation updates):
https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.12.6-5.12.7-changelog.php

[Impact]

 * Without this update, general users who are not inclined or able to
add our backports/update ppa will not receive this bugfix release of the
Plasma 5.12 LTS series

 * Providing this bugfix release via the official update pocket in the
archive will ensure that the bugfixes here reach and benefit most of our
users. This is particularly important for a Kubuntu and Plasma LTS
release

[Test Case]

 * General tests:
  - Does plasma desktop start as normal with no apparent regressions over
5.12.6?
  - General workflow - testers should carry out their normal tasks, using the
plasma features they normally do, and test common subsystems such as audio,
settings changes, compositing, desktop affects, suspend etc.

 * Specific tests:
  - Check the changelog:
https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.12.6-5.12.7-changelog.php
  - Identify items with front/user facing changes capable of specific testing.
e.g. "Fix scrollbars in LibreOffice."
   - Test the 'fixed' functionality.

[Regression Potential]

 * These updates fix some obvious front facing issues, but also include some
underlying code fixes.
  - e.g. changes for compilation under Qt versions we do not ship yet, code
optimizations and fixes with less obvious explanation of impact in the
changelog,

 * Fixes for obvious and testable bugs and regressions can also
introduce unintended other regressions in either the feature/app being
fixed, or desktop components or subsystems that interact with it. So it
is important in these updates to consider:

 * General testing - does the desktop as a whole, and routine use of
such work as previously with no obvious regressions over the previous
release.

 * If there is say a fix for the audio applet to fix one issue, in
addition to fixing that issue, do the other common features of that app
still work as before, do the general audio settings still work?

[Other Info]

 * Packages not listed in the upstream changelog either have a 0-diff or just
translation updates, Those with translation updates have been included in this
SRU.
 * However, we deliberately versioned depends and build depends, so that if
accepting rebuilt small diff packages into the final release to the updates
pocket is considered too much of a regression potential, or too difficult to
validate, packages that have not introduced or require a dependency (internal
or external) on 5.12.7 version, should be able to be abandoned from
consideration and the SRU.

[Bug 1793876] Re: software-properties-qt/kde does not show in menus

2018-09-22 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
** Description changed:

  Cosmic and Bionic

Desktop file sets: NoDisplay=true resulting in no software sources menu
  entry in KDE menu.

This was probably just about ok when Plasma Discover was able to launch
- this via a menu item in it's options, but at least for Plasma 5.13 this
- is currently broken, and Disover's built-in source selection has further
- issues. Plus many users decide not to use Discover at all, and even
- uninstall it altogether.

Not withstanding all that, it is just desirable that someone can just
type "software" or "sources" in to the search box in Plasma's main menu
and find the menu item/launcher for this and use software-properties
without having to go a more complicated path.

Solution is simply removing the "NoDisplay=true" line from the .desktop
  file

[Bug 1793317] [NEW] Sync kxstitch 2.1.1-1.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2018-09-19 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Please sync kxstitch 2.1.1-1.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Fix the build with Qt 5.11.

Ubuntu delta is simply the Qt 5.11 patch applied now in 2.1.1-1.1
so it can be dropped.

Changelog entries since current cosmic version 2.1.1-1ubuntu1:

kxstitch (2.1.1-1.1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Add upstream fix for FTBFS with Qt 5.11. (Closes: #906776)

[Bug 1790934] Re: plasma-browser-integration fails to connect to native host

2018-09-12 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
The readme /usr/share/doc/plasma-browser-integration/README.Debian gives
an incorrect path to create a symlink to.

i.e:

/usr/share/plasma-browser-plugin/chrome/native-messaging-
hosts/org.kde.plasma.browser_integration.json

where that file is actually installed by the package to:

/usr/share/plasma-browser-integration/chrome/native-messaging-
hosts/org.kde.plasma.browser_integration.json

So a user following the readme trustingly would not end up with a
working setup for Chrome.

We can fix this in Ubuntu, but should also be done in debian as well.
