knuutsen : yes, the webcam works fine, unless I blacklist the module
uvcvideo.

Also, usb devices seem to get correctly mounted when they are plugged
_before_ booting. But mounting does not happen when I plug the usb
devices after boot.

[Bug 437834] Re: keyboard acts like fn key is locked on SONY VAIO NS12

2009-10-01 Thread Sébastien Valette
It was right after boot.

I did not have the jaunty kernel anymore, so I tried to install 2.6.30
from ubuntu mainline builds, but I screwed up my system (maybe because
of the grub/grub2 changes, I don't know)

I tried to fix it with a live-cd of karmic, and The bug is not
present on this live CD.

Proceeding to fresh reinstall right now.

I think you can close the bug, sorry for the noise.

[Bug 437834] [NEW] keyboard acts like fn key is locked on SONY VAIO NS12

2009-09-27 Thread Sébastien Valette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Hi,

this is a karmic regression since my keyboard was working fine with
ubuntu jaunty.

my laptop keyboard has a fn key on it, but it now seems that key is
considered as constantly pressed. There is a led indicator with a lock n
top of it, informing that the keyboard is in a locked state, similar
to caps lock

therefore, each time I press the letters uiopjklm the characters I'm
getting are the one that I would get when pressing the same letter, with
the fn key pressed. I get respectively 456*123-

so this part of the keyboard acts as a numeric pad, always.

[Bug 291761] [NEW] Udev does not finish driver loading

2008-10-31 Thread Sébastien Valette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I have a problem with my Sony Vaio ns12m. I think udev is kind of stuck
in a way that it does note complete drivers loading.

Even a long time after booting, using 'top', udev is usually not idle :
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

 2301 root 16 -4 2532 1024 400 R1 0.0 0:18.42 udevd

cpu consumption varies between 1 and 4%.

also, ps aux | grep udev returns two processes:
root 2301 1.6 0.0 2532 1024 ?Ss 20:34 0:07 /sbin/udevd
--daemon
root 26080 0.0 0.0 2532 976 ?S 20:42 0:00 /sbin/udevd
--daemon

there are two processed for udev.

when trying to restart the service, I get :
 * Loading additional hardware drivers...

with no [OK].

I also join my dmesg output, just in case...

[Bug 242163] Re: lsusb required to recognize sandisk media player as usb drive

2008-09-16 Thread Sébastien Valette
I have exactly the same problem on My Desktop computer.

when I plug my usb drive on the box, it is correctly detected.

I also have a usb hub built-in my LCD monitor, and is I plug the drive
in this plug, I have to type lsusb to trigger the detection.

output of lsusb when no drive is inserted:

Bus 008 Device 002: ID 0424:2504 Standard Microsystems Corp. USB 2.0 Hub
Bus 008 Device 001: ID :
Bus 007 Device 001: ID :

Bus 003 Device 001: ID :
Bus 001 Device 001: ID :
Bus 002 Device 001: ID :

when plugging the drive to the monitor plug, lsusb outputs the same
lines, and the drive appears shortly after.

then lsusb outputs:
Bus 008 Device 005: ID 13fe:1d00 Kingston Technology Company Inc. DataTraveler
2.0 1GB Flash Drive
Bus 008 Device 002: ID 0424:2504 Standard Microsystems Corp. USB 2.0 Hub

as a side note, the first line is wrong since my drive has 4GB capacity.

[Bug 223812] Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets

2008-09-07 Thread Sébastien Valette
I also confirm that gatopeich's version of the powernowd script works
for me also.

A small secondary effect is that the gnome cpufreq-applet does not allow
to change the governor. Instead of proposing powersave, performance and
so on..., it only shows performance which actually throttles the
frequency depending on cpu load. Anyway, thanks!

However, as many said, my laptop does not freeze when an usb mouse is plugged.
Moreover, I observe the very same problem with the fglrx driver, so the culprit
is most probably not the driver.
I experienced this problem since 2.6.24 (I ran Ubuntu 7.10 with kernels up to
2.6.23 without a hitch...)

[Bug 223812] Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with nforce2 cpufreq driver

2008-05-07 Thread Sébastien Valette
 /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies:
No such file or directory

I get the error message mentioned above, too. But powernowd works
regardless of this message. Could you please verify via the cpu speed
applet (don't know the correct english name) that it is actually NOT
working?

I checked it, and whenever I select Ondemand governor with the applet,
it does not work. Instead, the applet switches to performance mode.

One side note : with Gutsy, I had to install powernowd, which removes
cpufreq. This operation made ondemand governor work. I did the same with
Hardy. Am I correct?

[Bug 195051] Re: X freezes in drmCommandWrite() when Compiz is enabled on ATI Radeon Mobility 9600

2008-04-09 Thread Sébastien Valette
Hi,

I also a problem with my ati card : X hangs shortly after login, with our
without compiz. I solved it by adding
Option AGPMode 1
in my xorg.conf. However, it's not good, as it really slows graphics display. I
reported a bug here :

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14892

could anyone try this option to see if those bugs are related?

Hi!
Same concerns here. I just switched to hardy, and my system is very sluggish

my results from 'top':

Does the last number say that pulseaudio actually consumes more average

[Bug 68540] Re: [Edgy] issue with synaptic touchpad / xorg (regression, worked with Dapper)

2007-06-26 Thread Sébastien Valette
Wrong! This problem _IS_ present in Ubuntu and Kubuntu Feisty 7.04!!
Only work doing this virtual terminal switch! Its extremely annoying.
Could anybody point a definitive fix for this problem? I'm going crazy
with this. :'(

Weird, on my laptop the touchpad works well. It worked with an upgraded
system from edgy to feisty and after a clean install.

[Bug 80551] Re: openoffice fails to start if scim is the default GTK_IM_MODULE

2007-06-24 Thread Sébastien Valette
HI!

I experience the same error message when launching openoffice. Note that
the computer has no ati graphic card. My xorg driver is i810.

setting GTK_IM_MODULE to xim or scim-bridge does not fix the issue.

[Bug 118798] Re: X crashes when simultaneous rendering is triggered

2007-06-07 Thread Sébastien Valette
Sébastien, upstream is asking - Does this also happen with direct
rendering or accelerated indirect rendering?

Well, I found out that dri was not used. (bad initialization due to bad
settings in xorg.conf)

Now that DRI is enabled, the crash no longer occurs.

[Bug 118798] X crashes when simultaneous rendering is triggered

2007-06-05 Thread Sébastien Valette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have a reproducible X crash when using a simple python program. This
code uses the VTK library (package python-vtk). I will attach the code
in a reply

Procedure :
the programm creates 3 rendering windows. In the begining of the programm, all
the three windows are stacked on top of each other.
three steps are necessary :
- Move one of the windows besides the two others
- Pick one of the remaining stacked windows and move it so that it covers (at
least partially) the other two windows.
- Move again this same window to uncover parts of the other two windows. This
will trigger rendering of these windows, and X crashes...

the interesting part of DMESG is :

[ 148.253647] allocation failed: out of vmalloc space - use vmalloc=size to
increase size.
[ 148.253735] [drm:radeon_cp_init] *ERROR* radeon_cp_init called without lock
held
