[Bug 1603430] Re: Firefox dropdowns in wrong location

2020-02-05 Thread Sancho
Kind of confirmation.

* Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
* 4.15.0-76-generic #86-Ubuntu SMP
* Xubuntu flavor
* Xfce 4.12
* Firefox 72.0.2

In my case, both contextmenu and stored credential dropdown list are
miss-aligned (by approximately {-130px;-60px}) when the 'Title bar' display
option is unchecked (=title bar not rendered).
When re-enabling 'Title bar' display, all miss-alignment are gone.

[Bug 1814599] [NEW] os-prober truncates initrd line, results in kernel panic

2019-02-04 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

With multiple initrd paths (e.g. for intel microcode) os-prober and
linux-boot-prober report only the first part, the microcode. The
/boot/initrd.img is missing.
A resulting grub.cfg is therefore incomplete and can’t boot the OS.

This issue is known since 2016 but still lurking in 2019:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?47681
and
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=820838

It seems the problem is to substitute a caret by a blank?

[Bug 1641308] Re: Partitions display wrong in gnome -disks - ok in gparted

2019-01-30 Thread Sancho
Even if it would, I (n00b) don't know what you mean by "upstream".
In Debian they still have serious udisks probs with add-, change-, update
events (#571, 572, 573, 574, 581, 613), but I fail to see the context to simply
opening GParted.
And I don't gitMi$o, sorry.

[Bug 1641308] Re: Partitions display wrong in gnome -disks - ok in gparted

2019-01-25 Thread Sancho
Hi,
I'm on Cinnamon Mint 19.0 / 19.1 and have the same problem:
After starting GParted once, the partition info for GNOME Disks (extended
partition only) is permanently lost, even without any action in GParted.
The corruption shows the extended partition empty, but it is not.
Also see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gparted/issues/33
Please, it's time to move!

[Bug 1715476] [NEW] Incorrect icon on wireless connection

2017-09-06 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

On my new installation of Xenial, the Network Manager behaves strangely.

When I booted the first time with no known networks, I received a notification
about available networks.
I checked the list of available, created one configuration and connected.
So far, OK.
However, after restart, when the notebook boots and there is already a known
network, it connects, but instead of wireless signal strength the nm applet
displays icon for wired network.
Connection information shows it is a wifi network (Interface: 802.11 WiFi
(wlp63s0)), but reports very weird speed (6 Mb/s) - the real speed is ~200
Mb/s. Also, the list of available networks is empty.
Opening nmtui and listing connections in "Activate a connection" I can see
other networks.
But the applet shows no wireless networks and sometimes does not even show the
disconnect item in wireless (sometimes it does). I did not recognize a pattern
when it shows the menu item and when it does not.
When I run `sudo service network-manager restart`, everything fixes to the
proper state - I seen wlan icon, available networks, only connection
information keeps telling me I am connected with 6Mb/s.
The package version is 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.
The wireless adapter is Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac, using module
ath10k_pci.

[Bug 1276379] Re: fglrx-installer 2:13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1 fails with some legacy devices (Radeon HD 2000 3000 4000)

2014-03-14 Thread Sancho
Confirmed with:
# lspci | grep -i vga

RV730/M96 [Mobility Radeon HD 4650/5165]

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS
Release:12.04
Codename: precise
#uname -a

2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

To solve the problem, we have to:
- download manually the proposed driver by amd official website on
http://support.amd.com/fr-fr/download/
(in my case, the proposed driver is:
amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run)
- extract and run:
amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run --listpkg #
and find your_distrib_tag in the list
sudo amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run
--buildandinstallpkg your_ditrib_tag
- fix apt marks
# Because this is the higher driver version we can expect for a 4xxx series
sudo apt-mark hold fglrx
sudo apt-mark hold fglrx-amdcccle

The proposed driver by amd is 8.970 and it works like a charm.

[Bug 1264319] [NEW] bandwidthd package fails to reimport data on restart

2013-12-26 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

When restarting the daemon logging into plain text files instead of PGsql, the
source expects 7 columns, but there are eight of them within the files.
Modifying the source and rebuilding fixes the whole thing and the logs are
successfully reimported.
Here is the description for debian and patch to fix it.

[Bug 1227583] Re: Webcam USB bandwidth problem when connected using USB2.0 hub

2013-09-20 Thread Sancho
I am unable to install anything above 3.9.0-030900rc8-generic #201304211835
from mainline kernels - all higher releases freeze during initial stage and I
am unable to identify when.
Anyhow, the symptoms are the same with this kernel version.
I aditionaly disabled the usb audio driver (snd_usb_audio module) to ensure the
audio is not wasting the USB bandwidth, no change.

[Bug 1227583] [NEW] Webcam USB bandwidth problem when connected using USB2.0 hub

2013-09-19 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

I have a strange problem with webcams Creative Live! Cam Sync HD VF0770
(041e:4095).
I have two of them.
I would like to stream simultaneous streams with 1280x720 at 5fps.
When connected directly to laptop, I can do this, actually I can stream the
same resolution at 30fps.
But, when I plug both of them using USB hub (Gembird 7-port USB2.0 powered
hub), I can stream one camera.
But when starting the second one, the dmesg throws error

uvcvideo: Failed to submit URB 0 (-28).

and the mjpg-streamer shows

Unable to start capture: No space left on device

From other defects reported here I understand that this is a problem with USB
bandwidth allocation.
However, the USB for both cameras seems to be set at 480Mbit - this is the
output of lsusb -v -t

/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/5p, 480M
|__ Port 4: Dev 19, If 0, Class=hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M

|__ Port 3: Dev 20, If 3, Class=audio, Driver=, 480M
|__ Port 4: Dev 21, If 0, Class=hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M

I tried lowering the resolution for both cams to 320x240, minimum fps for the
camera is 5, so I can't go any lower than that.
Can anyone, please, point me out how can I investigate this problem further?

I tried lowering the resolution for both cams to 320x240, minimum fps for the
camera is 5, so I can't go any lower than that.
Can anyone, please, point me out how can I investigate this problem further?

[Bug 1197786] [NEW] flickrfs won't list sets and therefore stops working

2013-07-04 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

I installed flickrfs from both the repository and the CVS, the error is the
same.
I mount the filesystem (I already possess the correct authentication token)
using flickrfs ~/flickr
I can see the log trying to sync my sets, however, after quite a while (approx.
200 sets synced) I can see error messages like
07/04/13 13:58:03 INFO Syncing set /sets/20130629 u Sasi s Lolou

07/04/13 13:58:03 DEBUG Retry attempt 0 for func bound method
Flickrfs.__sync_set_in_background of __main__.Flickrfs object at 0x1120410

The process seems to hang or something.
When I try to list the directory, the log has no new input, but the command
ls -al ~/flickr
hangs.
The only way to fix it is to use sudo umount -f ~/flickr
I googled the error message and found some record stating it has already been
fixed, however, the bug persists for me both in the .deb version and within the
CVS.
Can anyone help?

Same problem here, rebooting doesn't even help most of the time.
Removing the google account and adding it again makes it work until the

[Bug 1152883] [NEW] gvfsd-sftp do not preserve file ownership on file modification operation

2013-03-09 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

Problem overview:
When using gvfs-sftp connection to modify some remote files, editing remotely
(with gedit, sublime, etc) then saving these files changes their user and group
ownership on server.

Problem configuration:
- one desktop with Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and Unity desktop
  (3.2.0-39-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28 00:28:53 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64

- one server directory with some files
  - directory permission : drwxrwx--- serverUser clientUser
  - files in this directory : -rw-rw serverUser clientUser
(aka perms user-owner group-owner)

Problem reproduction:
1- Use Nautilus (3.4.2) to Connect to server ... from your desktop pc to your
server pc using your ssh 'clientUser' credential (as mentioned above).
2- Browse to the above mentioned directory through Nautilus (from desktop
client in the remote served directory)

nautilus or command line like gedit ~/.gvfs/...)
4- Edit and save file
5- Check file permission on server directory
6- the file ownership has changed to something like -rw-rw clientUser
clientUser

Using vi (or vim) give an error at save time, but, the content is save
succefully, permission are set to something -rw--- clientUser

[Bug 934956] Re: [REGRESSION] Xorg Intel GMA 3600 driver does not work (Atom N2600 onboard graphics)

2012-03-22 Thread Fernando Sancho
linux-3.3 has GMA3600 support. It's experimental but it works. I have
built a linux-3.3 kernel on Oneiric and it finally works. It would be
nice to pull gma500_gfx driver from linux-3.3 to dkms system in order to
have it updated more often without compiling the entire kernel.

I have a MSI Wind U180 with Atom N2600. Oneiric works, but in vesa mode
and 800x600 resolution. No way to get 1024x600.

Precise live cd boots up, but screen goes black and nothing works to
get a console (Ctrl-Alt-F1). The system isn't freezed because Ctrl-Alt-
Supr or Power Button shuts down the machine but there is no way to get a
console.

rebuilt the devhelp index file from chm file distributed in the

These files have to be copied into

made in /usr/share/gtk-doc/html/sdl pointing to

[Bug 486576] [NEW] GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in libc.so.6 with link time reference

2009-11-22 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

After clean install of Karmic and running apt-get update and apt-get upgrade,
the system is no longer usable.
The upgrade ended up with error message
package name: relocation error: /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0: symbol __alert_mst,
version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
This broke my whole system - the Xserver is not working after reboot, everytime
I try to run apt-get upgrade now I receive an error from dpkg with request to
run dokg --configure -a which ends up with the same error message.
I re-installed twice with the same results - before upgrade the system works, I
can install packages and so on, after upgrade the system is no longer usable.

One noteworthy situation on my system at least is that I am using
likewise-open to join an active directory domain. So this means that

We can close this thread.
It is not a defect in alsa or anything else.
The main problem is the power-saving option in the intel hda module.
The sufficient fix is to modify the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
containing something like
options snd-hda-intel power_save=X
Just remove the whole power_save=X option and that's it.
Restart is required than.

[Bug 417302] [NEW] [keramic] cracking sounds before and after sound playback

2009-08-22 Thread Sancho
Public bug reported:

I have an Intel audio on my HP laptop.
When playing any sound (e.g. warning sounds from command line, etc.) the output
I hear is a loud crack in speakers and than the sound. The speakers do the
crack sound even when the headphones are connected, just the sound is played
back in the headphones only.
It seems like something with power saving - windows is performing simmiliar
behaviour. But I still have an installation of Intrepid and there is no such
thing - the playback is smooth, no cracking, nothing. The cracking sound does
not appear when playing two sounds with minimal time difference (e.g. 10
seconds), but with bigger difference (e.g. a minute), the cracking is back.
Also, now I noticed, that before the playback the mute icon (the diode on the
laptop body, not the indicator in main panel of Ubuntu) shines for a short
time, than turns off again. Maybe that's the reason of the cracking sound, but
as I said, such behaviour did not exists in Intrepid.

[Bug 222068] Re: nautilus trash does not show file origin or deletion date

2009-08-07 Thread Sancho Panza
The duplicate of tag was removed since none of the other related bugs
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/150112,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/301552 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/228369) mention displaying the
file origin. Either rephrase this or the other bugs to include both
deletion date and file origin or keep them as separate bugs.

Cheers!

[Bug 301552] Re: in trash: show delete-date

2009-08-06 Thread Sancho Panza
Thanks for the prompt response Pedro. It would help if you clarify my next
logical question:
How is one supposed to use the Trash feature in ubuntu? Is it currently meant
only for the purpose of
immediate (NOT short/long term) retrieval of deleted files? Because I cannot
currently empty
the trash without loosing both recent and really old files, when I can only
afford to delete the really old files.
But I may not be using the Trash feature in the way it is intended and would
really like someone
to tell me how to use it the way it exists currently.

Cheers!

[Bug 301552] Re: in trash: show delete-date

2009-08-04 Thread Sancho Panza
A similar bug has been fixed in KDE/Kubuntu and is discussed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/228369

Using all the links to code above and the Kubuntu bugfix, it doesnt seem like
fixing this bug in Ubuntu/Nautilus
should take too long for a programmer (unfortunately I'm not, so maybe I'm
wrong). This bug is really a nuisance
for people who need to empty trash often without having to delete the recently
trashed files.
Is this still a non-trivial fix? Is it still not qualified to be a papercut?

[Bug 256876] Re: MathType formulas messed up and not converted in Open Office

2009-07-21 Thread Sancho Panza
There doesnt seem to be anything going on in the upstream bug report. Is this
going to ever get fixed?

As has been mentioned before, many users, esp. in the academic, research,
university
environment do use a lot of equations and unless this bug is fixed, a valuable
user base will be lost or never captured.

[Bug 329424] Re: [Regression] Thinkpad T61 card reader no longer works

2009-07-06 Thread Sancho
I have a simmiliar problem.
Having 8GB microSDHC card from Nokia phone. The card works fine with 2
different phones.
When I plug it to the adapter for SD and into my reader, the system detects it:
[ 2554.266044] scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access HP USB20 HS-COMBO 4.82
PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
[ 2554.416642] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] 15954944 512-byte hardware sectors (8169 MB)

[ 2554.421608] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 23 00 00 00

[ 2554.440867] sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0

But, the fdisk results for this card are dissapointing:
Disk /dev/sdb: 8168 MB, 8168931328 bytes
252 heads, 62 sectors/track, 1021 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 15624 * 512 = 7999488 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

That's it - no partition, no data. Simple reboot to windows and voila - the
content is there. Using 2GB card in the same reader with the same adaptor works
also in 8.10.
The used kernel version is 2.6.27-14-generic.

[Bug 200127] Re: ubuntu incorrectly believes I enjoy staring at progress bars

2009-06-19 Thread Sancho Panza
Based on some of the comments, looks like some people might be quite interested
in what the updater is
doing, especially people who'd like to disconnect the network as soon as the
downloads are done, or if you'd
like to restart any of the programs.

I propose this: Add check box(es) in the update manager window that allow user
to
(1) specify whether the update manager minimizes to notif area and does its
thing quitely and
(2) also specify whether it should automatically close when all updates are
successfully installed.

The update manager already uses the notif area to inform the user about updates
so I'm hoping
that making the above changes should only involve minimal coding.
