[Bug 953342] Re: Add support for Qt Designer UI files
Shouldn't the result of getXMLstring be passed to entity_decode first? Something along the attached patch. Perhaps I'm not doing this as was planned (basically I'm running a regex-replace on the generate ui_XXX.h files to replace QApplication::translate calls with gettext ones, see [1]), but without entity_decode, the msgids of strings containing html markup does not match what is actually in the ui_XXX.h files, plus having all html-escaped characters in the po files is somewhat unplesant for translators. [Bug 686592] [NEW] Tooltips/menus often not visibile until mouse moved over where they should appear
Public bug reported: It happens quite often that tooltips / menus are not displayed until the cursor is moved over the area where they should appear. Following observations: - This does not appear to be a bug in a specific driver, can reproduce it with xorg-intel, xorg-ati and fglrx - This does not appear to be a bug in either compiz, nor mesa: under gnome, it is most easily reproducable with compiz enabled, but for instance on KDE the problem is easier to reproduce without any compositing manager running at all. - This is a regression compared to xorg-1.8 (or generally ubuntu 10.04). Re: [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org
Actually since the issue has been reported to the nvidia devs only about a month ago I'd say they have been really quick. Anyhow, for lucid users which don't want to fiddle around too much it may be more convenient to look if the updated driver appears in the proprietary-video-improvements PPA (https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+archive/proprietary-video-improvements) some time soon instead of installing manually (though I have no idea if and when it will appear). The problem is fixed as far as all open drivers are concerned. The issue with the binary driver remains and will probably remain as long as no- one with hardware that is affected cares to report the issue to the respective places (i.e. nvnews for nvidia, virtualbox bug tracker for virtualbox, and http://ati.cchtml.com/ for ATI cards). -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 347444] Re: OSD hangs up applications leading to them greying out
Just something I noticed trying to find the cause of the issue: some applications appear to send the icon of the notification in binary form to the dbus channel, for example emesene. The array containing the icon-data can often contain about 10'000 entries, it could be that applications listening to the dbus-channel hang because they take a while to interpret all the data or deadlock in some way? I cannot reproduce the issue manually sending notifications through notify-send, but on the other hand in this way the icon data does not appear to get sent via dbus. Attached is an example from dbus-monitor, which shows all messages sent on dbus by a simple user sent a message notification from emesene. -- OSD hangs up applications leading to them greying out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347444 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
Look: software evolves, and sometimes API breaks and things like that are necessary. While you may be unhappy about the situation, there is indeed nothing the open community can do if the developers behind the closed source drivers do not want to react on the issue. That is, if they really do not want to, maybe the issue has simply not been brought to their attention. So, please, if you care about this issue being fixed as we all do here, why do you not take the step and try to obtain at least some sort of feedback from their developers by posting the problem there - i.e. for the nvidia driver to start with? I'd to it myself but I have no nvidia card atm to provide specific information if they require it, and really, it is not such a big deal to send them a few words. Re: [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
May I point out that the last person actually stating that it had the problem with intel graphics was back in september 2009, in comment 144? Since then, the issue has only been confirmed on binary drivers (except lunix which still needs to verify), while there are several reports of things working fine with open drivers. So would people willing to complain please actually try out the newest packages with the newest open source drivers and report if they actually still _do_ have the issue? On 04/19/2010 09:25 PM, Dan Burke wrote: Comment #141 confirmed this is a bug with Intel drivers. So this is not limited to binary blobs. And the reason there are so many comments on this bug is because developers have ignored this bug and instead left the community to fend for itself and come up with half baked (if well intentioned) fixes which do not address the underlying regression from 8.10. Please do not mark this bug as fixed until someone confirms it is fixed. Just because an updated version of xorg is in Lucid doesn't mean this bug is fixed. in fact, there are several reports of the contrary. -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)
First of all do a sudo apt-get autoremove to remove all those packages. A side of that, you appear to have some residuals from the xorg-driver-fglrx package which no longer exists. Try to sudo apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx. If that does not work, your package database may be messed up from some previous attempts. You can either manually remove the files / edit the package database at your own risk or simply install a clean beta 2. Anyhow this issue is specific to your installation and not a general issue. [Bug 554193] Re: Use GTK style by default for KDE applications run under GNOME
This does not apply to qt4-config, but to systemsettings in KDE, hence I don't think that this is a dupplicate. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 338378 Use GTK+ theme by default in Qt under GNOME -- Use GTK style by default for KDE applications run under GNOME https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 554193] Re: Use GTK style by default for KDE applications run under GNOME
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 338378 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338378 But as far as I see, generic qt4 applications already use gtk+ by default (i.e. unetbootin, skype, mathematica, google earth - although sometimes one has to tweak these applications to use up-to-date system qt libraries for styling to work, but this is not something the distribution can control). What concerns KDE applications on the other hand is that they only look at the kde settings in .kde for information on how they should display, and I guess it would be quite a pain to make every KDE application fallback to the default qt options if they somehow figure out they do not run under a KDE desktop. So as far as I understand the mechanism for applications built for the K desktop the way to go would be to adapt the config files. -- Use GTK style by default for KDE applications run under GNOME https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kcm-gtk in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 554193] [NEW] Use GTK style by default for KDE applications run under GNOME
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: systemsettings In KDE4, in systemsettings-appearance one can choose GTK as appearance style for widgets and controls. By doing this plus setting the correct colors / icon theme, one can achieve a near to perfect visual integration of KDE applications into GNOME. This could be automized by automatically generating the config files in .kde/config based on the user's settings. Furthermore one could also automatically sync bookmarks in the open/save dialogs. As for the implementation, a background service monitoring any changes to GTK style/appearance would be needed which would update the config files automatically (what is the best way to monitor changes? Such events do not appear to be sent on dbus). The service should be able to revert to the default settings, either when disabled by the user or when the user has both kde and gnome installed and logs into KDE. If this idea is something new and is big enough to become a blueprint, I'll setup a wiki page describing my idea in detail and proceed with the blueprint. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Sandro Mani (sandromani) Status: New ** Changed in: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Sandro Mani (sandromani) -- Use GTK style by default for KDE applications run under GNOME https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
wild.ideas: That being the case, perhaps someone ought to prove it out by installing the Nvidia drivers from the 8.04 era into a fresh install of 9.10 and demonstrating that binary nvidia + compiz + xdamage enabled = no problem. Or has this been done already? That cannot be done since those drivers do not support the current kernel / xserver. One reason drivers get updated is exactely to provide support for these newer software pieces. Has anyone ever managed to get a statement from a nvidia employee at nvnews concerning this issue? -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
The remote desktop solution in Ubuntu uses the VNC backend which can't read from hardware accelerated display That's hardly true, testing on a few xserver 7.5 machines (running fedora 12 but that should not make any difference) * intel + compiz + xdamage enabled = no problem * open source radeonhd + compiz + xdamage enabled = no problem * binary nvidia + compiz + xdamage enabled = screen does not refresh * binary nvidia + compiz + xdamage disabled = no problem Hence it really looks like only the binary drivers (at least nvidia, haven't tested fglrx) are affected. And when using binary drivers, disabling xdamage in gconf: /desktop/gnome/remote_access/disable_xdamage should suffice (and this imo whould be something that could be done automatically when a user installs a binary driver through the repos). For people experiencing this issue with open source drivers on a clean lucid install / live cd, they might want to give the fedora 12 / 13 live cds a try, just in case it were indeed a problem affecting only ubuntu.

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Tralalalala: 1. I don't know if you ever coded or worked on a larger project, but I can guarantee you that no matter how good the documentation of a program is you still first have to read through the whole code if it wasn't you writing it. A program consists of the written part which everyone can see and more importantly of the logic behind it that the programmer developed in his mind, it is very hard that any text can give you complete insight of what was going on inside the programmer's head when he was writing the program. 2. I don't give a fuck about that bugs. Fix it yourself.: first of all keep in mind that many proprietary companies really don't give a damn about bugs reported by normal users since they are not worth it economically. They often do not even provide you (as a normal user) with any insight about what issues are known with their software, what's the status and so on. Here you will find plenty of examples which show that developers listen to you no matter who you are. And again, developers are not your slaves. As a developer there is always a certain amount of passion involved in creating a program, hence it is quite unlikely that they will remain indifferent to a major flaw, but you must also respect the fact that they make choices what is for them higher priority that may be different than what you might want. And in this particular case it is not even clear if it is X that should be fixed, since the specification is actually clear and it's the programs that in some cases don't implement it. And keep in mind, it is very likely much easier to fix the bad behaving applications than to radically change a core part of the xserver, possibly causing other regressions that don't make you any happier. 3. Open-source software means that anyone actually has the possibility to contribute, which indeed DOES give you the possibility to improve something if you are not happy with the current situation. Again, it is highly unlikely that developers do not care, but since most of the work is done on a voluntary basis in their free time you should also respect their choices 4. Since you probably never donated anything to any project, while you are free to point out bugs, it is quite rude at best to call developers non-caring whatevers and such. -- MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Geees will people stop complaining for something they got for FREE? It is like if you got a present and start insulting the person which gave it to you because it does not work the way you want. It is certainly okay to point out things that have some design flaws, but please just try to keep in mind that 1) If there were such a trivial fix, it would already have been fixed 2) You cannot simply swap out something buried so deeply into the window manager without risking considerable breakage 3) The person(s) who originally implemented the clipboard may very well not be working on Xorg anymore, hence someone would have to read through the whole unfamiliar code and understand it, just like we 4) Developers are not our slaves, and calling them stubborn and whatever surely won't motivate them to give up more of their free time for people insulting them If we are so determined to see this issue fixed, why not just create a wiki page somewhere and work together to - Identify what is wrong with the current specification - Find out how it works on mac and windows, and discuss what the correct specification should look like - Find out how the current clipboard mechanism is integrated with the other components of the window manager and identify the critical parts which could cause breakage if altered - Work on a fix It is obvious that this is a lot of work, but so would it be for any developer willing to fix it, and the chances of success are considerably higher if the 52 people here would spend time researching instead of writing long, heated comments. -- MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Have you change or set some custom xorg parameters with previous attempts? Otherwise it can very well be that the build of the driver you got is indeed broken, which is not that unlikely to happen with daily builds. You can wait a few days for the next few builds to see if they fix the issue, but I'd really suggest that if you want to stick with ubuntu and have wine working to give lucid a try (alpha 2 is scheduled to be released tomorrow), which is likely to be considerably more stable than daily builds even if in alpha stage. [Bug 406865] Re: [GM45] 3D applications fail to run in WINE
Well concerning at least 9.04, it was in the middle of the EXA - UXA transition with new stuff coming in like KMS and GEM, therefore things were not really stable back then (and as far as I recall also fedora had plenty of problems at that stage). If you want to stick with ubuntu you'll need to add a PPA repository containing newer packages, especially the xserver video drivers and mesa, or take a look at lucid. For the thread: glxgears is not a benchmark, cfr. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance Lastly, concerning this specific issue video size should not make too much of a difference, I'm actually not sure how wine uses this value, if only to report a size to applications asking for it or if it actually really matters internally. -- [GM45] 3D applications fail to run in WINE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406865 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 406865] Re: [GM45] 3D applications fail to run in WINE
Hi, it is not that fedora has figured out something that ubuntu has not, it is just that it is more a bleeding edge distribution than ubuntu is, which means that you often get upstream fixes faster than in ubuntu, but also that you might have to deal with upstream regressions in a more unplesant way because packages may get pushed to their repos with less testing. If you want bleeding edge with ubuntu, you can use a mainline ppa kernel and the X crack pushers repo and then you should also have the leatest and greatest of features and misfeatures, but keep in mind that those packages aren't tested at all against stability or even usability. But if you want newer packages with less effort and risk, you may also want to give fedora a try. -- [GM45] 3D applications fail to run in WINE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406865 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tested with a live cd of karmic release and still have this issue. [Bug 455363] [NEW] Touchpad lag when pressing keyboard shortcuts / hotkeys
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Using up-to-date karmic as of 19.10.09, hardware is a Lenovo T400. Problem: when pressing certain keyboard shortcuts / hotkeys, the mouse cursor hangs for about one second before resuming normal motion. I attached a video showing the problem when pressing the volume up / down hotkeys (the finger is always in motion on the touchpad), but the same happens for example when pressing ctrl+c in gedit. [Bug 445303] Re: update-manager stucked on polkit password dialog
Hello, those are indeed all the messages that were printed out to the console. Concerning the frequency of the bug, I notice three variants: 1. Everything works as expected (maybe 1/4 of the cases) 2. The authentication dialog gets stuck without the password field, but clicking on X makes the process continue normally (i.e. the feedback window for download and installation displays and get's accordingly updated) - about 1/2 of the cases 3. The authentication dialog gets stuck, after pressing X the feedback window shows waiting for other tasks and after a while a message reporting it seems that the daemon died appears, allthough in background the updates are actually installed, see #445893 - about 1/4 of the cases I cannot think of anything particular in my setup, it's all stock configuration...
