[Bug 1513926] [NEW] package libreoffice-writer 1:4.2.8-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/lib/libreoffice/program/libmswordlo.so' to '/usr/lib/libreoffice/progra

2015-11-06 Thread SegundoBob
Public bug reported:

The crash and reboot occurred on the first reboot after installing a
libreoffice-writer update. There was a problem with the update. When
the update manager failed to install the update, the advice said disable
all second party repositories. I did this. The update still failed.
So i did sudo apt-get install -f. This worked.

Anyway on the first reboot, as soon as I entered my log in password by
hitting carriage return, the system rebooted.

[Bug 916560] Re: Under Linux created a branch on an ntfs partition all work files have current date time

2012-01-20 Thread SegundoBob
Thanks, Martin. Your comments prompted me to look for bzr x-bit and I
found a superseding bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bzr/+bug/248333

Jelmer Vernooij (jelmer) wrote on 2011-12-16 (comment 3 on bug 248333)
proposing what sounds like a good solution to me.

I also found the x-bit plugin for Bazaar Windows only. From the
documentation, I can't deduce what it does or whether or not it would
help me.

I'll probably just wait for the fix even though it probably has very,
very low priority.

2012-01-17 Thread SegundoBob

What did you want to have happen?

The problem is, that bzr explorer says that every single work file on
the ntfs partition differs from the repository---the only difference
being the date and time for the file.

When I do this on a Linux type partition such as ext4, the work files
have the date and time noted in the repository for each file, and bzr
explorer says my work tree matches the repository tip revision.

[Bug 916367] [NEW] Problem: When wheezy enabled, update-manager says partial update of over 1, 100 packages

2012-01-13 Thread SegundoBob
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10
Whenever I run update-manager with the wheezy repository
(http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/) enabled, the update-manager warns Not all
updates can be installed and it offers partial upgrade or close. It
selects over 1,000 updates to be downloaded.

Whenever I run update-manager with the wheezy repository disabled, the
update-manager does not issue any warnings, and finds zero or only a few
updates.

This may not be a bug. You may think this behavior is described in the
documentation. None the less it mystified me and caused me a great deal
of trouble. I hope this report saves others some trouble.

I enabled wheezy in order to get the latest version of recutils. Using
Synaptic to install the recutils upgrade worked fine. The recutils
upgrade works fine. I just have to remember to disable wheezy before
running update-manager.

[Bug 802752] [NEW] Evince creates a PDF with non-standard format

[Bug 802752] Re: Evince creates a PDF with non-standard format

2011-06-27 Thread SegundoBob
Partial Work Around:

Use Evince to fill in the PDF form.
Open the filled-in form using flpsed (version 0.5.2). Use the File -- Export
PDF (or Ctrl-x) command to write a PDF.
The PDF created by flpsed contains the form data and the data entered to fill
in the form--but this new PDF is no longer a form. That is, it does not allow
more data to be entered into the form. But the PDF created by flpsed can be
read by Adobe Reader (versoin 10.1.0) and Foxit Reader (version 5.0.1.0523).

[Bug 800921] [NEW] Data saved to a fuseblk (Windows NTFS) file system is silently lost

2011-06-22 Thread SegundoBob
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Studio 11.04 (natty)
Document Viewer 2.32.0

I spent almost an hour filling out a PDF form from a fuseblk (Windows
NTFS) file system. Saving back onto the fuseblk (Windows NTFS) file
system seemed to work because no error was reported and Nautilus showed
that the saved file was bigger than the blank file. But when I exited
Document Viewer no error was reported and the size of the saved file
reverted to the size of the blank file and all my data was lost.

Work Around:

I coped the PDF to ext4 (Unix) file system. I entered data into a form,
saved the file, and exited Document Viewer. The save worked. Opening
the saved file shows the data I entered in the previous session.

for other reasons? Sometimes the pop-up never terminates.

To make matters even worse, if the operator terminates the Restoring
this might take some time ... pop-up window, this seems to abort the
restore with no error message and no indication that the restore is left
incomplete.

I filed Question #120658 about this problem. actionparsnip responded
that I should file this bug. So now I have.

I am using Ubuntu Studio 10.04.

[Bug 554079] Re: Lucid boot failed to complete after fsck

2010-05-19 Thread SegundoBob
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 554737 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554737

When I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 (Lucid), fsck began taking too long to
complete. I once let it run for two hours before stopping it at 91%
complete.

As Neil wrote on 2010-05-15. Updating mountall eliminated these
problems for me.

Using Synaptic I marked mountall for upgrade. This updated mountall
from version 2.14 to version 2.15.

Now my fsck takes about five minutes, the same time it took under Ubuntu
9.04.

[Bug 559881] Re: libnss3-1d 3.12.6-0ubuntu0.9.10.1 breaks ssl/fips support in firefox

2010-04-10 Thread SegundoBob
This bug prevents me from using Thunderbird. This bug does not affect
my use of Firefox.

I tried to follow Chris Coulson's instructions for testing the fix. If
I succeeded in obtaining the fix, it does not work for me.

My problems with Chris Coulson's instructions:

My sudo apt-get update seemed to work, but it ended with a warning:

Fetched 80.9kB in 2min 0s (671B/s)
Reading package lists... Done
W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net karmic Release: The following signatures
couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY
A6DCF7707EBC211F
b...@back2:~$

I do not know what Coulson meant by ...and then update the nss version to
3.12.6-0ubuntu0.9.10.2
But after the sudo apt-get update, Synaptic showed three libnss modules as
upgradable and the available versions of these
modules were all 3.12.6-0ubuntu0.9.10.2, so I used Synaptic to upgrade them.

But Thunderbird still did not work. Logging out and back in did not
help. Rebooting did not help.

Synaptic shows that my libnss modules are now all at
3.12.6-0ubuntu0.9.10.2.

[Bug 559881] Re: libnss3-1d 3.12.6-0ubuntu0.9.10.1 breaks ssl/fips support in firefox

2010-04-10 Thread SegundoBob
Jamie,

At your suggestion, I just used Synaptic to remove libnss3-0d (libcamel1.2-10
will be removed, libnss3-0d will be removed).
This eliminated all my bug symptoms.

So far as I know, I do not use FIPS. I did not ever and I do not have
libnss3-dev installed.

These were my bug symptoms, alert messages that were displayed after I
invoked Thunderbird and before Thunderbird displayed anything:

Alert
Could not initialize the browser's security component. The most likely cause
is problems with files in your browser's profile directory. Please check that
this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or
close to full. It is recommended hat you exit the browser and fix the problem.
If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser
behavior when accessing security features.

[Bug 534141] [NEW] package python-numpy (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-03-07 Thread SegundoBob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-numpy

Description:Ubuntu 9.10

python-numpy:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1:1.3.0-3
  Version table:

I expected Synaptic to successfully install python-numpy. But instead, it
reported and exit status 1 when it tried to configure the package after
installation.

Complications: I had previously installed and uninstalled python-numpy. Then

So python-numarray was installed at the time that the installation of
python-numpy failed.
Now I had uninstalled both python-numarray and python-numpy.
