[Bug 978678] Re: Starcraft II crashes before login in 12.04 (regression from 11.10)

Does executing echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope in a
terminal before starting Stacraft 2 help?
If so it seems to be the ptrace stuff that somehow reappeared in Ubuntu 12.04.

[Bug 144480] Re: acpi-support for Acer Travelmate C200

2008-11-02 Thread Shadows_Friend
Thanks for your question and sorry for the long delay. Yes, the issues
are still reproducible with 8.10. But it isn't that bad because
everything works as it is supposed to. The lack of acpi-support
concerning mentioned situations isn't really a big deal for me.
Therefore I think this bug can be closed if nobody else objects to this.

[Bug 188787] Re: no wacom tablet driver

2008-02-14 Thread Shadows_Friend
The problem results from an incompatibility between Xorg 7.3 and the
driver that is supplied by the Ubuntu package. The newest development
version (0.7.9-7 at the moment) contains a temporary workaround for Xorg
7.3.

Therefore a workaround for the bug is: Download the most recent
development sources from the Linux Wacom Project (
http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/ ), compile and install them.

However the workaround provided by the sources is not that perfect. The
lines I draw in Xournal are very ugly. I managed to reolve this issue by
deactivating Use XInput in the Options tab.

2007-10-01 Thread Shadows_Friend
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 123435 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123435

The bug is still there. I have the German and the English language
installed. When I switch from German to English the folders stay german.
For example the documents folder is still called Dokumente. I first
tried to change the language via the Language Support tool than I
tried to make en_US.UTF-8 the default language via GDM. The output of
locale ist correct, everything is on en_US.UTF-8 as it should, but the
folders stay untouched. The ~/.config/user-dirs.locale stays on de_DE.
When I manually adjust it to en_US and run xdg-user-dirs-(gtk)-update
afterwards nothing happens. The ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs doesn't seem to
change, too.

However sometimes (I can't determine what exactly triggers it) a
graphical frontend (Proppopped up and asked me if I wanted to adjust the
user folders to the correct language. But I only saw that once or twice
and I really don't know what triggered it. I assume that was meant to be
the right way - Somebody switches his language and then is asked if he
wants the user folders to be localized, too.

[Bug 145887] Re: Gutsy Beta: Tablet Notebook's Stylus Not Working

2007-09-30 Thread Shadows_Friend
I can confirm this on an Acer Travelmate C200. The stylus worked very
well out-of-the box on Feisty and the Gutsy Tribes (LiveCDs and
installed systems). But with the new Gutsy Beta it neither works with
the LiveCD nor with the installed system. The reason are the following
commented lines in xorg.conf:

Section ServerLayout
Identifier Default Layout
  screen Default Screen
Inputdevice Generic Keyboard
Inputdevice Configured Mouse

# Uncomment if you have a wacom tablet
# InputDevice stylusSendCoreEvents
# InputDevice cursorSendCoreEvents
# InputDevice eraserSendCoreEvents
Inputdevice Synaptics Touchpad
EndSection

When you uncomment them it works again.
I think if a wacom device is recognized during installation, it should be
automatically adjusted so that it works out-of-the-box again, as it did before.

[Bug 144480] acpi-support for Acer Travelmate C200

2007-09-24 Thread Shadows_Friend
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

The software acpi-support for my Acer Travelmate C202TMi is not very
good. For example I can't adjust the brightness settings with any
software. Only the fn+brightness up/down work because it seems they are
BIOS controlled. But for example the brightness-applet is not working.
Furthermore I haven't got the slider in gnome-power-manager which would
allow me to dim the brightness on battery power to a certain level. The
WLAN-switch turns off the WLAN radio (I assume it is BIOS controlled,
too) but the LED doesn't work. However the bluetooth-switch and LED
work.

The available acer_acpi module ( http://code.google.com/p/aceracpi/ )
doesn't support my notebook because of the missing WMAB method.

I am using an up-to-date Gutsy.

[Bug 116464] Re: Display brightness slider does not show up on Dell Latitude D810

2007-09-08 Thread Shadows_Friend
I think my problem is located in the fact that there I have no real
ACPI-support for my Acer-model. The brightness control via the hotkeys
seems to be done by the BIOS not by any ACPI-event. Even the available
acer-acpi module doesn't support my Travelmate C200 series notebook. I
hardly have access to ACPI-functions via the proc filesystem. I only get
following answers if i try to access any of the ACPI-stuff:

#cat ./acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness
not supported

So it can be concluded that it is an issue of ACPI-support. Maybe the
other people affected can confirm this?

[Bug 116464] Re: Display brightness slider does not show up on Dell Latitude D810

2007-08-17 Thread Shadows_Friend
I have exactly the same issue on my Acer Travelmate C202TMi. I can
control the brightness via the hotkeys. But neither the slider in the
gnome-power-manager (In fact the slider is not there) nor the brightness
applet work. I'm running on the latest Gutsy with all available updates.

[Bug 127335] backlight on Lenovo 3000 C200 can't be set to maximum again

2007-07-21 Thread Shadows_Friend
Public bug reported:

I've got a very strange problem on a Lenovo 3000 C200 notebook. When I
first started Ubuntu after the installation the backlight of the screen
is normal as it was on the preinstalled Windows. But after I decreased
the Brightness via the fn + brightness dimming keys, it can't be set to
maximum again. I assume there are five different brightness levels.
Let's call the normal one 5. Then I decrease to 4. Afterwards I can't
increase to 5 again. But I can decrease to 3. Afterwards I can't
increase to 4 oder 5 again. But I can switch between 1, 2 and 3 without
problems. I'm just not able to get to 4 or 5 again. When I try to adjust
the brightness before Ubuntu boots, for example in the grub menu, I can
go to 5 again. But after Ubuntu takes the control it falls back to level
3.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 103006] Re: Feisty: Boot takes very long time after last upgrade

2007-04-10 Thread Shadows_Friend
I found a temporary solution to the bug. The problem seems to be related
to a dhcp issue. After I restarted the network devices manually I
recognized that the start script waits for a dhcp answer. And it does
this very long. If you haven't got a static configuration for your
devices you can fix the bug temporarily by commenting out all the
devices execpt the loopback device, which is essential, in the
/etc/network/interfaces . My file:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

#auto eth0
#iface eth0 inet dhcp

#auto eth1
#iface eth1 inet dhcp

#auto eth2
#iface eth2 inet dhcp

#auto ath0
#iface ath0 inet dhcp

#auto wlan0
#iface wlan0 inet dhcp

For me this resolves the problem. But this is just a temporary solution
because I don't expect all the future Feisty users with this issue to
read this bug report or to be willing to find a solution by
themselves...

[Bug 99122] Re: Restricted-Manager installs nvidia drivers for wrong kernel

2007-04-04 Thread Shadows_Friend
When I tried to install the nvidia-glx driver via the restricted-manager
it wanted to install the linux-restricted-modules for the 386 kernel as
dependency. But this is unnecessary because the generic restricted
modules were already installed. And because the 386 restricted modules
have the 386 kernel as dependency. But this is maybe rather a dependency
problem than a r-m problem?!

[Bug 103006] Re: Feisty: Boot takes very long time after last upgrade

2007-04-04 Thread Shadows_Friend
After I had followed the boot progress in the console I just recognized
that the boot stop takes place while Configuring Network Devices.
Maybe that's the root of the problem?!

This problem also appears on my Acer Travelmate C200 Notebook with a
freshly installed Feisty Beta (The CD version with no updates. As soon
as I updated everything the restricted-manger fails to detect my Geforce

[Bug 62440] Re: Laptop Battery charging time is wrong

2007-04-03 Thread Shadows_Friend
I just had a closer look on it and I recognized that if the charging
time was in hours rather than in minutes it would be correct. You can
see this very good when you compare the output of acpi for a while with
the curve the gnome-power-manager shows in the remaining time section.
