[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while
I know the last comment on this ticket was more than 3 years ago, but I thought I would add a note that this *still* seems to apply to some devices. I'm running the 3.14 kernel, and hooked up my old Lacie USB 500 GB hard disk. I got identical behavior to that described in this bug report: things would work fine for a while, then disconnect. Setting /sys/block/sdX/device/max_sectors to 128 (from the default of 240) solves the problem. I was able to run a full badblocks and badblocks -n across the device without problem. I'm going to add the udev rule to the computers where I plan on using the disk, so this is a minor issue for me, but I figured I'd just make a note that it is still an issue for folks with certain crappy old hardware. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/61235 Title: USB mass storage stops working after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/61235/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 524281] Re: Tens of wakes per second in [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled
Brian, the kernel from your PPA does indeed seem to help a little bit. I was getting an average of something like 140 wakes per second and now the average is around 100. My computer still seems to spend a lot of time doing housekeeping... for example a recent powertop output: 31,2% ( 78,4) [extra timer interrupt] 21,1% ( 53,0) [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick 18,5% ( 46,4) [iwlagn] interrupt 9,3% ( 23,5) firefox-bin 4,0% ( 10,0) [kernel core] r600_audio_update_hdmi (r600_audio_update_hdmi) 4,0% ( 10,0) ubuntuone-syncd 3,7% ( 9,4) [kernel core] hrtimer_start (tick_sched_timer) 70 wakeups doing something I care about (wireless and Firefox) and 160 doing... other stuff. Anyway thanks for the kernel, at least it's something until a fix gets backported officially! [Bug 391628] Re: Everything gets swapped out after resume from suspend using fglrx drivers
I've gone back to open source drivers. Note that the radeonhd drivers worked *very* poorly with Lucid. This turns out to be a problem mostly because I installed them manually previously. I removed them, rebooted, and now everything looks pretty and updates quickly. I know Canonical can't control closed source drivers, but at least their hardware drivers thingy could have some sort of black list of known back mixes, right? -- Everything gets swapped out after resume from suspend using fglrx drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391628 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 391628] Re: Everything gets swapped out after resume from suspend using fglrx drivers
I was premature in declaring this fixed. After a few days, the massive swap behavior after resume has started again. I don't see anything in dmesg that is obviously triggering this. This bug seems to be fixed for me. I am *not* seeing this problem in Lucid, using whatever fglrx drivers are installed via the Hardware Drivers thingy. [Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password
I'm was this issue with one server I use. I fixed this by asking for the supported server options. It then gave me either PASSWORD or GSSAPI. I changed to GSSAPI, then restarted. This failed completely. (I suspect a half-configured setup on the server side - they probably tried to get GSSAPI set up but it never really worked and they left it marked as a supported option.) [Bug 391628] Re: Everything gets swapped out after resume from suspend using fglrx drivers
Okay, I found a solution that seems to work for me. (I will report back here if it fails, but so far so good.) An updated version of the open source drivers for the card in my laptop works pretty good. There are no weird artifacts, the fan turns off when it is not cooling, and, well, it seems to Just Work. (I am only looking at 2D stuff, I installed Extreme Tux Racer to see how the 3D is and got something like 4 frames per second - it's basically a slideshow.) I used the instructions here: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Jaunty_Installation_Guide#Installing_Open_Source_Edge_Drivers Using the PPA for Tormod Volden did seem to install a bunch of other gorp. I don't know if this is good or bad, so it may be worth it to try to install only the xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd package. I noticed that the package for Karmic is actually one version later, so maybe the best thing is to try that: http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd -- Everything gets swapped out after resume from suspend using fglrx drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391628 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Some of the problems may be fixed in the 2.6.29 kernel (which is not in Intrepid or Jaunty): http://www.h-online.com/open/Steady-growth-What-s-new-in- Linux-2-6-29--/features/112914/4 The documentation does list the USB identifier for the the QuickCam I have here at least: http://tinyurl.com/dd9cgu -- Ubuntu doesn't support some logitech and labtec webcams https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293176 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm that the crash for me is also a segfault in libatk- bridge.so (checked this with gdb). Evolution is *extremely* flaky for me in Intrepid. I experience the same bug. I can work around it by starting evolution from a terminal. Probably starting it with --component calendar would work too, if you wanted to use a shortcut from the GUI. -- evolution crashes when change to calendar view https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289143] Re: Cheese freezes - doesn't show output
Yes, this might be related. I can also set the resolution to 320x240 and it works fine. If I try to set the resolution to the resolution I used in Hardy 8.04 (720x480) then the application fails. This is similar to bug #290506. -- Cheese freezes - doesn't show output https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 267089] Re: 2.6.27-2 kernel on intrepid: disk is mounted in RO after several hours
I'm seeing the DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 4224 bytes at device :0b:00.0 message too, and have also reverted to the ath_pci (madwifi) driver. This is on a MacBook Pro version 3.1 without any peripherals attached. [Bug 289143] Re: Cheese freezes - doesn't show output
I have almost exactly the same symptoms on my laptop. I have a MacBook Pro 3.1, and the iSight camera worked fine with Hardy 8.04 but not with Intrepid 8.10.
